투과증발 분리법에 의한 CMC/PVA blend막의 물/유기용제 혼합액의 분리특성

  • 투과증발 분리를 위하여 여러가지 막 소재와 공정을 개발하기 위한 노력이 다방면에서 이루어지고 있으며, 이에 관한 자료도 많이 제시되고 있으나 고분자 분리막의 개발은 아직도 미흡한 상태이다. 한편 투과증발 분리는 공정자체는 매우 간단하면서도 분리막의 투과성능에 따라 분리효율이 달라지기 때문에 여러종류의 막의 개발이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 물/유기용제 혼합액에서 물을 분리하기 위하여 친수성이 강한 두 고분자 재료인 poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)와 carboxymehtylcellulose(CMC)를 브랜드하여 목적하는 분리기능을 갖는 새로운 막을 제조하여, 물/유기용제, 혼합액의 분리특성을 브랜드비와 온도 및 농도 그리고 분리시간에 따라 각각 검토하였다.

  • 1. 서론 : 현재의 막분리 기술로는 단 단계 분리공정(single-stage separation)으로 약 40%의 산소농축공기(oxygen-enriched air)를 얻을 수 밖에 없지만 심냉법(cryogenic techniques)보다는 에너지 소비율이 적으며, 공정이 비교적 간단하기 때문에 용도에 따라 순 산소를 꼭 필요로 하지 않는 제철소, 발전소 등의 연소분야, 호흡기 환자를 위한 의료분야, 생물공학이나 항공기 분야 등에 편리하게 이용될 수 있다. 이와 같이 용도가 다양한 산소를 분리막을 이용하여 보다 편리하고 값싸게 얻기 위해서는 산소와 질소의 막투과에 대한 새로운 지식을 얻고 막투과가 기체의 어떤 성질에 지배되고 있는가를 조사할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 고무상 고분자막(rubbery polymer membrane)에 대한 산소/질소의 수착특성과 순수한 기체의 투과율(permeation rate)을 기초로 하여 혼합기체의 투과율, 분리인자(separation factor), 막분리 공정변수에 의한 중공사 분리막에서의 기체분리특성에 대하여 연구하였다.

Pervaporation Characteristics of Water/Ethanol Mixture through Hydrophilic Zeolite Membranes (친수성 제올라이트 분리막의 물/에탄올 투과증발 특성)

  • Zeolite membranes show better thermal, mechanical, chemical stabilities than polymer membranes. Water was separated from water/ethanol mixtures by pervaporation using the NaA and the NaY zeolite membranes synthesized in our laboratory. The effects of concentration of ethanol at the feed side and temperature were studied on the permeation flux and separation factor of water. The separation factors obtained with the NaA zeolite membrane was found to be 1000 times higher than those obtained with the NaY. However, the water flux through the NaA zeolite membrane was observed to be lower than 1/2 of that through the NaY zeolite membrane.

  • Various charged homogeneous membranes were fabricated by blending of ionic polymer with a non-ionic polymer with different ratios. In this study. sodium alginate, chitosan and poly(vinyl alcohol) were employed as anionic. cationic and non-ionic polymers, respectively. The permcation and separation behaviors of aquCOll::; salt solutions have been investigated through the charged membranes. As the content of ionic polymer increases in the membrane, the hydrophilicity of the membrane increases and pure water flux as well as solution flux increases correspondingly, indicating that the permeation performance through the membrane is cletemunecl mainly by its hydrophilicity-, Electrostatic interaction between the charged membrane and ionic solute molecules, that is. Donnan exclusion was observed to be attributed to salt rejection to a great deal of extent, and molecular sieve mechanism was effective [or the separation of the salt solution under a similar electrostatic circumstance of solutes.

  • 1. 서론 : 폴리이미드는 우수한 기계적 강도와 열적, 화학적 안정성으로 인해 최근 막분리 재료로 많이 연구 검토되고 있다. 대부분의 폴리이미드는 비교적 높은 선택도를 가지고 있으나 투과계수가 떨어지는 단점을 지니고 있어소 이를 극복하기 위한 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 그 결과 투과계수를 크게 증가시킨 폴리이미드를 함성하였으나 선택도는 감소하여 투과특성의 상위한계를 넘지는 못하였다. 이 한계를 극복하기 의해서 복합잴를 이용하거나 UV, 플라즈마 처리에 의한 고분자막의 수식 등 많은 방법들이 연구되고 있다. 본 연구는 NaX형 제올라이트를 폴리이미드에 혼화시킨 막으로 산소/질소의 분리투과특성의 개선을 시도하였으며, NaX형 제올라이트와 폴리이미드 혼화방법, 혼화비율 등이 기체투과특성에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 본 실험에 사용된 NaX형 제올라이트는 직접 합성하여 사용하였다. 폴리이미드는 2,3,5,6-Tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine(p-TeMPD)과 (3,3,4,4'-dicarboxyphenyl)-hexafluoropropene-dianhydride(6FDA)로 합성한 6FDA-p-TeMPD 폴리이미드를 사용하였고, 그 투과계수는 122Barrer, 선택도$\alpha$$_{N_2/O_2}$ = 3.4이다.

