Automatic Detection of Degraded Regions in Old Film Archive (오래된 영화에서 손상된 영역 자동검출)

  • This paper presents a method that can automatically detect variety of degradations (i.e., scratches and blotches) in old film archive. The proposed method consists of candidate detection and verification. Degradations are first identified by finding the local extreme of a frame in spatiotemporal domains, thereby using edge detector and SROD detector. Then, to remove some false alarms occurred in the first stages, the verification is performed using the texture and shape properties of scratches and blotches. The textural properties of scratches and blotches are learned using neural networks (NNs) and their shapes are represented using morphological filters. The experiments were performed on several old films, then the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method, where it has a precision of 81% and a recall of 79%.

Painterly Rendering using Density of Edges (에지 밀도를 이용한 회화적 렌더링)

  • The purpose of painterly rendering is to express real painting work from input image. For expression of real pain ting impression, drawing condition is one of main element. In this paper, we propose new algorithm for using density of edges. Drawing condition of new algorithm uses color difference and density of edges. And for finding next position from current position, we used dynamic grid. We did direction interpolation for coherence direction. Also using various texture brush, we express the feel of a material effective. We show results of images rendered more realistic oil painting effect, and discuss long-term goals for more effective result.

  • This paper proposes method to insert soong Watermark considering dull HVS properties to big change of Edge and Texture area. While conversion of existent Fourier form can acquire information for whole frequency ingredient of image, but Wavelet transform can look for Edge and Texture area locally. Therefore, use Wavelet transform to use HVS properites, and compare with Xia's Watermarking techniques to use Wavelet transform simply arid experimented these proposal algorithm. Experimented about fidelity and robusthness by attack method that is used in existing paper, and as a result, confirmed that proposal algorithm that use HVS properties is more superior than Xia's techniques.

  • Image forensic is performed to check image limpidness. In this paper, a robust scheme is discussed to detect median filtering in low quality images. Detection of median filtering assists in overall image forensic. Improved spatial statistical features are extracted from the image to classify pristine and median filtered images. Image array data is rescaled to enhance the spatial statistical information. Features are extracted using Markov model on enhanced spatial statistics. Multiple difference arrays are considered in different directions for robust feature set. Further, texture operator features are combined to increase the detection accuracy and SVM binary classifier is applied to train the classification model. Experimental results are promising for images of low quality JPEG compression.

Association between Texture Analysis Parameters and Molecular Biologic KRAS Mutation in Non-Mucinous Rectal Cancer (원발성 비점액성 직장암 환자에서 자기공명영상 기반 텍스처 분석 변수와 KRAS 유전자 변이와의 연관성)

  • Purpose To evaluate the association between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based texture parameters and Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS) mutation in patients with non-mucinous rectal cancer. Materials and Methods Seventy-nine patients who had pathologically confirmed rectal non-mucinous adenocarcinoma with or without KRAS-mutation and had undergone rectal MRI were divided into a training (n = 46) and validation dataset (n = 33). A texture analysis was performed on the axial T2-weighted images. The association was statistically analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. To extract an optimal cut-off value for the prediction of KRAS mutation, a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed. The cut-off value was verified using the validation dataset. Results In the training dataset, skewness in the mutant group (n = 22) was significantly higher than in the wild-type group (n = 24) (0.221 ± 0.283; -0.006 ± 0.178, respectively, p = 0.003). The area under the curve of the skewness was 0.757 (95% confidence interval, 0.606 to 0.872) with a maximum accuracy of 71%, a sensitivity of 64%, and a specificity of 78%. None of the other texture parameters were associated with KRAS mutation (p > 0.05). When a cut-off value of 0.078 was applied to the validation dataset, this had an accuracy of 76%, a sensitivity of 86%, and a specificity of 68%. Conclusion Skewness was associated with KRAS mutation in patients with non-mucinous rectal cancer.

Image based Shading Techniques for Surfaces with Irregular and Complex Textures Formed by Heterogeneous Materials (이종물질에 의해 복잡한 불규칙 무늬가 형성된 물체 표면의 영상 기반 셰이딩 기법)

  • In this paper we present a shading technique for realistic rendering of the surfaces with irregular and complex textures using a single photograph. So far, most works have been using many photographs or special photographing equipment to render the surfaces with irregular and complex textures as well as dividing texture regions manually. We present an automatic selection method of the region segmentation techniques according to properties of materials. As our technique produces a reflectance model and the approximated Bidirectional Reflection Distribution Function(BRDF) parameters, it allows the recovery of the photometric properties of diffuse, specular, isotropic or anisotropic textured objects. Also it make it possible to present several synthetic images with novel lighting conditions and views.

