  • Tool condition monitoring (TCM) is crucial for improvement of productivity in manufacturing process. However, TCM techniques have not been applied to monitor tool failure in an industrial gear shaving application. Therefore, this work studied a statistical TCM method for monitoring gear shaving tool condition. The method modeled the vibration signal of the shaving process using beta probability distribution in order to extract the effective features for TCM. Modeling includes rectifying for converting a bi-modal distribution into a unimodal distribution, estimating the parameters of beta probability distribution based on method of moments. The performance of features obtained from the proposed method was evaluated and discussed.

  • This paper is aimed at developing an location tracking system of mobile station based on currently available mobile communication network or mobile Phone and PCS(Personal Communication System). When the location tracking of mobile stations is in services, Emergency-119, all of crime investigation, effective urban traffic management and the safety protection of Alzheimer's patients can be available. In order to track the location of the mobile and base station, assumption in this paper is to use the statistic characteristics of LOS when modeling the standard noise in case that radio path is LNOS environment. The standard variation of the standard noise is $\pm150$. First, location is estimated by the positioning algorithms of TOA and TDOA and compared each other. Second, after canceling the standard noise by Kalman filter, location is estimated by the above two positioning algorithms. Finally, the location by the Kalman filter and two positioning algorithms is estimated by smoothing method. As a result, 2 dimensional average location error is imvoved by 51.2m in TOA and 34.8m in TDOA when Kalman filer and two positioning algorithms are used, compared with the two positioning algorithm used. And there is 3 more meter improvement after smoothing than Kalman filer and two positioning algorithms used.

  • Intelligent monitoring and diagnosis of production processes based on multivariate statistical methods has been one of important tasks for safety and quality issues. This is due to the fact that faults and unexpected events may have serious impacts on the operation of processes. This study proposes a diagnostic scheme based on effective representation of process measurement data and is evaluated using simulation process data. The effects of utilizing a preprocessing step and nonlinear statistical methods are also tested using fifteen faults of the simulation process. Results show that the proposed scheme produced more reliable results and outperformed other tested schemes with none of the filtering step and nonlinear methods. The proposed scheme is expected to be robust to process noises and easy to develop due to the lack of required rigorous mathematical process models or expert knowledge.

  • In the research area of estimation of the software development efforts, a number of researches have been accomplished in order to control the costs and to make software more competitive. However, most of them were restricted to the functional algorithm models or the statistic models. Moreover, since they are dealing with the cases of foreign countries, the results are hard to apply directly to the domestic environment for the efficient project management because of lack of accuracy, fitness, flexibility and portability. Therefore, it is appropriate to suggest and propose a new approach supported by artificial neural network which is composed of back propagation and feel-forward algorithms to improve the exactness of the efforts estimation and to advance practical uses. In this study, the artificial neural network approach is used to model the software cost estimation and the results are compared with the revised COCOMO and the multiregression model in order to validate the superiority of the model.

  • This study presents an application of GIS technologies to construct the graphic user interface for 3-dimensional exhibition of the results obtained by ocean hydrodynamic model. In coastal management studies, GIS provide a receptacle for scattered data from diverse sources and an improvement of the 3D visualization of such data. Within the frame of a GIS a variety of analytical, statistical and modeling tools can be applied to transform data and make them suitable for a given application. A 3D hydrodynamic model was driven by time-dependent external forcing such as tide, wind velocity, temperature, salinity, river discharge, and solar radiation under the open boundary condition. The Jinhae Bay was selected as a case study. Here, we have used GeoMania v2.5 GIS software and its 3D Analyst extension module to visualize hydrodynamic model result that were simulated around the Jinhae Bay.

  • In this paper, we propose a new methodology for extracting and formalizing subjective topics at a specific time using a set of keywords extracted automatically from online news articles. To do this, we first extracted a set of keywords by applying TF-IDF methods selected by a series of comparative experiments on various statistical weighting schemes that can measure the importance of individual words in a large set of texts. In order to effectively calculate the semantic relation between extracted keywords, a set of word embedding vectors was constructed by using about 1,000,000 news articles collected separately. Individual keywords extracted were quantified in the form of numerical vectors and clustered by K-means algorithm. As a result of qualitative in-depth analysis of each keyword cluster finally obtained, we witnessed that most of the clusters were evaluated as appropriate topics with sufficient semantic concentration for us to easily assign labels to them.

  • LiDAR, unlike satellite imagery and aerial photographs, which provides irregularly distributed three-dimensional coordinates of ground surface, enables three-dimensional modeling. In this study, urban area was classified based on 3D information collected by LiDAR. Morphological and spatial properties are determined by the ratio of ground and non-ground point that are estimated with the number of ground reflected point data of LiDAR raw data. With this information, the residential and forest area could be classified in terms of height and density of trees. The intensity of the signal is distinguished by a statistical method, Jenk's Natural Break. Vegetative area (high or low density) and non-vegetative area (high or low density) are classified with reflective ratio of ground surface.

  • Functional neuro-connectivity is one of the main issues in brain science in the sense that it is closely related to neurodynamics in the brain. In the paper, we choose fMRI as a main form of response data to brain activity due to its high resolution. We review methods for analyzing functional neuro-connectivity assuming that measurements are made on physiological responses to neuron activation. This means that we deal with a state-space and measurement model, where the state-space model is assumed to represent neurodynamics. Analysis methods and their interpretation should vary subject to what was measured. We included analysis results of real fMRI data by applying a high-dimensional autoregressive model, which indicated that different neurodynamics were required for solving different types of geometric problems.
