Mobile Panorama System via 3D Model Reconstruction (3차원 모델 재구성을 통한 모바일 파노라마 시스템)

  • We can use panorama systems or image based modeling systems when we want to make 3D space model and look around result. Panorama systems make 3D model to stitch images and map cylinder or cube. The structure of 3D model, made by panorama system, is not same as structure of a real room, so user can't infer a real structure. Typically, Image based modeling systems work on a desktop computer. That makes it difficult to reconstruct 3D model in real time and take long time for processing. In this paper, we propose a 3D panorama modeling system that uses images on a mobile device. This system reconstructs a 3D space model, similar with a real room in real time, from multiple images captured part of rooms. Using this system, user can reconstruct various shape of space and look around a 3D space model.

Method for Generating an Object Panorama based on Trumpet-shape Space Modeling (나팔 형태의 공간 모델링을 기반으로 한 객체 파노라마 생성 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a method for generating a realistic object panorama by considering geometric transformations of camera views in a general photographing environment. In the proposed method, we first model a trumpet-shape panorama space based on geometric transformations of camera, such as vertical rotation and horizontal rotation movement around a target model. We then generate an object panorama by mapping model images to the trumpet-shape panorama space. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, experiments were conducted on a large size model, which is quite difficult for us to generate the object panorama without special equipments in general. The experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively generate an object panorama, which is usually generated in a special photographing environment, regardless of the size of target model.

A Study on the Development of an Indoor Positioning Support System for Providing Landmark Information (랜드마크 정보 제공을 위한 실내위치측위 지원 시스템 구축에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, various positioning technologies are being researched based on signal-based positioning and image-based positioning to obtain accurate indoor location information. Among these, various studies are being conducted on image positioning technology that determines the location of a mobile terminal using images acquired through cameras and sensor data collected as needed. For video-based positioning, a method of determining indoor location is used by matching mobile terminal photos with virtual landmark images, and for this purpose, it is necessary to build indoor spatial information about various landmarks such as billboards, vending machines, and ATM machines. In order to construct indoor spatial information on various landmarks, a panoramic image in the form of a road view and accurate 3D survey results were obtained through c 13 buildings of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI). When comparing the 3D total station final result and the terrestrial lidar panoramic image coordinates, the coordinates and distance performance were obtained within about 0.10m, confirming that accurate landmark construction for use in indoor positioning was possible. By utilizing these terrestrial lidar achievements to perform 3D landmark modeling necessary for image positioning, it was possible to more quickly model landmark information that could not be constructed only through 3D modeling using existing as-built drawings.

  • CORONA는 미국이 1960년에서 1972년까지 냉전시대 관심지역에 대한 첩보영상을 취득하기 위하여 운영한 영상취득시스템으로 1995년 일반에 자료가 공개됨에 따라 과거의 고해상도 영상자료를 이용할 수 있는 길이 열리게 되었다. 그러나 현재까지 CORONA 영상처리를 위한 모듈을 제공하는 원격탐측 소프트웨어가 개발되어 있지 않기 때문에 CORONA 영상을 이용하여 수치표고모형이나 정사영상을 제작하기 위해서는 적절한 모델링 방법이 필요하다. CORONA 영상은 파노라마 영상으로 필름 가장자리로 갈수록 왜곡이 많이 생기며 사진기 지표가 없고 위성의 궤도와 위치, 자세, 속도, IMC(Image Motion Compensation)에 대한 자세한 자료를 제공하지 않는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 지형복원을 위하여 지상기준점을 이용하는 2가지 모델링 방법을 이용하였다. 첫 번째는 파노라마 왜곡과 촬영 비행체 이동에 의한 왜곡, IMC에 의한 왜곡을 보정하는 모형식을 구성하여 이용하였으며, 두 번째는 위성과 센서에 대한 정보를 필요로 하지 않는 다항식비례모형(RFM; Rational Function Model)을 이용하였다. 대상지역은 서울지역의 입체영상으로 대략 $33km{\times}26km$ 지역이다. 영상은 지상해상도 약 2.7m로 스캐닝하였고 1:1000 수치지도를 통해 20개의 기준점과 36개의 검사점을 관측하였다. 검사점의 위치정확도를 평가해 본 결과 첫 번째 방법은 수평방향으로 평균 3.9m(X), 2.8m(Y)의 오차를 보였으며 표고의 경우 4.2m의 오차를 보여주었다. 두 번째 방법은 수평방향으로 평균 3.2m(X), 2.8m(Y)의 오차를 보였으며 표고의 경우 5.5m의 오차를 보여주었다. 지형복원 정확도를 검증하기 위하여 첫 번째 방법을 이용하여 대상지역 중 일부인 서울 남산지역에 대해 정사영상과 10m간격의 DEM을 제작하였으며 1:1000 수치지도를 통해 제작된 DEM과 비교한 결과 총 43990개 격자점의 표고 차이는 평균 5.98m였다.