Physicochemical Effect on Permeate Flux in a Hybrid Ozone-Ceramic Ultrafiltration Membrane Treating Natural Organic Matter (자연유기물을 처리하는 혼합 오존-세라믹 한외여과 시스템에서 물리화학적 특성이 투과플럭스에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of operational conditions and solution chemistry on permeate flux in a hybrid ozone-ceramic ultra-filtration (UF) membrane system treating natural organic matter (NOM) were investigated. Results showed that the extent of permeate flux decline was higher at higher cross-flow velocity and ozone dosage, but it was higher at lower transmembrane pressure (TMP). The mechanism of fouling mitigation was found to be more dependent upon reaction between ozone and natural organic matter at/near catalytic membrane surface than scouring effect due to ozone gas bubbles. Addition of calcium into model NOM solution at high pH led to significant decline in permeate flux while the calcium effect on permeate flux decline was less pronounced at lower pH. After permeate flux decline during the early stage of filtration, the flux started recovering and approached fully to the initial value of it due to degradation of NOM by catalytic ozonation at ceramic membrane surface in the hybrid ozone-ceramic membrane system.

  • 1. 서론 : 공기의 산소/질소 분리용 고분자막은 높은 선택도와 높은 투과도를 동시에 요구한다. 이 두가지 조건을 만족시키는 새로운 소재 개발과 기존의 고분자물질을 수식하는 연구가 진행되고 있으나 trade-off 현상으로 인하여 선택도가 증가되면 투과계수가 감소되고, 투과계수가 증가되면 선택도가 감소되는 경향이 있다. 다공성 지지체의 표면에 selective thin layer를 coating한 복합막은 투과저항을 줄여 투과속도는 증가시킬 수 있으나 선택도는 고분자 고유의 80%정도까지 감소되는 것으로 알려져 있다.   • The effects of interactions between permeant molecules or permeant and membrane material have been investigated on the permeation behavior of permeants in pervaporation of water/alcohol mix¬tures. A poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) membrane crosslinked with glutaraldehyde was employed in this study. A homologous series of alcohols in aqueous solution were used as feed. The pervaporation experiments were carried out with feed having 70-97 wt.% of alcohol contents and at various feed temperatures. In a high alcohol content above 92 wt.%, the permeation rate was increased in the order of interaction strength between alcohol and water in feed. However, in a low alcohol content below 90 wt.%, the tendency of the permeation rate was found to be opposite. These observations were discussed in terms of changes in interaction between permeant/permeant or permeant/membrane in varying feed composition and feed temperature.

  • poly(acrylic acid)(PAA)-poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) membranes have been prepared by crosslinking reaction between the carboxylic acid groups of PAA and the hydroxylic groups of PVA. In the measurements of the swelling and preferential sorption of the membranes, sorption behaviors of the membranes in pure water, pure acetic acid and a mixture of them have been investigated, respectively. From the measurements of the preferential sorption in 90wt% acetic acid of aqueous mixture, the sorption of water component was found to be more enhanced at high PAA content in the membrane than that of acetic acid component due to the interaction of water with acetic acid. The sorption behavior and the degree of crosslinking influenced competitively the permeation behavior of permeants. Permeation behavior of perrecants through the membranes was analyzed by using permeation activation energies which had been obtained from the Arrhenius plots of fluxes.

  • Poly(ether-block-amide)(PEBA, $PEBAX^{TM}$) resin is a thermoplastic elastomer combining linear chains of hard-rigid polyamide block interspaced soft-flexible polyether block. It was believed that the hard polyamide block provides the mechanical strength and permeation selectivity, whereas gas transport occurs primarily through the soft polyether block. The objective of this work was to investigate the gas permeation properties of carbon dioxide and methane for $PEBAX^{TM}$-1657 membrane and compare with those obtained for other grade of $PEBAX^{TM}$, $PEBAX^{TM}$-2533. And the organic/inorganic hybrid membranes were prepared using $PEBAX^{TM}$ and TEOS(tetraethoxysilane) by sol-gel process, and gas permeation properties were studied. $PEBAX^{TM}$-2533 membrane exhibited higher gas permeability coefficients than $PEBAX^{TM}$-1657 membrane. This was explained by the increase of chain mobility. The permeability coefficients for $PEBAX^{TM}$/TEOS hybrid membranes were higher than pure $PEBAX^{TM}$ membranes. This results were explained by the reduction of crystallinity of polyamide block by the introduction of TEOS. Ideal separation factor of hybrid membranes does not change much. This might be due to the increase of solubility selectivity.
