본 연구는 공과대학 학생들이 배우는 전공영어로서의 특수목적영어(ESP)에 대해 코퍼스 기반 접근법의 유용성을 논하고자 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 공과대학에서 사용하는 전공텍스트를 코퍼스로 구축하여 컴퓨터에 기반한 분석에서 나온 결과들을 제시하면서 공학영어 코퍼스의 특성을 살펴보고 궁극적으로 영어매개수업을 듣는 공대학생들의 데이터 기반 학습에 일조하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 사용된 목표 코퍼스는 세부전공과 상관없이 공통적으로 적용되는 공학과목을 선정하여 구축되었고 비교대상인 참조 코퍼스는 British National Corpus를 사용하였다. 공학영어 코퍼스는 총 단어 180만개, 단어 유형 만 6천여개로 이루어졌고 코퍼스 분석도구인 AntConc 3.4.4를 이용하여 빈도 분석과 키워드 분석이 수행되었다. 고빈도수 어휘의 분석결과 목표 코퍼스와 참조 코퍼스에서 가장 빈번하게 나타나는 어휘군은 내용어(content words)보다는 기능어(function words) 형태가 많다는 점이 나타났고 내용어군만 분석결과 참조코퍼스에 비해 공학영어 코퍼스에 과학영역의 변이어가 많이 분포하고 있음이 드러났다. 또한 키워드 분석에서는 공학영어 코퍼스의 키워드 동사군이 전문적인 어휘(technical vocabulary)보다는 비전문적인 학술적 어휘(non-technical academic vocabulary)가 상대적으로 많이 분포되어 있음이 드러나 ESP교육을 실시함에 있어서 전공관련 전문영어와 함께 일반적인 학술 영어에 대한 인식을 고양해야 할 필요성이 대두된다.

최근 2018 동계올림픽을 비롯하여 동계 스포츠의 국제화에 대한 관심이 많고 특히 우리나라에서 강세를 보이는 빙상의 경우, 빙상 지도자의 영어 의사소통 능력이 특히 요구된다. 본 연구는 빙상 영어 수업에 대한 자기 인식 조사와 직무 분석을 실시하고 이에 대한 분석을 바탕으로 단기간에 효과적인 빙상 영어 수업을 제공할 수 있는 방법 제안을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 빙상 지도자 27명이 설문에 응하였다. 설문에 응한 빙상 지도자들은 대부분 본인의 영어 실력에 자신감이 없는 것으로 나타났고, 빙상 지도자들을 위한 영어 수업이 필요하다고 생각하고 있었으며, 빙상 지도자들을 위한 영어 수업은 말하기나 듣기에 초점을 둔 다양한 활동 중심의 수업을 원하였다. 이후 DACUM 위원회를 구성하여 영어가 필요한 직무들을 선정한 후 난이도와 필요 기능을 평가하였고, 빙상 지도자들을 대상으로 설문조사를 하였다. 빙상 지도자들의 직무별 영어 교육 필요성에 대한 설문 결과를 보면, '국제대회에서의 심판이나 의사소통,' '외국인 스키어들과 대화/정보교류,' '기술지도' 임무에서 가장 많은 영어가 필요하다고 생각하는 것을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this paper is to suggest a proposal for the betterment of the English curriculum in the Department of Tourism of a women's college. The paper includes not only the needs analysis of students but also that of personnel officers of tourism related companies and offices. Since the students will have to look for desirable jobs after graduation, the needs and demands of their potential employers or personnel officers are crucial in deciding what and how to teach. Based on these analyses, the paper also examines the current curriculum offered by the department. The needs, wants and necessities of the students, potential personnel officers, and the current curriculum will have to be taken into consideration in designing a more effective future curriculum. The results of the study reveal that more emphasis should be given on the improvement of students' communicative abilities and TOEIC scores.

Objectives: This study analyzes the demands of dental hygiene college students for English courses and proposes ways to improve English courses for college students majoring in dental hygiene that would take advantage of English for specific purposes (ESP) in the future. Methods: Using a structured questionnaire, four universities by region with departments of dental hygiene were selected at random, and out of a total of 260 college students majoring in dental hygiene, data of 258 students, excluding data with missing values, were considered for investigating the needs of English curriculum development using the SPSS program. Results: Total 82.1% of the students expected English programs, and they said that English was important, The proposal for English curriculum development indicated that although the number of English programs was sufficient, diversification of English programs or changes in methods of managing classes were required. As for the need for English programs (66.4%), they required more ESP, such as practical English for dental or dental terminology, which can be used clinically and more than English for general purposes (EGP). Conclusions: Students in dental hygiene showed a higher demand for more professional ESP that can use clinically as dental hygienists in the future. It is necessary to consider the reorganization of the curriculum or changes in the method of managing English classes by reflecting one demands of dental hygiene students.

본 연구는 (1) 2018 평창 동계 올림픽 영어 교육 준비 실태를 파악하고 (2) 영어 교육 활성화를 위한 영어 교육 프로그램에 대한 요구를 파악하여, 국제 스포츠행사를 위한 효과적인 영어교육 방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여 국제스포츠 행사 교육 관리 관계자와 전화 인터뷰를 하거나 자료를 제공받았고 그 결과, 조직위에서는 2018 평창동계올림픽대회 관계자 영어 교육 프로그램을 진행 중이며, 강릉시에서는 글로벌리더나 통역봉사단 등을 대상으로 하는 교육과 일반 시민을 대상으로 하는 교육으로 나누어 언어 교육을 진행하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 강릉시 글로벌리더 양성과정에 참여하고 있는 학습자들과 최근 국제 스포츠 행사에 자원봉사자로 참여한 26명을 대상으로 국제 스포츠 행사 영어 교육을 위한 설문을 한 결과, 국제 스포츠 행사와 관련된 내용을 가르치는 영어교육 수업이나 이에 가장 적합한 수업 방법에 대한 요구가 크다는 것을 알 수 있었다, 따라서 본 연구에서는 영어 잘하는 사람들을 최대한 잘 활용하기 위해 DB구축을 체계적으로 잘하고, 이들이 선발된 이후에는 단기간 동안 본인이 맡은 봉사 직무에 바로 활용할 수 있는 영어교육을 제공받을 수 있도록 해야 할 것이며, 이를 위해서는 이에 적합한 교수법과 교수 내용을 개발할 필요가 있다고 제언한다.

