This research is to collect, classify and identify the insects boring tunnels into wood or damaging wooden frame structure. Intensive insect collections have been carried at the historical local schools annexed to the confucian shrine from March to September 2001. Ten species of Coleoptera, 15 species of Hymenoptera, 6 species of Hemiptera, 4 species of Ditera and 1 species of Demaptera were recorded. Most species of Coleoptera and Hymenoptera have the manducatory apparatus in the mouth-part that cause severe damage in wood, and showed the highest population among the genera recorded. Further research should be considered on the identification of wood demage insects at the species level among present collection and their mechanism of wood demage in the wood.
Insects have evolved successfully by adapting to their environments through development and reproduction. Temperature-dependent models have been used to calculate the intrinsic optimal, optimal development, and optimal fecundity temperatures of insects and mites; for this study, we reviewed 112 works that focused on these parameters. The insects and mites investigated in this study include 14 Acari, 8 Coleoptera, 5 Diptera, 31 Hemiptera, 7 Hymenoptera, 18 Lepidoptera, 1 Orthoptera, 5 Psocoptera, and 5 Thysanoptera species. The results of this study showed that the interval distance between the intrinsic optimal and optimal fecundity temperatures was smaller than that between the intrinsic optimal and optimal development temperatures of the all insects and mites investigated except for those in the order Thysanoptera. We found that there is a close relationship between the intrinsic optimal and optimal fecundity temperatures.
This study was carried out to investigate the seasonal occurrence of Green Rice Leafhopper(GLH), Nephotettix cincticeps Uhler population in the field at Jinju in $1977{\sim}1978$. GLH density was observed by suction catcher (D-Vac, 33cm in diameter) for overwintering population and by direct visual counting for paddy field population. GLH overwintered mainly as 4th-instar nymph in the levee and moved to the foxtail growing in the paddy with development after winter. The mean emergence date of adults, of the overwintered generation was on April 8 in 1977 and March 30 in 1978, and that of 1st generation was on June 11 in 1977 and June 10 in 1978. Adults of overwintered generation oviposited in foxtail from late April to early May. GLH occurred two generations in the paddy field and the population size in the paddy field was not greatly changed in two years.
Car following model is a theory that examines changes of condition and interrelationship of acceleration deceleration. headway, velocity and so on closely based on the hypothesis that the Posterior vehicle always follows the preceding vehicle. Car following mode) which is one of the research fields of microscopic traffic flow was first introduced in 1950s and was in active progress in 1960s. However, due to the limitation of data gathering the research depression was prominent for quite a while and then soon was able to tune back on track with development in global positioning system using satellite and generalization of computer use. Recently, there has been many research studies using reception materials of global Positioning system(GPS). Introducing GPS technology to traffic has made real time tracking of a vehicle position possible. Position information is sequential in terms of time and simultaneous measurement of several vehicles in continuous driving is also practicable. Above research was focused on judging whether it is feasible to overcome the following model research by adopting the GPS reception device that was restrictively proceeded due to the limitation of data gathering. For practical judgment, we measured the accuracy and confidence level of the GPS reception devices material by carrying out a practical experiment. Car following model is also being applied in simulations of traffic flow analysis, but due to the difficulty of estimating parameters the basis of the above result. it is our goal to produce an accurate calibration of car following model's parameters that is suitable in this domestic actuality.

