Comparative Analysis on Special Teachers' Perception toward Virtual Reality based Intervention Program for students with disabilities (장애학생을 위한 가상현실 기반 중재프로그램에 대한 특수교사의 인식 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze special teachers' perception on virtual reality based intervention program.(VRIP) for students with disabilities. The survey participants consisted of 364 special teachers who were working in special class or special school. Questionnaires with unfaithful responses were excluded, and a total of 324 questionnaires were analyzed. Data analysis was carried out through independent t-test and ANOVA. According to the results of study, Male special teachers' acceptance intention towards VRIP were higher than female special teachers. Special teachers with educational career within 10 years had more positive awareness than special teachers with educational career above 15 years. Special teachers in middle and high school teachers were higher than special teachers in kindergarten. In the aspects on another factors, special teachers with educational career within 10 years more positive awareness than special teachers with educational career above 15 years. Special teachers in middle and high school teachers were higher than special teachers in kindergarten.

A Study on the 4th Industrial Revolution in the View of Special Educational Teachers (특수교사들의 관점에서 바라보는 4차 산업혁명)

  • This study is to examine the awareness of the 4th industrial revolution among special educational teachers as a preliminary study to explore the future special educational should continue forward in this new period. For the purposes of this study, a survey was conducted focusing on 117 special educational teachers in Korea. The major results were presented as follow. special educational teachers recognized that "the 4th industrial revolution" will have a positive effects on the special education, However, the level of understanding and interest in this was low. Moreover, Special teachers learned about 4th Industrial Revolution mainly through TV and media, recognized the needs for expert education on the fourth industrial revolution. Special teachers recognized that the Fourth Industrial Revolution was necessary for special education but was not realistically prepared. Special teachers said that programs for special education should be developed and distributed based on the 4th Industrial Revolution. In conclusion, The study is meaningful in understanding the Fourth Industrial Revolution from the perspective of special teachers and in providing basic evidence to support special education.

Beginning Special Education Teachers' Experience of Intervention and Awareness of Positive Behavior Support (초임 특수교사들의 행동중재 경험과 긍정적 행동지원에 대한 인식)

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the experience for behavior intervention and awareness of positive behavior support among beginning special education teachers. For this, 5 special education teachers with less than 2 years of experience participated in this research. One-on-one in-depth interviews were carried out with them, and all interview results were transcribed and analyzed according to the constant comparison method resulted in 4 major themes follows: 'motivation', 'a series of choice', 'regret for intervention' and 'awareness of Positive Behavior Support'. also, 9 sub themes follows: 'educational needs', 'living needs', 'starting intervention', 'process of intervention', 'results of intervention', lack of resources', 'lack of communication', 'new attempts', 'new areas'. During a discussion, requests for behavior intervention and awareness of positive behavior support, which had been drawn in the research results, were discussed, and the limitation of this research was suggested.

A study on the Management Status of Free Semester in Special Schools and Special Teachers' Awareness (특수학교 자유학기제 운영 실태 및 특수교사의 인식)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the management status of free semester in special schools and special school teachers' awareness. Method: For this investigation, twnety five special schools that offers the free semester in 2017 were selected as subjects of this study and the questionnaire surveys were implemented on special school teachers from two metropolitan cities and six cities, together with the analysis based on 218 surveys. The questionnaire consisted of basic information about teachers, performance levels of special school free semester, and awareness about the management status of free semester for special school. Results: The results of the statistical analysis of the free semester operations plan and the collected data are as follows. First, the number of lessons per week in the free semester did not change much, but the number of lessons in the basic subjects was significantly reduced for the free semester. Second, the performance levels of the special school free semester was found to be average level, There was a high level of awareness of club activities and curriculum administration in the sub - areas of free semester activities, and the recognition level of topic selection activities was a little low. Third, the overall level of awareness of special education teachers about the operation of special school free semester is above the average level. Especially, the level of awareness about the operation plan and the application of the program was high, and the operating environment and the effect of the result were a little low. Conclusion: The results of this study are compared with the previous studies and discussions for efficient management of special school free semester were discussed in the discussion.

The Effects of Special Teachers' Work-Life Balance on Happiness: Focused on the Mediating Effects of Resilience (특수교사의 일-삶 균형이 행복감에 미치는 영향: 회복탄력성의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the special teachers' perception on work-life balance, happiness, and resilience and the mediating effects of resilience. Method: A survey of 213 special teachers was conducted to ask them about their perception of work-life balance, happiness and resilience. Results: First, the level of work-life balance of special teachers was work-family balance(3.37±.73), work-leisure balance(3.18±.99), work-growth balance(3.12±.94). Second, the level of happiness of special teachers was internal happiness(3.77±.74), external happiness(3.68±.69), self-regulative happiness(3.12±.80). Third, the level of resilience of special teachers was positivity(3.65±.62), interpersonal relationship (3.54±.51), self-regulation(3.33±.59). Fourth, the direct effects of the work-life balance on the happiness of special teachers was significant, and that resilience represented the relationship between work-life balance and happiness in part. Conclusion: Based on findings of the study, the basic data needed to explore ways to improve the work-life balance, happiness and resilience of special teachers were utilized as basic data, and the implications needed to establish an educational environment in pursuit of happiness in the school field were derived.