  • There have been many developments in super precision working technique and working method up to, now. But, it is very difficult to evaluate working surface accurately without the technicians experience and judgment. Surface roughness tester using stylus was used to measure surface condition generally But this method is not so desirable because of damage on test piece caused by contact between the workpiece and the stylus sensor. As a result, non-contact method was known as a good way to carry, out this process without damage. However, this is a difficult one among the various measuring methods. So we are tying to suggest a new method using texture analysis through image processing to get a surface information in worked test piece. Co-occurrence matrix using difference of gray levels between a pixel and its neighboring one was used to study behavior of surface roughness and to J acquire data for analysis. Standard specimen was adapted to verify this research. We suggest texture information method in order to evaluate surface state for the best measurement system.

Person Identification based on Clothing Feature (의상 특징 기반의 동일인 식별)

  • With the widespread use of vision-based surveillance systems, the capability for person identification is now an essential component. However, the CCTV cameras used in surveillance systems tend to produce relatively low-resolution images, making it difficult to use face recognition techniques for person identification. Therefore, an algorithm is proposed for person identification in CCTV camera images based on the clothing. Whenever a person is authenticated at the main entrance of a building, the clothing feature of that person is extracted and added to the database. Using a given image, the clothing area is detected using background subtraction and skin color detection techniques. The clothing feature vector is then composed of textural and color features of the clothing region, where the textural feature is extracted based on a local edge histogram, while the color feature is extracted using octree-based quantization of a color map. When given a query image, the person can then be identified by finding the most similar clothing feature from the database, where the Euclidean distance is used as the similarity measure. Experimental results show an 80% success rate for person identification with the proposed algorithm, and only a 43% success rate when using face recognition.

Synthesis of Realistic Facial Expression using a Nonlinear Model for Skin Color Change (비선형 피부색 변화 모델을 이용한 실감적인 표정 합성)

  • Facial expressions exhibit not only facial feature motions, but also subtle changes in illumination and appearance. Since it is difficult to generate realistic facial expressions by using only geometric deformations, detailed features such as textures should also be deformed to achieve more realistic expression. The existing methods such as the expression ratio image have drawbacks, in that detailed changes of complexion by lighting can not be generated properly. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear model for skin color change and a model-based synthesis method for facial expression that can apply realistic expression details under different lighting conditions. The proposed method is composed of the following three steps; automatic extraction of facial features using active appearance model and geometric deformation of expression using warping, generation of facial expression using a model for nonlinear skin color change, and synthesis of original face with generated expression using a blending ratio that is computed by the Euclidean distance transform. Experimental results show that the proposed method generate realistic facial expressions under various lighting conditions.

A Depth-based Disocclusion Filling Method for Virtual Viewpoint Image Synthesis (가상 시점 영상 합성을 위한 깊이 기반 가려짐 영역 메움법)

  • Nowadays, the 3D community is actively researching on 3D imaging and free-viewpoint video (FVV). The free-viewpoint rendering in multi-view video, virtually move through the scenes in order to create different viewpoints, has become a popular topic in 3D research that can lead to various applications. However, there are restrictions of cost-effectiveness and occupying large bandwidth in video transmission. An alternative to solve this problem is to generate virtual views using a single texture image and a corresponding depth image. A critical issue on generating virtual views is that the regions occluded by the foreground (FG) objects in the original views may become visible in the synthesized views. Filling this disocclusions (holes) in a visually plausible manner determines the quality of synthesis results. In this paper, a new approach for handling disocclusions using depth based inpainting algorithm in synthesized views is presented. Patch based non-parametric texture synthesis which shows excellent performance has two critical elements: determining where to fill first and determining what patch to be copied. In this work, a noise-robust filling priority using the structure tensor of Hessian matrix is proposed. Moreover, a patch matching algorithm excluding foreground region using depth map and considering epipolar line is proposed. Superiority of the proposed method over the existing methods is proved by comparing the experimental results.
