  • For new use development of carbonized board, we investigated the effect of carbonization temperature on the surface temperature of carbonized board manufactured from a plywood, particle board, MDF, and wood of Fraxinus rhynchophylla at different carbonization temperature ($400^{\circ}C{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$). The surface temperature of carbonized board precipitously increased until 12 minutes elapsed, after smoothly increased and thereafter which were stable after 20 minutes. The higher carbonization temperature increased density of carbonized board and surface temperature of carbonized board so that density is considered to influence surface temperature change. Moreover, carbonized boards kept heat for a long time because the descent velocity of carbonized boards' surface temperature was slower than that of heater's.

  • This paper has considered the location estimation problem in two dimension space by using a non-linear filter under non-Gaussian noise in underwater acoustic sensor networks(UASNs). Recently, the extended Kalman filter (EKF) is widely used in location estimation. However, the EKF has a lot of problems in the non-linear system under the non-gaussian noise environment like underwater environment. In this paper, we propose the improved Two-Dimension Particle Filter (TDPF) using the re-interpretation distribution techniques based on the maximum likelihood (ML). Through the simulation, we compared and analyzed the proposed TDPF with the EKF under the non-Gaussian underwater sensor networks. Finally, we determined that the TDPF's result shows more accurate localization than EKF's result.

  • This study aims to update the supply-demand model of wood products(FOSMO-2013) and to forecast mid and long run supply and demand for each products. The subjects of the study include sawnwood, plywood, particle board, fiberboard(MDF), and pulp. The updated partial equilibrium model is composed of supply function, import demand function, demand function, price relation function. The long run outlooks of world prices of wood and wood products are imported from the results of Buongiorno(2012). This study also adopt Buongiorno's scenarios, which includes three scenarios of IPCC(A1B, A2, B2) and the other one with assumption of increasing fuelwood consumption of A1B scenario. The result says that the domestic productions of wood products are expecting to decrease while the imports of them increase even there are some differences among the products as well as scenarios.

  • A clustering method for temporal data takes a model-based approach. This uses automata based model for each cluster. It is necessary to construct global models for a set of data in order to elicit individual models for the cluster. The preparation for building individual models is completed by determining the number of clusters inherent in the data set. In this paper, BIC(Bayesian Information Criterion) approximation is used to determine the number clusters and confirmed its applicability. A search technique to improve efficiency is also suggested by analyzing the relationship between data size and BIC values. A number of experiments have been performed to check its validity using artificially generated data sets. BIC approximation measure has been confirmed that it suggests best number of clusters through experiments provided that the number of data is relatively large.

  • This experiment was carried out to improve the physical and mechanical properties of sawdust-board by combining with reinforce material, that is, plastic wire screen and steel wire screen. In experiment results, the density of sawdust-board reinforced with three steel wire screens was highest and its bending strength was also highest. Wastepaper-5% mixed sawdust-board showed as high bending strength as other boards, and therefore the possibility of using wastepaper as raw materials for boards. The sawdust-board with steel wire screen was not ruptured immediatedly after having been deformed by static loading. However, plywood showed higher bending strength than the reinforced sawdust-boards.

  • This study examined the combined using effects of urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin and emulsifiable methylene diphyenyl diisocyanate (EMDI) resin to overcome performance limit of three-layer particleboards commonly made by UF resin. Two adhesive adding methods were applied with three types of resin combination system to each layer of particleboards. The one was simultaneously spreading method with emulsified compound resin (UF and EMDI) while the other was separately spreading method with unemulsified EMDI resin after UF resin spreading. The performance of particleboards bonded with 2% EMDI resin to the inner layers(IL) were similar to that of controls bonded with 8% UF resin. In the case of the emulsified compound resin application to the all layers of particleboards, there were marked reinforcing effects of EMDI resin, although a small amount of EMDI resin was mixed with UF resin. Especially bending MOR after 24 hours cold water-immersion and thickness swelling after 2 hours hot water-immersion of compound resin-bonded particleboards were remarkably different from those of pure UF resin-bonded particleboards. It was found that separately spreading method with unemulsified EMDI resin was more effective than simultaneously spreading method with emulsified compound resin to sustain the internal bond strength of particleboards after 24 hours cold water-immersion. In the resin combination systems to outer layers/inner layers of particleboards, water resistance and strength properties were superior in order of UF+EMDI/UF+EMDI > UF/UF+EMDI > UF/UF. And water resistance of particleboards was greatly dependent upon EMDI resin level in any adhesive adding method.

  • This study was carried out to determine the withdrawal strength of various screws according to root diameter of screw and embeded length on the face and edge of domestic particleboard and medium density fiberboard. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The withdrawal strength of screw in domestic particleboard and medium density fiberboard was closely related to embeded length of the screw but less dependent on root diameter of the screw. 2. The withdrawal strength on the face and edge of domestic particleboard could be predicted by means of the following expression: $F_{Pf}=4.60{\times}D^{0.24}{\times}L^{1.14}(R^2=0.87)$ $F_{Pe}=0.54{\times}D^{0.43}{\times}L^{1.73}(R^2=0.84)$ Where: $F_{Pf}$ : withdrawal strength on the face of particleboard(kgf) $F_{Pe}$=withdrawal strength on the edge of particleboard(kgf) D=diameter of the screw(mm) L=embeded length(mm) 3. The withdrawal strength on the face and edge of domestic medium density fiberboard could he predicted by means of the following expression: $FM_f=1.53{\times}D^{0.53}{\times}L^{1.39}(R^2=0.93)$ $F_{Me}=1.14{\times}D^{0.66}{\times}L^{1.36}(R^2=0.87)$ where: $F_{Mf}$ = withdrawal strength on the face of medium density fiberboard(kgf) $F_{Mf}$=withdrawal strength on the edge of medium density fiberboard(kgf).

  • Unlike other composites boards such as fiberboard and particleboard, plywood is manufactured with sheets of veneers. When the plywood manufactured, the adhesive is spreaded through gluelines on each surface of veneers. For that reason, formaldehyde emission of plywood can be considered as different way. Therefore, this research was conducted to understand the formaldehyde emission pattern of plywood. To measure formaldehyde emission, four different specimen preparing methods were used. The test specimen taken by a total surface area, a given number and a total side area showed inconsistent results. On the other hand, the result of formaldehyde emission showed consistency when considered only the length of adhesive layers.

  • The ability to control filler performance and fines retention is vital in the development of both filled and non filled grades, respectively. This is very important when achieving the desired sheet structure necessary to maximize machine performance and end user demands. A narrow balance exists in attaining the desired retention and formation particularly in systems with heavier ash loads and producing paper and paper board on higher speed high shear equipment. A new generation of both cationic and anionic micropolymer technologies has been developed. These water based chemistries are volatile organic compound (VOC) and alkyphenol ethoxylate (APE) free. When these novel micropolymers are applied with linear poly-acrylamide or in conjunction with inorganic microparticle technologies (such as silica or swellable minerals), substantial increases in drainage, fibre retention and ash retention are observed. These improvements have been observed not only in high filled wood and non wood containing grades such as fine paper and super calendared sheets (SCA), but also in low filled newsprint grades. Of particular note is the drainage improvement seen with the application of the cationic micropolymers in unbleached packaging grades with poly-acrylamide.