Although some skeptical views arguing that the impact of organic farming is quite limited to sustainable biodiversity, the organic agriculture has been generally accepted to have positive effects on various properties of soils not only on biophysical and ecological properties but also on biodiversity of the field. Therefore, this field investigation has been conducted to examine the effect of organic farming, relative to conventional agriculture, through a comparative investigations of the two systems for conserving local biodiversity of invertebrate animals. For this research, organic and conventional farming locations matched with both of a paddy field and a upland fields in Goesan-gun province (Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea) were selected to compare the species richness of invertebrate biodiversity as follows: location OP (Organic Paddy field), location OU (Organic Upland field), location CP (Conventional Paddy field), and location CU (Conventional Upland field). Among 249 species collected, the numbers of species collected in the locations practicing organic farming were greater than the locations practicing conventional farming both in paddy fields (104 vs. 84 species) and upland fields (108 vs. 77 species). Changes in species richness can be shown in the selected locations depending on the agriculture system with organic (50 species) or conventional (44 species) farming systems in the paddy fields, similarly with organic (42 species) or conventional (35 species) farming in the upland fields, respectively. Our present research clearly shows that a wide range of taxa, including insects, spiders and other invertebrates, benefit from organic management through increases in abundance or species richness. It has been also identified that four orders (Hemiptera, Diptera, Hynemoptera, and Araneae) that are largely intrinsic to organic paddy field, and another three orders (Hemiptera, Coleoptera, and Araneae) that are particularly beneficial for organic crop field regime.
A Study on zooplankton fauna and phytoplankton flora was carried out three times in June, August and September 2012 at the Hyuncheon wetland in Gangwon-do, Korea. A total of 14 taxa of zooplankton were distributed, which consisted of six rotifers, four cladocerans, two copepods, one nematode and one aquatic insect larvae. Occurrence of Simulium japonicum supports that studied water is the first grade clear water. It was observed that the abundance of zooplankton was never exceeded over $55ind.L^{-1}$. Rotifers dominated in the months of June and August, whereas cladocerans in September, respectively. The phytoplankton flora was consisted of 26 species. The standing crops varied between $4,080{\sim}10,120cell.L^{-1}$. Docidium undulatum is the typical species distributed in muddy wetland and Closterium acerosum is distributed widely from wetlands through lakes. Navicula spp. and Nitzchia spp. were recorded to be distributed in lentic waters of big lakes such as Paldang Lake. Species diversity indices decreased gradually from June to September between 1.3~1.9 in zooplankton but lowest in August between 0.9~1.6 in phytoplankton, respectively. Based on my study observation, I anticipate that the poor distribution of zooplankton, phytoplankton, and low values of species diversity index are likely to be a cause of narrow area with shallowness of waters during the short period.
This survey was conducted to illustrate insect pests and their natural enemies in soybean fields in Honam area. A total of 23 pest species in 13 families and 13 species of natural enemy were observed during 2002 to 2003. Delia platura, Medythia nigrobilineata, Spodoptera exigua and Aphis glycines occurred relatively with high population densities during the early growth stage of soybean. Dolycoris baccarum, Riptortus clavatus, Nezara antennata, Piezodorus hybneri and Halyomorpha halys began to occur between mid July to early August and lasted until the harvest time. Lepidopteran insect pests, Leguminivora glycinivorella, Pleuroptya ruralis, Scopula missaria, Macdunnoughia purissima and Spodoptera litura occurred significantly in late August in soybean field. Natural enemies of soybean insect pests observed in this survey were seven parasitoids, five predators, and an entomopahogenic fungus. Two egg parasitoid species for R. clavatus, two parasitoid species for P. ruralis, and five natural enemy species (including parasite, predator and entomopathogenic fungi) for either S. litura or A. glycines were identified, respectively. Among them two egg parasitoid species, Gryon japonicum and Ooenyrtus nezarae for R. clavatus, for and one parasitoid species for P. ruralis, that belong to Bethylidae, were new to Korea.
The population ecology (Ecological characteristics) of Squalidus chankaensis tsuchigae were investigated at Geum River from March to November, 2013. This species inhabited midstream of the river where was mostly covered with cobble and sand. The depth of the habitat was 30~60 cm and velocity of stream was 2.27~4.88 cm/sec. The sex ratio of female to male was 1 : 0.86. They were sexually mature when they were over two years of age. The spawning period was from June to July with water temperatures from $25^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$. Sexually matured individuals appeared over the two year of age. Frequency analysis of total length indicated that the group with 55~70 mm in total length was one year old, the 71~90 mm was two years old, and the group over 91 mm was three years old. The average number of eggs in the ovaries was estimated as 2,219 per matured female. The number of matured eggs size in ovaries was 0.64~0.98 (mean: 0.85) mm. Calulation length-weight relation of S. chankaensis tsuchigae show the value of contant a as 0.0002 and b as 2.81, and condition factor (K) was 1.06 on average. The stomach contents were Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, Bacillariophyta, Crustaceae, Copepoda, Nematota, Actithocephala, and Ephemeroptera, Hemiptera, Diptera, and Trichoptera that belong to Aquatic insect, and dormant bud of Pectinatella that belongs to Phylactolaemata. The diet of S. chankaensis tsuchigae was omnivorous, mainly vegetable feed on attached algae (filament form), and mainly animality feeded on benthic invertebrates such as Chironomidae larvae.

