The purpose of this study is to investigate the distinctiveness and problem areas in cataloging rules of printed music. In this study, therefore, the characteristics, kinds, and cataloging rules related to a printed music are examined first as the backgrounds. Then the sources of information, title and general material designation, musical representation statement, publication.distribution.etc., physical description, notes, etc. in ISBD(PM), Chapter 5 Music of AACR2R 2002 Revision 2004 Update, and Chapter 5 Music of KCR4 are analyzed. And also printed music parts in Bibliographic Data of KORMARC and MARC21 are analyzed. Finally, the special issues and some problems to be considered in cataloging of printed music in KCR4 are presented.

This paper studied the process of changes of the heading which is access point of the catalog in the cataloging Rules. The first described change of the concept of heading, and described change of headings in the Korean Cataloging Rules and Anglo-American Cataloging Rules And then described heading; in the online environment and future of cataloging rules. The concept of the main entry has lost any meaningful purpose in today's online catalog environment despite a multiplicity of definition. To bring cataloging rules up-to-date, Headings of KCR, AhCR2 Chapter 21, the MARC format and KORMARC format need to be revised The revision of this cataloging rules should be based on Hypertext and Hypermedia. A Continued empirical research would be most welcome, and should be incorporated into future cataloging rules.

본 연구에서는 기록물 자료를 관리 수 있는 메타데이터 형식을 설계하기 위해서 기록물의 목록 규칙과 관련된 네 가지 종류의 자료 즉 국제표준기록물기술$\ulcorner$ISAD(G)], 미국 기록물/필사본 기계가독목록(USMARC AMC), MARC21 및 EAD(Encoded Archival Description)를 참조한 다음 전통적인 도서관 자료와의 통합검색을 가능하게 하면서 기록물정보의 고유의 속성을 잘 표현할 메타데이터(목록 레코드와 인벤토리)를 설계하여 구현해 보았다.

Led by KIEP, this project to establish an Online Union Catalog System on Northeast Asia is the first such attempt to create a collaboration between social science libraries in Korea. This Online Union Catalog System is seen as a problem solving mechanism, as it helps to maximize efficiency in utilizing labor, finance, and data, by sharing library resources. This study focuses on the process of converting databases in a non-MARC format to a MARC format.

This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of the bibliographic description of ISBD Consolidated edition published in 2011 and to grasp the considerations in applying the rules of ISBD consolidated edition to KCR4. For achieving this, the four aspects were analyzed such as the description area and data elements, the resource types, the punctuation, and the order of the elements of ISBD Consolidated edition(2011). The characteristics of ISBD Consolidated edition are as follows. First, the content form and the media type area are added in new 0 area and elements are designated by mandatory to confirm to FRBR. Second, content form, content qualification and media type replaced GMD in title and statement of responsibility area. Third, the prescribed punctuations were retained even when this results in double punctuation, and individual square brackets were preferred than entire square brackets when using square brackets to all elements in same area. Fourth, the order of elements in description was set out by patterns of data elements in areas, therefore could reduce the confusion of the order of elements. ISBD Consolidated edition as an international standard would make various rules to maintain the uniformity, but also respects the bibliographic practices of individual countries. Therefore, each country must revise its own rule to conform the ISBD Consolidated edition as well as reflect its unique situation. In Korea, since KCR4 was developed based on the previous edition of ISBD, it should be revised to confirm to the ISBD Consolidated edition. Therefore, this study is expected to contribute to the revision of KCR4.

In this paper we outline the evolving process of the cataloguing rules in Korea focused on the standardization. We analyzed the new and updated rules under the KCR4( Korean Cataloguing Rules, 4th edition) in terms of usability of the catalogue. Our findings can be summarized as follows: 1) Since there are the rules of the unlimited number of the statement of responsibility, the access point is expanded and may bring the high searchability as a result, 2) Since the rules of the general material designations are added, the catalogue users may easily identify the material, 3) Since the rules of the material specific details area are added, the catalogue users may easily understand the characteristics and other features of a publication, 4) The KCR4 seems a kind of the integrated cataloguing rules for diverse types of materials including the monographs, 5) Since the rules of choice and forms of the access point treated in the authority control, there seem some Problems in usability of the catalogue, 6) The concept of the uniform heading is eliminated which seems considered only for the convenience of the cataloguers not for usability of the catalogue.

The KERIS Union Catalog is the largest bibliographic database in Korea. It has over 5.7 million bibliographic records and at present 330 university libraries are participating in shared cataloging services. The database, however, includes various errors and a large number of duplicate data because separate databases from many university libraries were merged without proper quality control in a short period. This study intends to find error data types by analyzing dissertation bibliographic data. The results show that error data are mainly caused by input errors, and the mistakes in using MARC formats and cataloging rules.