Correction of Geometric Distortion of Internet Aerial Imagery and Photo-Realistic 3D Building Modeling (인터넷 항공영상의 왜곡보정과 실감적 3차원 건물 모델링)

  • Many internet portals provide maps with spatial information services. Recently, various images including aerial, satellite, street view, and photo-realistic 3D city models are provided as well as maps. This study suggested a method for geometric correction of the panoramic aerial images in the internet portal and 3D building modeling using information which is available in the internet. The key of this study is to obtain all necessary data easily from internet without restrictions. Practically, the ground control coordinates could be available from geo-referenced internet maps, and stereo pairs of the aerial images and close-range photographs for photo-realistic object modeling are provided by the internet service. However, the ground control points are not suitable for accurate mapping. RMSE of the plotting was about 9 meters and reduced upto 4 meters after coordinate transformation. The proposed methods would be applicable to various applications of photo-realistic object modeling which do not require high accuracy.

Development of Web-based Virtual Theme Park Using X3D Components and Profiles (X3D 컴포넌트와 프로파일을 이용한 웹 기반 가상테마 파크의 구축)

  • As the tools for constructing the cyber world such as virtual theme park on the web, QuickTime VR for 2D panorama Images and VRML for 3D modeling have been used for years. QuickTime VR had some weak points, which were the distortion of images and the difficulties of operating objects vividly and navigating effectively. VRML, though it was able to support various 3D elements to users, was not able to be approached easily by users because of the difficulties for providing viewer. Therefore, in this thesis, we will make it easy for users to approach the contents on the web, offering the concept of X3D components, and profiles and will construct the highly marketable 3D cyber world.

Implementation of Selective Mapping Billboard for Production of Image-based 3D Virtual Reality (실사기반의 3차원 가상현실 제작을 위한 선택적 맵핑 방식의 빌보드 구현)

  • This investigation proposes a new method to overcome disadvantages of panorama VR that is oriented toward spacial information and Object VR that is oriented toward object itself and consequently to make 3D virtual reality (VR) contents efficiently by using image based approach. 3D VR contents provide satisfactory qualities to users but 3D modeling is complex and elaborative and requires high cost. So, this paper aims at reducing tremendous efforts for making 3D VR by substituting 3D modeling with 'advanced Billboard'(we call it Smart Billboard). Smart Billboard has a mechanism for selecting an adequate mapping image that is observable at each user viewpoint and carry on texture mapping into the Billboard. And it is validated with the practical embodiments of a virtual museum in which the exhibitions are prepared by Smart Billboard.

Panoramic Navigation using Orthogonal Cross Cylinder Mapping and Image-Segmentation Based Environment Modeling (직각 교차 실린더 매핑과 영상 분할 기반 환경 모델링을 이용한 파노라마 네비게이션)

  • Orthogonal Cross Cylinder mapping and segmentation based modeling methods have been implemented for constructing the image-based navigation system in this paper. The Orthogonal Cross Cylinder (OCC) is the object expressed by the intersection area that occurs when a cylinder is orthogonal with another. OCC mapping method eliminates the singularity effect caused in the environment maps and shows an almost even amount of area for the environment occupied by a single texel. A full-view image from a fixed point-of-view can be obtained with OCC mapping although it becomes difficult to express another image when the point-of-view has been changed. The OCC map is segmented according to the objects that form the environment and the depth value is set by the characteristics of the classified objects for the segmentation based modeling. This method can easily be implemented on an environment map and makes the environment modeling easier through extracting the depth value by the image segmentation. An environment navigation system with a full-view can be developed with these methods.
