  • A blind video watermarking scheme for providing safety, authenticity, and copyright protection is proposed in this paper, which is robust to MPEG-4 SVC and multimedia transcoding. In proposed method, embedding and detecting of watermark is performed based on base layer with considering spatial SVC. To be robust from temporal SVC, our method embeds repeatedly a permutated character with ordering number per one frame. Also for robustness from multimedia transcoding and FGS, the method is embedded watermark in low middle frequency of each frame adaptively based on DCT in ROI. Through experimental results, invisibility of the watermark is confirmed and robustness of the watermark against the spatial SVC, temporal SVC, FGS and video transcoding between MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 SVC is also verified.

  • This paper proposed two transcodiing methods, which maintain the same spatio-temporal resolution and reduce a spatial resolution, to convert a H.264 video bitstream into an MPEG-4 video bitstream. When the H.264 video bitstream is transformed into the MPEG-4 video bitstream, the conversions between H.264 block types and MPEG-4 block types are performed by minimizing distortion and the ${\times}4$ block-based motion vector mapping is performed. The proposed two transcoding methods run 4.14~5.1 times as fast as the cascaded transcoding methods in MPEG-4 encoder side, while the PSNR (peak-signal-to ratio) is slightly degrade with maximum 0.3dB.

  • In this paper, we propose a new trnascoding method for improving picture's visual quality when frames are skipped. the proposed method utilizes the relationships of motion vectors between successive frames, and 4 motion vectors a macroblock are considered in transcoding. Since the proposed method does not require any decoding process of encoded bit stream, the computational complexity for estimating motion vectors can be eliminated. Experimental results illustrated that as transcoded frames are getting far from I pictures and as the degree of motions in video sequences are getting higher, the picture quality by using our proposed method shows better performances than existing schemes.

  • Transcoding video proxy is necessary to support various bandwidth requirements for mobile multimedia and to provide adapting video streams to mobile clients. Caching algorithms for proxy are to reduce the network traffic between the content servers and the proxy. This paper proposes a Meta-tailed caching for transcoding proxy that is efficient to lower network load and CPU load. Caching of two different data types - transcoded video, and metadata - provides a foundation to achieve superior balance between network resource and computation resource at transcoding proxies. Experimental results show that the Meta-tailed caching lowers at least 10% of CPU-load and at least 9% of network-load at a transcoding proxy.

  • In this paper, we present a transcoding algorithm for converting an MPEG-2 video bitstream to an H.264 bitstream. The proposed transcoder consists of two parts. One is MPEG2 decoding part and the other is H.264 encoding part Because our algorithm is for transcoding in the spatial domain, MPEG2 decoding part carries out full decoding of MPEG2 bitstream. While, because macroblock type and coded block pattern in MPEG2 are significantly related to macroblock mode in H.264, macroblock mode is selected adaptively according to macroblock type and coded block pattern in H.264 decoding part. Furthermore, motion vector is also used as side-information for 16$\ctimes$16 macroblock mode. Simulation results show that the proposed transcoder yields high reduction of total transcoding time at comparable PSNR.

  • In this paper, we propose a content-based MPEG transcoding method using a discontinuity feature in the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) domain. A DCT block is transcoded differently depending on the height of dominant discontinuity within a block. In the experiment, we show the result that the video quality of content-based transcoding is better than that of a constant cut-off method and the processing time of the adaptive method is much faster compared with the pixel domain methods in the same bandwidth.

  • This paper proposes a new scheduling technique to play multimedia data streams in mobile terminals. The paper explores the characteristics of multimedia data streams , firstly. On basis of these characteristics, selection of specific data stream can be possible as well as transcoding protest. Our approach aims at reducing the early-stage delay time more effectively since it makes possible to select and transcodes some specific streams by employing a selection policy rather than transcoding all streams in the playing process Thus, this paper suggests a stream selection policy for the transcoding based on EPOB (End Point of Over Bandwidth). It aims to lower the required bandwidth of multimedia streams than the network bandwidth level and also to minimize early-stage delay time for multimedia streams, which is to be played in mobile terminals.

  • Most of the multimedia contents for DBM services art provided as MPEG-2 bit streams. However, they have to be transcoded to H.264 bit streams for practical services because the standard video codec for DMB is H.264. The existing transcoder architecture is Cascaded Pixel-Domain Transcoding Architecture, which consists of the MPEG-2 dacoding phase and the H.264 encoding phase. This architecture can be easily implemented using MPEG-2 decoder and H.264 encoder without source modifying. However. It has disadvantages in transcoding time and DCT-mismatch problem. In this paper, we propose two kinds of transcoder architecture, DCT-OPEN and DCT-CLOSED, to complement the CPDT architecture. Although DCT-OPEN has lower PSNR than CPDT due to drift problem, it is efficient for real-time transcoding. On the contrary, the DCT-CLOSED architecture has the advantage of PSNR over CPDT at the cost of transcoding time.

  • The recent advance in wireless network technologies has enabled the streaming media service on the mobile devices such as PDAs and cellular phones. Since the wireless network has low bandwidth channels and mobile devices are actually composed of limited hardware specifications, the transcoding technology is needed to adapt streaming media to given mobile devices. Futhermore owing to the diversity of bandwidth in the wireless network by reason of mobile users' movements and environments, it is difficult to provide stable QoS. In this paper, the autonomic multimedia transcoding system is proposed in order for users to provide network adaptive QoS. Our proposed system is based on the estimation of available bandwidth in wireless network for seamless multimedia streaming service. The proposed system is designed and implemented for various mobile clients. In experiments, we evaluate its seamless multimedia streaming and the adaptation transcoding bit rate according to the changes of bandwidth in wireless network.

  • Developing wireless internet service and mobile devices, mechanisms for web service across are various. However, the existing web infrastructure and content were designed for desktop computers and arc not well-suited for other types of accesses, e.g. PDA or mobile Phone that have less processing power and memory, small screens, limited input facilities, or network bandwidth etc. Thus, there is a growing need for transcoding techniques that provide that ability to browse the web through mobile devices. However, previous researches on existing web contents transcoding are service provider centric, which does not accurately reflect the user's continuously changing interest. In this paper, we presents a transcoding technique involved in making existing news contents based on XML available via customized wireless service, mobile phone.
