The linkage framework of surface geometric modeling based on the NURBS and shell finite element analysis is developed in this study. In the geometrically exact shell finite element analysis, the accuracy of the analysis strongly depends upon the accurate computation of the surface geometric quantities. Therefore if we obtain the necessary geometric quantities from the NVRBS surface equation, it's possible to construct the effective linkage framework of surface modeling in the CAD systems and shell finite element analysis using geometrically exact shell finite element. Besides, the linkage framework can be applied to the analysis of general and complex surfaces as well as simple surfaces. In this study, the shell surfaces are generated by interpolating given set of data points based on the NURBS surfaces. These data points usually can be obtained from surface scanning. But the representations of the generated NURBS surface are not same to one another. The accuracy depends on the chosen parameterization methods used in NURBS. Therefore, it is needed to select the suitable parameterization method according to the geometry of the surfaces. To verify the performance and accuracy of our developed linkage framework, we solve several well-known benchmark problems and assess the performance of the developed method.

The softness of the crashpad part is one of the important factors which affect the interior perceived quality of the vehicle interior. And while improving the softness of the crashpad part, every effort to lower the production cost has been going on. The PU foaming process for the crashpad part depends on the understanding of a lot of processes, tools and material properties. Therefore, to achieve the requirement of the customer for the interior part's visual quality, the integrated design techniques are investigated to correlate the processes, tool design, material design and the computer aided analysis. In this paper, IMG (In Mold Grain) designed concept is firstly developed to integrate the skin preforming, plastic injection molding of the substrate and the foaming process in a tool within reduced processes. Through the application of this technology, softness of crashpad is improved by 40% compared to the conventional vacuum molding method, and the existing process is reduced by 50% by integrating the injection process and the manufacturing process. And by integrating the injection mold and the skin mold and removing the foaming mold, the number of molds are reduced from 3 to 1, resulting in 20% reduction in the cost of applying a medium-sized passenger car.

Structural analysis is used not only for large enterprises, but also for small and medium sized ones, as a necessary procedure for strengthening the certification process for product delivery and shortening the time in the process from concept design to detailed design. Open-source solvers that can be used atlow cost differ from commercial solvers. If there is a problem with the input data, such as with the grid, errors or failures can occur in the calculation step. In this paper, we propose a pre- and post-processor that can be easily applied to the analysis of mechanical structural problems by using the existing structural analysis open source solver (Caculix, Code_Aster). In particular, we propose algorithms for analyzing different types of data using open source solvers in order to extract and generate accurate information, such as 3D models, grids and simulation conditions, and develop and apply information analysis. In addition, to improve the accuracy of open source solvers and to prevent errors, we created a grid that matches the solver characteristics and developed an automatic healing function for the grid model. Finally, to verify the accuracy of the system, the verification and utilization results are compared with the software used.

Research into exhaust heat recovery has been actively carried out to improve the thermal efficiency of internal combustion engines. In this study, the performance of thermoelectric generation from exhaust heat recovery for motorcycle engines was analyzed by 1-D thermo-fluid simulation. GT-SUITE, which was developed by Gamma Tech., was used for the simulation of the internal combustion engine and thermoelectric generation system. The basic performance of the engine was analyzed in the range of engine speed of 1000~7000 rpm and engine load of 0~100%. The ratio of exhaust heat energy to fuel chemical energy was found to be about 40~60%. A combined simulation of the engine model and thermoelectric generation model was carried out to analyze the voltage, current and power generated by the thermoelectric material. The generation characteristics of the thermoelectric material was dominantly affected by the exhaust gas temperature. The maximum generated power of the current thermoelectric generation system was found to be about 2.2% of the total exhaust heat energy. The design optimization of the thermoelectric generation system will be carried out to maximize its power generation and economic feasibility.
An integrated process planning system can determine desirable operation sequences even if they have little experience in the design of multistage cold forging process. This system is composed of seven major modules such as input module, pre-design module, formability check module, forming sequence design module, forming analysis module, FEM verification module, and output module which are used independently or in all. The forming sequence for the part can be determined by means of primitive geometries such as cylinder, cone, convex, and concave. By utilizing this geometrical characteristics(diameter, height, and radius), the part geometry is expressed by a list of the primitive geometries. Accordingly, the forming sequence design is formulated as the search problem which starts with a billet geometry and finishes with a given product one. Using the developed system, the sequence drawing with all dimensions, which includes the dimensional tolerances and the proper sequence of operations for parts, is generated under the environment of AutoCAD. Several forming sequences generated by the planning system can be checked by the forming analysis module. The acceptable forming sequences can be verified further, using FE simulation.
The BIM techniques which manages information over the life cycle of construction project based on the 3-dimensional model are developing in the direction of integrated construction management including planning, design, analysis, estimation, 3D simulation and so on. The estimation model based on the BIM has different detail level and model information. In this study, the LOD of estimation model is catched for the bridge structures. The library classes are defined with construction information classification system, and the quantities of resources are calculated by class parameter using Microstation API. Finally, the automated estimation system using BIM based library is verified by the integrated model for adjustments of level of detail.

