  • The stiffened panel is representative of a large portion of aircraft construction and therefore has much practical importance. In this paper, the influence of various shape parameters on the stress intensity factors and the fatigue crack growth in the panels with bonded composite stiffeners are studied experimentally. Results are presented as crack growth rates for various values of crack lengths, stiffness ratios, and stiffening Materials.

  • The transient analysis of partially supported laminated plates with rectangular holes under uniformly distributed transverse load is studied using finite element method. The first-order shear deformation theory and the variational energy method are employed in mathematical formulation. The effects on central deflection by plate thickness ratio, material modulus ratio, ply lamination geometry and boundary conditions are investigated Numerical results are presented and comparisons of the results by the present method with those given in the literature are made.

  • In this paper, the design of thick laminated composite plate subjected to thermal buckling load under uniform temperature distribution is presented. In the design procedures of composite laminated plates for maximum thermal buckling load. the finite element method based on shear deformed theory is used for the analysis or laminated plates. One-demensional search method is used to find optimal fiber orientation and, in the next step, optimal thickness is investigated. Design variables such as fiber orientation and ply thicknesses coefficient of plates are adopted. The optimal design for the symmetric or antisymmetric laminated plates consisted of 4 layers with maximum thermal buckling load is performed.

  • The use of high tensile steel plates is increasing in the fabrication of ship and offshore structures. In usual, plate element contributes to inplane stiffness against the action of inplane load. If the plate element has local corrosion, its load carrying capacity under inplane load is expected to be reduced. Until now, however, the research report concerned with this topic has not seen. In this study, a basic study which clarifies the influence of local corrosion on the ultimate collapse strength of plate element subjected to axial compression is carried out by using elasto-platic large deformation finite element analysis. In particular, influence of corrosive area, corrosive thickness and slenderness ratio of dented plate is investigated.

  • In this paper, the thickness of a multilayer PCB was predicted through an empirical formulation based on the physical properties of the prepreg used in multilayer PCB. Since the thickness of prepreg reduction when manufacturing a PCB due to the physical properties and copper foil residual rate, it is necessary to accurately predict the thickness of the PCB through the thickness empirical formulation. To determine the density of the prepreg, the mass and thickness of the prepreg were measured. To manufacture the CCL, the prepreg and copper foil were laminated using a hot press machine, and the thickness was measured using a microscope and micrometer. An 8-layerd PCB was designed with different circuit densities to measure the change in the thickness with the copper foil residual ratio, and the proposed empirical formulation was verified by comparing the measured thickness with the value obtained using the empirical formulation. As a result, the errors for the CCL and multilayer PCB were 2.56% and 4.48%, respectively, which demonstrated the reliability of the empirical formulation.

  • Laser welded blanks are finding increased usage in many industrial applications, which are made of different sheet thickness or different material strengths joined together. In this study the heat flow problem in laser welding of the different steel sheet thickness was solved by using a finite element method, and a series of experiments wers carried out to confirm the validity of the numerical method.

  • Applying elastic plate model, we estimated elastic thickness and rigidity of the lithosphere in southern part of the Korean Peninsula($332km{\times}332km$ area of which center is $36.5^{\circ}N$ in latitude and $127.5^{\circ}E$ in longitude) by analysing terrain data and gravity data measured up to 2002. We tried to exclude the East Sea in choosing the study area because it has different tectonic environment. The mean Moho depth was estimated to be 30 km by power spectrum analysis of gravity data in the study area, Assuming one layer crust and applying elastic plate model, the loads with wavelengths of greater than 300 km are locally compensated, loads with wavelengths in the range 80-300km are partially supported by the strength of the lithosphere, and loads with wavelengths of less than 80km are almost completely supported by lithospheric strength. Assuming crustal model and rigidity, we calculated predicted coherence and compared it with observed coherence. As a result, we wert able to estimate the effective elastic thickness to be of 15 km(corresponding flexural rigidity is $3.0{\times}10^{22}Nm$). This indicates that the crust of the study area is relatively weaker than other old and stable continental regions but is similar to continental margins or oceanic area. The low rigidity could be explained by many tectonic and thermal activities such as orogenic activities, magmatic intrusions, volcanic activities, foldings, faultings, etc.