21세기가 요구하는 다면적이고 복합적인 역량을 갖추게끔 학생들을 교육하는 것은 대학의 의무 중의 하나이다. 따라서 학과의 전공과목과 연계하여 다양한 역량이 배양될 수 있도록 하는 노력이 필요하다. 본 연구는 이런 노력의 하나로 '비즈니스 영어' 전공과목에 문제중심학습을 적용하였다. 학생들이 문제중심학습을 수행하면서 인식하는 학습 경험에 초점을 맞추어 자기평가 형태의 설문조사를 실시함으로써, '비즈니스 영어' 수업에 문제중심학습을 적용시키는 것의 유용성을 탐색해보고자 하였다. 조사 결과를 분석한 결과 다음의 세 가지를 확인할 수 있었다. 첫째, 문제중심학습 상황에서 직업기초능력에 해당되는 핵심역량이 배양될 가능성이 높았다. 둘째, 비즈니스 전문지식 습득과 영어 학습에 긍정적 영향을 끼쳐 학업성취에 있어서도 유용한 효과를 나타낼 수 있는 것으로 보였다. 셋째, 문제중심학습에 대한 학생들의 만족도는 보통 이상이었다. 본 연구는 특수목적영어인 '비즈니스 영어'에 문제중심학습을 도입하여 학업성취와 더불어 다양한 핵심역량의 증진 가능성을 보여주었다는 데 의의가 있다.

The existence of appropriate teaching materials in foreign language is very essential especially if it is related to safety. Among them, the importance of textbooks is more emphasized because there is no suitable education or curriculum for EPTA (English proficiency test of aviation). A good textbook not only presents the right direction to study but also provides an efficient way to learn. This research exploded how well textbooks for EPTA are organized and analyzed current pilots' responses whether the textbooks are suitable for preparing EPTA through the questionnaire. The conclusion drawn is that textbooks for EPTA should be designed to encourage current and pre-pilots to learn how to communicate with controllers efficiently and briefly, and also should provide proper guide lines for preparing EPTA.

본 연구는 한국 대학에서 외국어로서의 영어교육 환경에서 다수준 수업을 진행하는 강사들의 다수준 수업에 대한 인식과 각기 다른 영어 능력과 교육적 요구가 있는 학생들을 가르칠 때 강사들이 활용한 교수전략에 대해서 알아보고자 한다. 이를 위해 한국의 한 대학에서 교양영어수업을 담당하는 스무 명의 교수자가 설문지에 참여하였고, 그 중 세 명은 후속 면담에 참여하였다. 설문지와 후속 면담의 결과에 따르면 교수자들이 인식한 다수준 수업의 경험은 긍정적이었다. 교수자들은 학생들을 동기부여하기 위해서 수업 참여에 대한 명확한 지침을 제시하였고, 그룹 활동을 통해 높은 수준의 학생들이 낮은 수준의 학생들을 도울 수 있다는 점을 알게 되었다. 또한 학생들의 다수준 수업에서 학생들의 교육적 요구를 만족시키기 위해서 특수목적영어교육이 필요할 것 같다고 하였다.

This paper presents a comparative study on the effectiveness of teaching an engineering course using English with Specific Purpose(ESP). A study was performed using student groups; one class using ESP, and one class conducted in English with an English text. The course conducted using ESP showed the greatest improvement in English writing and conversation, and the students reported a greatly increased confidence in their ability to function professionally using English. A self-assessment of each student was conducted before and after the courses. Prior to the course less than 10% in each group felt that they are able to: a) understand a textbook, b) write an email, c) generate a project report, or d) follow a lecture given in English. The survey at the end of the course showed that the ESP teaching style resulted in significant improvements in students ability and confidence with writing and speaking in English, whereas reading skills were similar for both groups. This is due to the ESP method, in which students are required to give presentations and keep journals in English. After a brief review of the ESP principles and a discussion of how they were implemented, the background data of the participants(students) are described. Finally, the end-of-semester survey highlights the efficacy of the ESP approach.

다문화 가정 구성원은 언어 차이 때문에 자녀 교육에서 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이와 같은 어려움을 해결하기 위해서는 실생활에 필요한 한국어 용어들을 간편하고 신속하게 접근할 수 있는 스마트 번역 서비스를 이들에게 제공할 필요가 있다. 그러나 현재의 자동 번역 기술은 영어, 중국어, 일본어 등의 주요 국가 언어 중심으로 개발 되고 있으며, 자녀의 교육, 공공기관과의 소통 등 특수 목적의 용어들은 번역하기에는 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 초급 수준의 한국어를 이해하고 있는 다문화가정 구성원을 위한 실시간 자동 어휘대역어 서비스를 제안한다. 어휘대역어 서비스는 한국어 문장에 표현된 각 단어들의 의미를 자동으로 분석하여 다국어 대역어를 제공한다. 이를 위하여 한국어 의미분석 연구, 다국어 번역지식 구축 연구, 언어교육 연구의 융합연구를 수행하였다. 어휘대역서비스를 베트남, 일본 출신의 결혼이주여성을 대상으로 평가하여 의미있는 평가결과를 얻었다.
