  • This paper developed a method analyze drivers' response characteristics using spectral analysis with car following data. Cross-correlation function and cross spectrum are produced by Fourier transform from speed fluctuations of leading vehicle and following vehicle during the designated time ${\tau}$. Based on the analysis data, a process to calculate the reaction time and stimulus-adaption index of following vehicle was developed and 170 cases of field data was applied. It was reported average of 0.654 and 2.091 seconds of stimulus-adaption index and reaction time respectively. In conclusion, the developed indexes might contribute to enhance vehicle control of autonomous vehicle more efficient and safer.

  • Liquid film flows are classified into waveless laminar, wavy laminar, and turbulent flows depending on the Reynolds number or the flow stability. Since the wavy motions of the film flows are so intricate and nonlinear, studies on them have largely been experimental. Most numerical approaches have been limited to the waveless flow regime. The various free surface-tracking schemes adopted for this problem were used to more accurately estimate the average film thickness, rather than to capture the unsteady wavy motion. In this study, the wavy motions in laminar wavy liquid film flows with Reynolds numbers of 200-1000 were simulated with various numerical schemes based on the volume of fluid (VOF) method for interface tracking. The results from each numerical scheme were compared with the experimental results in terms of the average film thickness, the wave velocity, and the wave amplitude.

  • In this research, we study the propagation of longitudinal and transverse waves through a metal rod including a liquid layer using computational and experimental analyses. The propagation characteristics of longitudinal and transverse waves obtained by the computational and experimental analyses were consistent with the wave propagation theory for both cases, that is, the homogeneous metal rod and the metal rod including a liquid layer. The fluid-structure interaction modeling technique developed for the computational wave propagation analysis in this research can be applied to the more complex structures including solid-liquid interfaces.

  • The accuracy of the uniform WKB solution for a two-turning point problem is examined in comparison with the corresponding numerical solution. It is found that the uniform WKB solution is extremely accurate. Various Franck-Condon factors for a model system are calculated as an example of applications of such approximate wavefunction. The accuracy of the factors thus calculated is very good. By using the uniform WKB wavefunctions, we have examined the asymptotic limit of the Frank-Condon factors and derived the condition for the frequencies of the transitions, $E'_{n'J'}-U'_{eff}(r_s)=E"_{n"J"}-U"_{eff}(r_s),$, which was obtained by Mulliken using physical arguments.