The Recognition of Special Teachers for Early Childhood about the Guarantee of Rights of Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities (유아특수교사의 장애영유아 권리보장에 대한 인식)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there are any differences in the recognition of the level of the guarantee of the rights of infants and toddlers according to the teachers' variables(gender, age, working experience) and institutional variables (institution type, establishment type, scale, area). We surveyed 365 special education teachers and found out differences. The results are as follows. First, there was no difference in the recognition according to gender. Second, there was no difference in the recognition according to age. Third, there was no difference in the recognition by working experience. Fourth, the recognition by type of educational institution showed that there were differences in the ambit of rights to life, protection, development, and participation. Fifth, the recognition according to the establishment type showed there were differences in the rights to life and development. On the other hand, there was no difference in the rights to protection and participation. Sixth, there were differences in the recognition about the rights to life, protection, development, and participation according to the scale of the education institutions. Seventh, there were no differences in the region. The results of this study can be used as basic data for establishing policy for the promotion of educational rights for infants with disabilities.

Study on application of information and communication technology in special education (특수교사들의 정보통신기술 활용에 관한 실태 및 인식)

  • We conducted a survey methodology to study current state of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) application for teachers in special education. The analysis of 103 sample data shows the media type and usage frequency, the reason of ICT application, the awareness of ICT training program necessity and the detail training program. We divided two groups by work experience in education based on time when ICT curriculum adapted in special education department. The several differences of ICT usage and skill levels in managing ICT of two groups are statistically significant.

Metaphor of Special Education Teachers on Free Semester in Special Schools (특수학교 자유학기제에 대한 특수교사의 메타포)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate metaphors on free semester of special schools of the special education teachers, to categorize the metaphors and then, to explore differences according to variables of special education teachers. Method: 123 special education teachers described the metaphoric meaning on free semester of special schools and the ground using open-ended questions. The collected data were analyzed through four steps: coding, metaphor classification, category development and subject naming, validity and reliability review, and quantitative analysis. Results: First, the metaphors were categorized by 4 subjects such as 'journey for my dream', 'routines not different yesterday', 'object of study', and 'far-off hope'. Second, there were statistically significant differences on recognition on subjects according to teacher training experiences of special education teachers. In particular, the teachers who have experienced on teacher trainings thought of free semester as journey for my dream while the teachers who have not experienced on teacher trainings thought of it as 'object of study' Conclusion: Based on these results, the practical approaches to implement the ideal free semester of special schools were suggested.

Developing and Exploring the Possibility of Virtual Reality Based Communication Training Program for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (지적장애 학생을 위한 가상현실 기반 의사소통 프로그램 개발 및 적용 가능성 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and to explore the possibility of the virtual reality based communication training program(VR-CTP) for students with intellectual disabilities. To do this, sentences and dialogue of program were extracted from the National Common Basic Curriculum of Special School and the contents design of program were developed based on the consultation by special education experts. To explore the possibility of applying the VR-CTP, a usability evaluation was conducted with 30 special school teachers and 44 students with intellectual disabilities. The results showed that the VR-CTP had a high level of usability as the special school teachers received 4.23 and the students with intellectual disabilities received 4.44 out of 5. But there is no difference of usability evaluation on the special teachers' school level and teaching experiences without arrangement of school. Also, there is no difference of usability evaluation on the students' IQ, school level, and arrangement of school. As a result of this study, we can draw a conclusion that there is a possibility of applying the VR-CTP to language education for students with intellectual disabilities.

The Effect of 「Introduction to Special Education」 on the Understanding of Integrated Education and the Performance of Integrated Education of Elementary School Pre-service Teachers (특수교육학개론 수강이 초등예비교사들의 통합교육 인식과 통합교육 수행 능력 인식에 미치는 영향)

  • In the university of education that trains teachers, elementary school pre-service teachers understand the importance of integrated education and complete 「Introduction to Special Education」 as an essential subject for teaching knowledge so that they can perform integrated education well in the school field. Therefore, this paper has examined whether elementary school pre-service teachers understand integrated education well through 「Introduction to Special Education」 and whether their ability to perform integrated education has improved. In this study, 55 fourth-grade students taking 「Introduction to Special Education」 at the university of education were selected as experimental groups and questioned their understanding of integrated education and their ability to perform integrated education twice before and after taking the class. The research results are as follows: First, the perception of elementary school pre-service teachers about the integrated education changed statistically significantly and positively in all areas and points. And next, the ability of elementary school pre-service teachers to conduct the integrated education improved statistically significantly. These findings show that elementary school pre-service teachers can better understand integrated education and provide a foundation for conducting integrated education well in the field by completing 「Introduction to Special Education」 at universities.
