  • The purpose of this study is to classify debris flow hazard zones in urbanized areas using multivariate statistical analyses and to suggest customized management strategies to each areal type. Using field survey data set in Seoul, 49 sample debris hazard zones are selected. Clustering and discriminant analyses show that debris flow hazard zones are classified into two types. Surrounding land use and land slope are major factors influencing to the categorization. The results suggest that, by considering the characteristics of each areal type, more customized management strategies for debris flow hazard are necessary. Particularly, in addition to traditional structural measures, non-structural measures including land use and development control for downstream built-up areas should be emphasized in urbanized areas to mitigate human and property damages from debris flow hazard more fundamentally.

  • This study was carried out to classify the current forest cover types and to propose the successional trends in the natural forest of Mt. Deogyu. The vegetation data were collected by the point-centered quarter method. The forest cover types were classified by various multivariate statistical analysis methods such as cluster analysis, indicator species analysis and multiple discriminant analysis. This forests were classified into five forest types by the species composition of upper layer and topographic positions: Quercus mongolica forest in the ridge, Fraxinus mandushurica-F. rhynchophylla-Cornus controversa forest and F. mandushurica forest in the valley, the Q. serrata - Pinus densiflora - Q. mongolica forest and P. densiflora forest in the low-slope. As a result of the forest successional trends depending on ecological and environmental characteristics in each forest type, the current forest types were expected that the forest succession would be proceeded toward Q. mongolica forest, F. mandshurica forest, mixed mesophytic forest, and oak-Carpinus laxiflora forest.

  • In this paper, we propose the method to measure tensions of character motions, using LMA (Laban Movement Analysis). Using tension values, we tan take advantage of them as a standard for synchronization of motion and BGM(Back Ground Music). In LMA, a motion is divided into 4 space-time factors which are called Efforts, and each Effort has two bases opposed to each other. We can analyze the motion by justifying which basis is stronger than the other in each Effort of motion. To measure quantitatively tension values, we propose some equations based on kinematics and dynamics. Then we can measure the tension value by the weighted sum of values calculated from those equations. Each weight can be determined by the optimization process which tries to minimize the difference between the calculated tension value and human's decision. The experimental result shows that the in creasing order of the motion tension value is similar to that of the tension score given by human.

  • RAPD analyses were performed to investigate genetic relationships and useful molecular maker for 3 species and their 17 regional populations of the Pueraria lobata and related taxa. The length of amplified DNA fragments ranged from 200 to, 2,800 bp. Two hundred and eight scorable polymorphic makers and three scorable monomorphic makers were found from the PCR reactions with 15 random oligo primers, and those were analyzed by Nei's genetic distance coefficient. Based on the UPGMA phenogram from RAPD analyses, two major groups (9 populations from Korea; 3 populations from foreign countries) were recognized. And it showed distinct genetic differences from related taxa. The RAPD results was very useful to define the samples by geographical distribution and to discuss the relationships among the populations and their related taxa of the Pueraria lobata.

  • The feature of the hotel business as a labor intensive industry and its heavy dependence on man power is relatively bigger than other industries. the important factors influencing the customer`s decision making are tangible facilities and intangible service qualities. however, the changes in economic situation are also seriously influencing them. So hotels are started to find other IT(information technology) systems. BSC which has been recognized as one of barometers to establish management performance is one of them. The purpose of this study was to develop KPI(key performance indicator) by using the BSC(Balanced Scorecard) for evaluating hotel management performance. This thesis presents customer performance, inner process performance, learning and growing performance as non-financial factors and tries to examine the cause and effect in the hotel industry. Hotels have to know nonfinancial performance which has positively relate to financial performance. To introduce BSC system is not to lead increasing income and bettermenting service quality, satisfacting customer needa for hotels, But to lead developing value enhancement to hotel enterprises and present process.

  • This study is to segment white matter, gray matter, and cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) on a brain MR image and to calculate the volume of each. First, after removing the background on a brain MR image, we segmented the whole region of a brain from a skull and a fat layer. Then, we calculated the partial volume of each component, which was present in scanning finite thickness, with the arithmetical analysis of gray value from the internal region of a brain showing the blurring effects on the basis of the MR image forming principle. Calculated partial volumes of white matter, gray matter and CSF were used to determine the threshold for the segmentation of each component on a brain MR image showing the blurring effects. Finally, the volumes of segmented white matter, gray matter, and CSF were calculated. The result of this study can be used as the objective diagnostic method to determine the degree of brain atrophy of patients who have neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and cerebral palsy.

  • Analyzed is the sensitivity of reactor transient behavior to various reactor parameters during the reactivity induced accidents (RIA) of the Kori Unit 1. Included in the analysis is a partial spectrum of RIAs with relatively fast transients such as uncontrolled rod cluster control assembly bank withdrawl from a subcritical or low power startup condition and rod ejection accidents. The analysis can be performed generally in three steps: calculation of an average core power change, hot spot heat transfer calculation and DNBR (departure from nucleate boiling ratio) calculation. The computer codes used for the analysis are either developed based on the codes relevent to it. These codes are evaluated to be highly reliable. An extensive sensitivity analysis is performed to study the effects of various reactor design and operating parameters on the reactor transient behavior during the accidents. The assumptions and initial conditions used for the RIA analysis in the Kori Unit 1 FSAR (Final Safety Analysis Report) are reexamined, and the corresponding analysis results are reassessed, based on the sensitivity analysis results, to be conservative and reliable.

  • This work represents results of analysis of tidal observations at twelve major ports(Inchon, Kunsan, Mokpo, Daeheuksando, Jeju, Yeosu, Jinhae, Busan, Pohang, Ulsan, Mugho, Sogcho) around Korean coast for the years up to 1979. The reduction of hourly tide gauge sea level records provided by Korean Hydrographic Office was performed in systematic manner resulting digitised hourly observed series, predicted series and residual series. As a first step the application of an extended harmonic method of analyzing the tidal observations leads to the identification of 42 new constituents including 60 orthodox Doodson's constituents at major ports. The sea level statistics including sea level frequency distribution are presented and the tidal emersion curves showing the percentage of time for which different levels are covered by water and exposed are also presented to provide useful design input for coastal development. This study has teen undertaken in association with the programme of sea level research at Korean Hydrographic Office and the programme of adjustment of first order levelling network at National Geographic Institute.

  • Astronomical positioning has been carried out from the past by using Sextant. The St. Hilaire method was mainly used by Nautical Almanac and Sight Reduction Tables For Marine Navigation. In modern times, it has been able to use the LOP(Line of Position) method smoothly by combining with IT technology. However, in comparison with the past method, the LOP method always shows two positions, True Position and False Position, which must be distinguished by the navigator. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed a method of using the azimuth to remove the false position generated by the LOP method. In particular, the theoretical considerations using azimuth are presented in various ways, and the validity of the theoretical considerations is confirmed. Simulations are presented to confirm that the theoretical basis of the thesis is valid.
