D-PASS: A Study on User Authentication Method for Smart Devices (D-PASS: 스마트 기기 사용자 인증 기법 연구)

  • The rapid increase in users of mobile smart devices has greatly expanded their range of activities. Compare to conventional mobile devices, smart devices have higher security requirements because they manage and use various kind of confidential information of the owners. However, the cation schemes provided by conventional smart devices are vulnerable to recent attacks such as shoulder surfing, recording, and smudge attacks, which are the social engineering attacks among the types of security attacks targeting the smart devices. In this paper, we propose a novel authentication method that is robust against social engineering attacks but sufficiently considering user's convenience. The proposed method is robust by using combination of a graphical authentication method and a text-based authentication method. Furthermore, our method is easier to memorize the password compare to the conventional graphical authentication methods.

A Study on Collecting and Structuring Language Resource for Named Entity Recognition and Relation Extraction from Biomedical Abstracts (생의학 분야 학술 논문에서의 개체명 인식 및 관계 추출을 위한 언어 자원 수집 및 통합적 구조화 방안 연구)

  • This paper introduces an integrated model for systematically constructing a linguistic resource database that can be used by machine learning-based biomedical information extraction systems. The proposed method suggests an orderly process of collecting and constructing dictionaries and training sets for both named-entity recognition and relation extraction. Multiple heterogeneous structures for the resources which are collected from diverse sources are analyzed to derive essential items and fields for constructing the integrated database. All the collected resources are converted and refined to build an integrated linguistic resource storage. In this paper, we constructed entity dictionaries of gene, protein, disease and drug, which are considered core linguistic elements or core named entities in the biomedical domains and conducted verification tests to measure their acceptability.

Representation of Drinking in Cultural Contents: Analysis of Television Drama Texts (지상파 TV 콘텐츠에 나타난 음주 : 황금시간대 고시청률 드라마 분석과 수용자 인식조사)

  • This study aimed to 1) analyze television drama text to examines how Korean television dramas represent alcohol drinking; 2) interview the actual drama audience to examine how they perceive drinking and whether or not their perception is influenced by the drama text. The author analyzed 60 drama episodes from 12 prime time shows that reached over 20% rating from 2008 to 2010. The result shows that drinking in dramas are portrayed as a solution to various kinds of personal and business problems, medium of romance, a tool for interpersonal communication that facilitates understanding and positive relationship. Female drinkers are prominent but their drinking is taking place under the patronage of male characters, which lead to the maintenance of patriarchal social relations. Interview findings show that the audience have strong motivation to imitate the glamourous lifestyles of leading characters in dramas. The findings strongly suggest observational learning was taking place, especially in the area where the viewers have no direct experience.

A Web-Based Multimedia Dictionary System Supporting Media Synchronization (미디어 동기화를 지원하는 웹기반 멀티미디어 전자사전 시스템)

  • The purpose of this research is to establish a method for the construction of a multimedia electronic dictionary system by integrating the media data available from linguistic resources on the Internet. As the result of this study, existing text-oriented electronic dictionary systems can be developed into multimedia lexical systems with greater efficiency and effectiveness. A method is proposed to integrate the media data of linguistic resources on the Internet by a web browser. In the proposed method, a web browser carries out all the work related to integration of media data, and it does not need a dedicated server system. The system constructed by our web browser environment integrates text, image, and voice sources, and also can produce moving pictures. Each media is associated with the meaning of data so that the data integration and movement may be specified in the associations. SMIL documents are generated by analyzing the meaning of each data unit and they are executed in a web browser. The proposed system can be operated without a dedicated server system. And also, the system saves storage space by sharing the each media data distributed on the Internet, and makes it easier to update data.

  • With the help of the advancements in information and communication, information appliances are changing. Flat panels made it possible for information appliances to become smaller in size and lighter in weight, and high end graphics provide increase in realistic and immersive use. Even with these advancements interest in design for laboratory equipment tend to only stay on a level of the exterior of the equipment, not to the point of designing the interface of display GUI. Inspired with the problem above this research would contain the preference analysis ondisplay GUI design considering the characteristics of the main users and the laboratory equipment itself. The test would be held through comparison of graphic-based display GUI and text-based display GUI and analyzing the task time and number of errors made, looking for which display GUI scientist prefer. The test results show that text-based GUI has a higher efficiency but the actual users preferred the graphic-based display GUI.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the cognitive theory of Multimedia learning in a Smart Pad environment. Specifically, the viability of the multimedia principle and individual difference principle was tested for this study. To accomplish this, participants were divided into two groups based on their prior knowledge level (high/low), and members of each group were given one of two Smart Pad based programs, one text-based and the other text and image based. Results indicate that the use of images and the interaction between image use and prior knowledge did not have a significant effect on cognitive load levels. However, there were significant effects on learning achievement. This study implies that when developing Smart Pad based learning content, the small screen size compared to PC monitors, types and functions of images, and learning objectives should be considered.

  • Visualization elements as the technology to offer information to users effectively have become more important. In this study, we evaluate the usefulness of visualization elements in InSciTe which is a technology intelligence service developed by using Semantic Web technologies and text mining technologies for establishing R&D strategy using papers and patents. We propose design which can be preferred by users and applying methods of visualization elements through the quantitative and qualitative evaluation about each types of service. As a result of evaluation, we conclude that the visualization elements in InSciTe are implemented user-friendly to improve user's cognitive intuition.

Comparison of Readability between Documents in the Community Question-Answering (질의응답 커뮤니티에서 문서 간 이독성 비교)

  • Community question and answering service is one of the main sources of information and knowledge in the Web. The quality of information in question and answer documents is determined by the clarity of the question and the relevance of the answers, and the readability of a document is a key factor for evaluating the quality. This study is to measure the quality of documents used in community question and answering service. For this purpose, we compare the frequency of occurrence by vocabulary level used in community documents and measure the readability index of documents by institution of author. To measure the readability index, we used the Dale-Chall formula which is calculated by vocabulary level and sentence length. The results show that the vocabulary used in the answers is more difficult than in the questions and the sentence length is longer. The gap in readability between questions and answers is also found by writing institution. The results of this study can be used as basic data for improving online counseling services.

Transformation-based Learning for Korean Comparative Sentence Classification (한국어 비교 문장 유형 분류를 위한 변환 기반 학습 기법)

  • This paper proposes a method for Korean comparative sentence classification which is a part of comparison mining. Comparison mining, one area of text mining, analyzes comparative relations from the enormous amount of text documents. Three-step process is needed for comparison mining - 1) identifying comparative sentences in the text documents, 2) classifying those sentences into several classes, 3) analyzing comparative relations per each comparative class. This paper aims at the second task. In this paper, we use transformation-based learning (TBL) technique which is a well-known learning method in the natural language processing. In our experiment, we classify comparative sentences into seven classes using TBL and achieve an accuracy of 80.01%.

A Language Model and Clue based Machine Learning Method for Discovering Technology Trends from Patent Text (특허 문서 텍스트로부터의 기술 트렌드 탐지를 위한 언어 모델 및 단서 기반 기계학습 방법)

  • Patent text is a rich source for discovering technological trends. In order to automate such a discovery process, we attempt to identify phrases corresponding to the problem and its solution method which together form a technology. Problem and solution phrases are identified by a SVM classifier using features based on a combination of a language modeling approach and linguistic clues. Based on the occurrence statistics of the phrases, we identify the time span of each problem and solution and finally generate a trend. Based on our experiment, we show that the proposed semantic phrase identification method is promising with its accuracy being 77% in R-precision. We also show that the unsupervised method for discovering technological trends is meaningful.