In this research, low fidelity air/heat load analysis was conducted for the intake of high speed vehicle. For air/heat load calculations, aerodynamic properties at the surface and the boundary layer edge were estimated using Taylor-Maccoll equation for conical flow, shockwave relation and Prandtl-Meyer expansion equation for internal and external flow. Couette flow assumption and Reynolds analogy were used in order to calculate convective heat transfer coefficient. In order to calculate skin friction coefficient for heat transfer coefficient analysis, Van Driest method II and Reference Enthalpy method were considered. An axis symmetric SCRAMJET model was selected as a reference configuration for verifying the proper implementation of the present method. Comparison of the results using the present method and Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis showed that the present method is valuable for efficiently providing pressure and heat loads for air-intake structure design of the high speed air vehicle.

Complete novel software for MDPS for the simulation and analysis is proposed for steering engineers. The software, MSAS, which can provide the functionality for MDPS Simulation, Analysis & Synthesis, is based on the steering system model, vehicle model and control logic. As the suppliers provide the control logic as a black box, this software is capable of using any type of black box logic or white box control logic that can be developed by logic designers. In addition, this software will be synthesized with the suppliers' s-function control logic and RMDPS together.

In this paper, a CAD/CAE integrated optimal design system is developed, in which design and analysis process is automated using CAD/CAE softwares for a complex model in which the modeling by parametric feature is not easy to apply. Unigraphics is used for CAD modeling, in which the process is automated by using UG/Knowledge Fusion for modeling itself and UG/Open API function for the other functions respectively. Structural analyses are also carried out automatically by ANSYS using the imported parasolid model. The developed system is applied for the PLS(Plasma Lighting System) consisting of more than 20 components, which is a next generation illumination system that is used to illuminate stadium or outdoor advertizing panel. The analyses include responses by static, wind and impact loads. As a result of analyses, tilt assembly, which is a link between upper and lower body, is found to be the most critical component bearing higher stresses. Experiment is conducted using MTS to validate the analysis result. Optimization is carried out using the software Visual DOC for the tilt assembly to minimize material volume while maintaining allowable stress level. As a result of optimization, the maximum stress is reduced by 57% from the existing design, though the material volume has increased by 21%.

High-speed/precision servomechanisms have been widely used in the manufacturing and semiconductor industries. In order to ensure the required high-speed and high-precision specifications in servomechanisms, an integrated design methodology is required, where the interactions between mechanical and electrical subsystems will have to be considered simultaneously. For the first step of the integrated design process, it is necessary to obtain not only strict mathematical models of separate subsystems but also formulation of an integrated design problem. A two-degree-of-freedom controller described in the discrete-time domain is considered as an electrical subsystem in this paper. An accurate identification process of the mechanical subsystem is conducted to verify the obtained mathematical model. Mechanical and electrical constraints render the integrated design problem accurate. Analysis of the system performance according to design and operating parameters is conducted for better understanding of the dynamic behavior and interactions of the servomechanism. Experiments are performed to verify the validity of the integrated design problem in the x-Y positioning system.
