A Study of frequency tunable Ti:sapphire laser for UV lidar (UV 라이다용 주파수 가변 Ti:sapphire 레이저에 관한 연구)

  • Multipass Ti:sapphire amplifier for the light source of lidar was developed in an angular-multiplexing, and the characteristics of output energy and spectrum was investigated. In the two-stage multipass amplifier, we obtained the maximum output energy of 42 mJ, the amplification gain of 21 dB and the output efficiency of 26% on the wavelength of 790 nm. In the tuning range of 715~930nm the spectral linewidth is 0.05 $cm^{-1}$ /. The conversion efficiencies of 35% for SHG at 780 m and 13% for THG at 390 nm are obtained respectively. The continuous tunabilities of 240~306 m UV region and 360~460 nm in deep-blue region could be achieved.

Linear interrogation of fiber Bragg grating sensor array using time-delayed quadrature sampling technique (시간지연 샘플링을 이용한 광섬유 격자 센서어레이의 선형 복조)

  • A fiber laser of which wavelength was scanned by an intra-cavity FP (Fabry-Perot) filter was used to interrogate a fiber Bragg grating strain sensor array. We calculated the wavelength variation of the fiber laser using quadrature signal processing with an unbalanced M/Z (Mach-Zehnder) interferometer and time-delayed sampling technique. The calculated wavelengths are mapped to corresponding temporal reflection peaks from the sensor array, which enables more accurate and stable interrogation without the problems caused by the FP filter's nonlinear characteristics. Wavelength resolution of ∼20 pm was obtained in our experimental setup, which could have been greatly enhanced with faster phase modulation.

  • We have reduced the oscillating linewidth of the commercial single mode InGaAsP visible laser diodes which emits in the 657 nm region of the spectrum down to 10 MHz by making a extended cavity employing the Littrow-type grating. The wavelength tuning characteristics of the commercial visible laser diode (CQL820D, Philips Co.) for the grating angle, laser temperature, and injection currents were measured by using the wavemeter. The proportional coefficients of the laser were found to be 1 THzlmrad, 32.4 GHz/K, and 6.14 GHz/mA, respectively.tively.

  • In this paper, a small double ring resonator reflector was designed and fabricated using a polymer waveguide, and the measurement result was discussed. A widely tunable characteristic of the small double ring resonator caused by the Vernier effect, which results from the difference of the ring radii, was observed. The insertion loss of the double ring reflector was reduced by minimizing the device length to be as short as possible, and thus the output power and the SMSR (side mode suppression ratio) was greatly enhanced. The hybrid integrated laser based on the small double ring resonator reflector lased with the SMSR of 45 dB. In addition, the wide tuning range of 40 nm could be obtained by injecting a current of 30 mA to an electrode on top of the reflector.

  • A pulsed Ti : sapphire laser with a Z-folded cavity, which was pumped by a frequency-doubled Nd : YAG laser, was developed. A laser output energy of 822 $\mu$J with a pulsewidth of 5 ns and an output efficiency of 27.4% was obtained at a center wavelength of 790 nm using an output coupler of 18% reflectance. The slope efficiency was 35%. The output beam diameter was 0.9 mm, and the divergence angle was 1.8 mrad. The spectrum tunability was about 120 nm from 740 nm to 860 nm with a FWHM of 90 nm at an 18% output coupler and a pumping energy of 3 mJ.

  • A high-speed wavelength swept laser, which is based on oscillation characteristics of a fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter, is described. The laser is constructed by using a semiconductor optical amplifier, a fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter, and 3.348 km fiber ring cavity. The wavelength sweeps are repeatatively generated with the repetition period of 61 kHz which is the first parallel oscillation frequency of the Fabry-Perot tunable filter for the low power consumption. Mode-locking is implemented by 3.348 km fiber ring cavity for matching the fundamental of cavity roundtrip time to the sweep period. The wavelength tuning range of the laser is 87 nm(FWHM) and the average output power is 1.284 mW.

  • We propose a linearly polarized long-cavity Yb:YAG laser with a variable-reflectivity output coupler and investigate its output characteristics. The variable output coupler consists of a polarized beam splitter and a quarter-wave plate. The linearly polarized laser has a long cavity length of about 3.7 m. The slope efficiency of the proposed laser is 19%, and the beam quality ($M^2$) is about 1.2.

  • The various output characteristics of a pulsed Ti:sapphire laser oscillator with a plane-parallel resonator, pumped longitudinally by the second harmonic wave of a Nd:YAG laser, and the output of a Ti:sapphire laser amplifier operated along the single path of the oscillator beam were investigated and analyzed. In the case of the oscillator, we measured the spectrum, the pulse buildup time, the temporal duration time of the pulse, and the output energy according to the variation of the pumping energy, resonator length, and the reflectance of the output coupler. And, in the case of the amplifier, we investigated and analyzed the output energy of the amplifier as a function of the time difference between the two pump beams of the oscillator and the amplifier, the pumping energy of the oscillator, and the pumping energy of the amplifier When pump energies of both the oscillator and the amplifier were 18 mJ/pulse, we could find that the output energy of the amplifier increased linearly and gradually up to the time difference of 35 ns. Finally, we determined that the slope efficiencies of the oscillator and the amplifier were 23.5 % and 11.6 %, respectively.

세포 포집 소자 제작을 위한 펨토초 레이저 미세 가공

  • 최근 세포 포집 소자 제작에 있어 세포의 종류와 크기의 다양성을 고려하여 정확하게 포집하기 위한 고정밀화, 소형화 된 도구 제작 기술 개발이 중요한 현안으로 떠오르고 있다. 본 연구에서는 선행 기술에서의 세포 포집 한계를 극복하기 위한 방안으로 펨토초 레이저 가공을 통한 미세 세포 포집 장치 제작에 관한 실험을 진행하였다. 펨토초 레이저의 짧은 파장의 대역 범위와 전력 특성이 미세 소자 제작을 가능하게 함에 따라 수백, 수천 개의 세포 포집에 있어 보다 안정적이고 신뢰도 높은 포집 장치 구현을 실현시킬 수 있다. 실험에서는 펨토초 레이저의 가공 조건을 가변하며 MEMS 소자에 홀(hole)을 형성시켰다. flatness 200인 Polycarbonate 재질의 기판 위에 CNC공작기계를 사용하여 유로를 제작하고 상부에 젤라틴 코팅 부분 2를 포함한 총 두께 12의 membrane 필름을 부착하였다. 이후 775 nm 파장의 펨토초 레이저를 사용하여 10${\times}$10 개수의 홀을 형성 한 후 홀 주위의 thermal damage와 레이저의 파워에 따른 홀의 형태와 크기 변화를 비교하였다. 실험 결과 membrane 막의 젤라틴 코팅 측면 홀의 평균 직경은 레이저의 파워와 비례하여 증가하였으며, 레이저 파워가 일정한 임계치에 도달하면 특정 시점에서 수렴됨을 확인하였다. 또한 PET 측면의 직경은 서서히 증가하고 빠르게 일정한 값으로 수렴됨을 확인하였다. 본 실험에서는 펨토초 레이저의 특성 파라미터와 레이저의 가공 조건을 수립함으로써 실험에서 사용 된 레이저를 이용한 드릴링 방안을 제시한다.
