Development of MPLS TE Management on SNMP (SNMP 기반 MPLS TE 관리 기능 개발)

  • 최근 비연결지향형(Connectionless)의 IP 상에 연결지향형(Connection-oriented)의 LSP 를 지원하는 MPLS(Multi-Protocol Label Switching) 서비스에 대한 관심이 증가되고 있다. 이는 트래픽 엔지니어링(TE: Traffic Engineering)과 Qos(Quality of Service) 제공 등의 향상된 서비스에 대한 요구사항이 증가하면서, 이에 적합한 차세대 인터넷 서비스의 효율적인 제공 방안으로 IETF 에서 표준화하고 있는 MPLS 기술이 대두되고 있기 때문이다. 이러한 사용자의 요구사항을 만족하기 위하여 한국전자통신 연구원에서는 ACE2000 MPLS 시스템을 개발했으며, 초고속망에 적용되는 MPLS 시스템을 관리하기 위한 관리 시스템을 개발하였다. 본 논문에서는 SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol) 기반의 MPLS 망 관리 시스템과 트래픽 엔지니어링 관리 기능을 중심으로 관리 대상, 관리 수행 절차 등을 설명한다.

인터넷 Core 망 표준 기술 동향

  • 최근 인터넷 트래픽이 급증함에 따라 IP 패킷 전달의 중추를 담당하는 코아망(또는, 백본망)이 새롭게 만족시켜야 할 요구사항 들이 대두되었다. 이에는 고속 패킷 전달과 QoS(Quality of Service)의 보장이라는 이미 잘 알려진 대표적 두 요구사항 외에, Scalability(확장성), 새로운 라우팅 기능 및 트래픽 엔지니어링 등의 요구사항이 포함된다. 본고에서는 이와 같은 인터넷 백본망의 새로운 요구사항을 먼저 살펴보고, 최근 IETF[1]를 중심으로 활발히 표준화 되고 있는 IP 패킷 전달 프로토콜 들의 간략한 개요와 이들의 백본망 요구사항 충족도를 분석한다. 본 고의 분석 대상 프로토콜은 세가지 대표적인 ATM 기반 프로토콜과 Multiprotocol Label Switching 그리고 Differentiated Services이다. 끝으로, 향후 코아망 프로토콜의 발전 전망을 간략히 기술한다.

  • Future Internet should support more efficient mobility management, flexible traffic engineering and various emerging new services. So, lots of traffic engineering techniques have been suggested and developed, but it's impossible to apply them on the current running commercial Internet. To overcome this problem, OpenFlow protocol was proposed as a technique to control network equipments using network controller with various networking applications. It is a software defined network, so researchers can verify their own traffic engineering techniques by applying them on the controller. In addition, for high-speed packet processing in the OpenFlow network, programmable NetFPGA card with four 1G-interfaces and commercial Procurve OpenFlow switches can be used. In this paper, we implement an OpenFlow test-bed using hardware-accelerated NetFPGA cards and Procurve switches on the KREONET, and implement CSPF (Constraint-based Shortest Path First) algorithm, which is one of popular QoS routing algorithms, and apply it on the large-scale testbed to verify performance and efficiency of multimedia traffic engineering scheme in Future Internet.

On-line Prediction Algorithm for Non-stationary VBR Traffic (Non-stationary VBR 트래픽을 위한 동적 데이타 크기 예측 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we develop the model based prediction algorithm for Variable-Bit-Rate(VBR) video traffic with regular Group of Picture(GOP) pattern. We use multiplicative ARIMA process called GOP ARIMA (ARIMA for Group Of Pictures) as a base stochastic model. Kalman Filter based prediction algorithm consists of two process: GOP ARIMA modeling and prediction. In performance study, we produce three video traces (news, drama, sports) and we compare the accuracy of three different prediction schemes: Kalman Filter based prediction, linear prediction, and double exponential smoothing. The proposed prediction algorithm yields superior prediction accuracy than the other two. We also show that confidence interval analysis can effectively detect scene changes of the sample video sequence. The Kalman filter based prediction algorithm proposed in this work makes significant contributions to various aspects of network traffic engineering and resource allocation.