Seasonal variation in species composition of estuarine fauna in the Han River estuary was determined using monthly samples collected near Ganghwa Island by a bag net from February to December 2009. Total number of species was 86: 54 species of fishes, 16 species of shrimps of crustacean, 12 species of other crustacean such as craps and so on, 3 species of cephalopods and 1 species of jellyfish. Of a total of 86 species, Palaeman carinicauda (32.6%), Acetes japonicus (15.9%), Palaemon gravieri (9.9%), Portunus trituberculatus (7.7%) and Acetes chinensis (6.9%) were predominated in abundance. These 5 crustacean accounted for 73% of total. Abundance, biomass and diversity of Han River estuarine fauna were high in spring and autumn, indicating typical pattern of temperate area. Out of dominant species, the brackish residence species such as Coilia nasus, Chelon haematocheilus, Mugil cephalus, Synechogobius hasta, Lophiogobius ocellicauda, Tridentiger barbatus, Palaeman carinicauda, Palaemon gravieri were collected almost year-round and predominated in abundance. Coastal migratory fauna species such as Coilia mystus, Thryssa hamiltonii, Thryssa adelae, Sardinella zunasi, Engraulis japonicus, Portunus trituberculatus, Acetes japonicus, Collichthys lucidus, Pampus argenteus were most plentiful from spring through autumn. Their adult coastal migratory entered the estuary in spring and large numbers of their juveniles were grew in summer and autumn until moving out to deeper waters for over-wintering, indicating they use estuary as nursing ground. Diadromous fish such as Anguila japonica adults were collected in autumn during their downstream migration. Brackish fauna and crustacean, especially shrimps were predominant, and few contaminant indicator species collected in the Han River estuary, indicating this area maintains the characteristics of natural estuary ecosystem.
Pinus koraiensis (Pk), P. rigida (Pr) and P. rigida ${\times}$ P. taeda (Pr. t) seedlings in a bare-rooted nursery were artificially inoculated with Pisolithus tinctorius (Pt) and Thelephora terrestris (Tt) to test long term effects of ectomycorrhizal inoculation on host growth. Mycelial inocula of Pt and Tt were mass-cultured in vermiculite-peatmoss mixture and introduced into fumigated nursery soil before seed sowing. Bare-rooted, inoculated seedlings at one to four years of age were outplanted to the field with $P_2O_5$ content of 25 ppm in soil. At the time of outplanting, Pk seedlings(4 years old), Pr seedlings(2 years old), and Pr.t seedlings(1 year old) all infected by Pt were significantly taller by 28%. 26%, and 77%, respectively, than controlled seedlings infected by natural population of mycorrhizal fungi in the non-fumigated plot. Ten years after inoculation or six to nine years after outplanting, Pk seedlings inoculated with Pt were significantly taller by 9% Pr.t seedlings significantly taller by 18%, and Pr slightly Caller by 2%(not significant) than controlled seedlings, suggesting that the stimulatory effect of Pt on host growth gradually declined or became minimal after outplanting. Tt failed to stimulate host growth either in the nursery or in the field, and the survival rate of outplanted seedlings was not different among fungal treatments. Considerable loss of the infected root system during lifting the seedlings for outplanting would be the primary cause of the reduced effect of Pt in the field. Pt infected more than 90% of the fine roots in the fumigated nursery during the first growing season, but Pt assumed to fail to compete successfully with natural population of ectomycorrhizal fungi in the field. It is necessary to select other mycorrhizal fungi which adapt well in both nursery and field.
