  • 과장 변환기는 WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) 시스템에서 wavelength relocation을 가능하게 하여 시스템의 유연성과 효율성을 향상시킨다는 측면에서 매우 중요한 기능을 갖는다. WDM 시스템의 채널의 수가 점차 증가함에 따라 채널의 간격이 100 GHz에 이르고 있으며 향후 더욱 조밀해 질것이다. 이러한 DWDM (Dense WDM)시스템에서 사용될 수 있는 파장변환기는 100 GHz단위의 파장변환 기능과 광대역 가변 변위가 필수적이다. (중략)

  • We propose a Yb:YAG laser Q-switched by a semiconductor saturable absorber and a laser output coupler composed of a polarizer and a quarter-wave plate, and we investigate the output characteristics of the proposed Q-switched laser. We show that the laser power can be varied by rotation of the quarter-wave plate.

  • A Cr:LiSAF laser pumped by semiconductor lasers was constructed. The pumping laser was a high-power semiconductor laser (SDL 7432-H1) of wavelength 674 nm and maximum power of 500 mW. The laser crystal was a Cr:LiSAF of plano-Brewster shape with 3% Cr3+ion concentration and 3 mm in length. The plane facet of the crystal was coated to get the maximum transmittance of pupmping laser and maximu reflection over the 800 - 880 nm bandwidth. V-shaped resonator was used to compensate the astigmatism induced by the crystal. The output power of the Cr:LiSAF laser was 19.4 mW at the pumping power of 290 mW. The wavelength was tuned by a steep dive-angled birefringent filter from 840 nm to 880 nm and the characteristics of the filter were agreed well with a theory.

  • We have constructed a high efficiency and broad tunable cw Ti:sapphire laser with a four-mirror symmetric Z-type laser cavity to increase the laser usability. From theoretical analyses and experimental data for a symmetric Z-type laser cavity containing a Kerr medium, the cavity mode size and the Kerr-lens mode-locking (KLM) strength for KLM lasers can be confirmed as function of the position in the cavity, the intracavity laser power, and the stability parameter. As a result, the slope efficiency and the maximum average output power of cw Ti:sapphire laser at 5 W pumping power of Ar-ion laser were 31.3% and 1420 ㎽ respectively. The tunablility was ranged from 730 ㎚ to 908 ㎚ with average output power above 700 ㎽. We obtained the KLM operation easily by self-aperturing effect in the Kerr medium and the slope efficiency and the maximum average output power of KLM Ti:sapphire laser was 16% and 550 ㎽ respectively. The spectral bandwidth was 33 ㎚ at the center wavelength of 807 ㎚ and the pulse width was 27 fs with a repetition rate of 82 ㎒.

  • Integrated cavity output spectroscopy(ICOS) is a simple, non-intrusive absorption measurement technique that can detect and quantify trace-level gas species. The spectral absorbance of a gas is quantified from the integrated optical output of the modulated high-finesse cavity containing the sample which is irradiated by a wavelength-swept laser source. We constructed an experimental setup by using a tunable single mode external cavity diode laser operating at the wavelength near 765 nm and a Fabry-Perot cavity with length modulation achieved by a piezoelectric transducer where one of the cavity mirrors sat on. In the experiment performed on minute oxygen gas at the wave-length near 764.5nm, we demonstrated the minimum detectable absorption of $8.45\times10^{-8}cm^{-1}$.

  • Wavelength and repetition-rate tunable optical pulse-trains for ultrafast optical time- and wavelength division multiplexing are generated from a semiconductor fiber ring laser by optical injection mode-locking. The pulse trains show the pulse with of ${\sim}10$ ps and the wavelength tuning of wider than 30 nm at various repetition-rates of 10 GHz, 20 GHz, 30 GHz and 40 GHz, respectively.

  • A widely tunable add/drop filter composed of double ring resonators is implemented with high-index-contrast polymer waveguide. To enhance the productivity, directional couplers are designed to have good fabrication tolerance. The refractive indices of the core and cladding in the 1550 nm wavelength are 1.51 and 1.378, respectively. Drop response in comparison with neighborhood peak gets enhanced by more than 2.9 dB at the wavelength where both rings resonate. This filter can be used to build widely tunable laser diode through hybrid-integration with reflective SOA.