Label Assignment Schemes for MPLS Traffic Engineering (MPLS 트래픽 엔지니어링을 위한 레이블 할당 방법)

  • In this paper, label assignment schemes considering the IP flow model for the efficient MPLS traffic engineering are proposed and evaluated. Based on the IP flow model, the IP flows are classified into transient flows and base flows. Base flows, which last for a long time, transmit data in high bit rate, and be composed of many packets, have good implications for the MPLS traffic engineering, because they usually cause network congestion. To make use of base flows for the MPLS traffic engineering, we propose two base flow classifiers and label assignment schemes where transient flows are allocated to the default LSPs and base flows to explicit LSPs. Proposed schemes are based on the traffic-driven label triggering method combined with a routing tabel. The first base flow classifier uses both flow size in packet counts and routing entries, and the other one, extending the dynamic X/Y flow classifier, is based on a cut-through ratio. Proposed schemes are shown to minimize the number of labels, not degrading the total cut-through ratio.

  • Wireless Internet is the network which provides wireless access in order to serve the Internet connections and data communication through the mobile handsets. To get efficient wireless access to the Internet, we need the WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) gateway that performs protocol translation and contents conversion between two different networks. We need the capacity dimensioning of the WAP gateway system in order to provide the wireless Internet service stably and cost-effectively. We also need the traffic engineering methods including traffic modelling and forecasting for the economical facility investment. The existing method of WAP gateway capacity dimensioning was intuitive and qualitative. But in this paper, we deal with the capacity dimensioning analytically and quantitatively on the basis of WAP traffic description parameters and traffic forecasting method.

  • 인터넷 데이터 트래픽의 증가로 인한 광 전달망에서의 효율적인 트래픽 이용에 대한 관심이 집중됨에 따라 제어평면상의 라우팅 및 시그널링 제공 방안에 관한 연구의 필요성이 대두 되고 있다. 광 네트워크의 시그널링 인터페이스 구조는 UNI와 NNI로 구분되며, 본 논문에서는 서브 네트워크간 인터페이스인 NNI 상에서의 신호/연결제어 경로를 만들기 위해 수행되는 CR-LDP 시그널링의 여러 기능과 메커니즘을 통해 NNI 에서의 sub-area 의 개념을 적용시킨 효율적인 광 전달망 내에서의 신호 프로토콜 제공 방안에 대해 연구하고, GMPLS의 시그널링 프로토콜중 CR-LDP 를 이용하여 트래픽 엔지니어링 지원 방안을 살펴봄으로써, NNI 내에서의 효과적인 시그널링 제공을 위한 연구 방안을 제안한다.

  • 네트워크상의 자원을 효율적으로 사용하기 위한 방범의 하나로 다중 경로 라우팅(multi-path routine)이 있다. 트래픽 엔지니어링(traffic engineering)을 위하여 다중 경로 라우팅을 이용하면 트래픽(traffic) 을 여러 경로로 분산 시켜 트래픽이 한 곳으로 집중하는 현상은 제거 할 수 있을 뿐 아니라 네트워크 상의 유휴자원을 효율적으로 사용할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서는MPLS환경 하에서 다중 경로 라우팅을 효율적으로 사용하기 위해 제안 되었던 알고리즘에 대하여 분석 하고 각 알고리즘들의 장단점을 비교한다. 그리고 효율적인 다중 경로 라우팅을 위해 추가적으로 필요한 요소를 기술하고, 새로운 다중 경로 라우팅을 위한 구조를 제안한다.

  • With the invention of MPLS and the Improvement in traffic engineering, multipath packet forwarding and dynamic load control has become a reality. A dynamic load control, while it can improve network efficiency by controlling loads between paths according to the network state, can lead to unstable and oscillating state because of the staleness of the state information. In this paper, we propose a efficient load control scheme which remains stable. The proposed scheme introduces prediction to reduce the staleness of state message and to prevent oscillation.

  • Internet is no longer a network for special communities but became a global means of communication infrastructure for everyday life. People are exchanging their personal messages using e-mails, students are getting their educational aids through the web, people are buying a variety of goods from cyber shopping malls, and companies are conducting their businesses over the Internet. Recently, such an explosive growth of the traffic in the Internet raised a big concern on how to accommodate ever-changing user's needs in terms of an amount of the traffic, characteristics of the traffic, and various service quality requirements, Over provisioning can be a simple solution but it is too expensive and inefficient. Thus many new technologies to solve this very difficult puzzle have bcen introduced recently, Any single solution, however, can be insufficient and a carefully designed architecture, which integrates a group of solutions, is required. In this paper, we propose a policy-based Internet QoS provisioning, traffic engineering and perfonnance management system as our solution to this problem. Our integrated management QoS solution can provide highly responsive flow-through service provisioning, more realistic service and resource policy control based on the real network performance information, and centralized control of traffic engineering for heterogeneous networks.
