The Study on Operability Improvement of the start motor for Auxiliary Power Unit of Rotorcraft (회전익 항공기 보조동력장치 시동모터 운용성 개선연구)

  • The auxiliary power unit (APU) of a rotorcraft starts the engine during operation/flying. The APU is composed of a gas turbine engine type. The starting principle of the component is that the electric start motor generates the power required for starting by rotating the shaft. In this study, quality improvement was performed by applying an over-running clutch (ORC) between the APU and the starter motor to secure the operability of the starter motor of the APU mounted on the rotorcraft. The starter motor has the main role of starting the APU, but during operation, it is rotated without load by the rotational force of the APU gear shaft, resulting in friction at the brush. This phenomenon causes abrasion of the brush of the starter motor. Consequently, when the APU operation time increases, the brush life decreases, and the operability of the APU is affected. In this study, an ORC that separates the interlocking between the start motor brush abrasion and the APU operation time was applied to improve the operability/durability of the APU starter motor. The effect was verified through a test, and the technical feasibility of the design change was analyzed.

Structure Analysis and Scale Model Test for Strength Performance Evaluation of Submersible Mooring Pulley Installed on Floating Offshore Wind Turbine (부유식 해상풍력발전기용 반잠수식 계류 풀리의 강도 성능평가를 위한 구조해석과 축소 모형시험)

  • Recently, the destructive power of typhoons is continuously increasing owing to global warming. In a situation where the installation of floating wind turbines is increasing worldwide, concerns about the huge loss and collapse of floating offshore wind turbines owing to strong typhoons are deepening. A new type of disconnectable mooring system must be developed for the safe operation of floating offshore wind turbines. A new submersible mooring pulley considered in this study is devised to more easily attach or detach the floating of shore wind turbine with mooring lines compared with other disconnectable mooring apparatuses. To investigate the structural safety of the initial design of submersible mooring pulley that can be applied to an 8MW-class floating type offshore wind turbine, scale-down structural models were developed using a 3-D printer and structural tests were performed on the models. For the structural tests of the scale-down models, tensile specimens of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene material that was used in the 3-D printing were prepared, and the material properties were evaluated by conducting the tensile tests. The finite element analysis (FEA) of submersible mooring pulley was performed by applying the material properties obtained from the tensile tests and the same load and boundary conditions as in the scale-down model structural tests. Through the FEA, the structural weak parts on the submersible mooring pulley were reviewed. The structural model tests were conducted considering the main load conditions of submersible mooring pulley, and the FEA and test results were compared for the locations that exceeded the maximum tensile stress of the material. The results of the FEA and structural model tests indicated that the connection structure of the body and the wheel was weak in operating conditions and that of the body and the chain stopper was weak in mooring conditions. The results of this study enabled to experimentally verify the structural safety of the initial design of submersible mooring pulley. The study results can be usefully used to improve the structural strength of submersible mooring pulley in a detailed design stage.

A study on the burn-in test to accomplish high quality cockpit air of an ultra-sonic aircraft in the early stage of production (생산 초기 초음속 항공기 조종석의 고품질 공기 확보를 위한 burn-in test 연구)

  • Abnormal odor similar with burning smell often appears at the cockpit in the beginning of ultra-sonic aircraft without air filter due to the heating of production materials remained at the bleed air duct. Sources of the odor should be removed by burn-in test before test flight in order to prevent pilot confuses order with emergency such as fire of engine. However, the present method cannot prevent abnormal odor completely at the high altitude flight because maximum temperature of flight is higher than it of burn-in-test. This paper suggests burn-in test improved based on the analysis of thermal conditions of high altitude flight. It is verified that the existing burn-in test cannot cover thermal conditions of high altitude flight due to the discontinuous flow control, high change rate of temperature per unit time and difference between limit temperature of condenser and turbine. In order to overcome the limitations of current methods, the new burn-in test with continuous flow control are suggested. The continuous flow control are achieved by ram air inlet control. The effect of suggested method are verified by ground tests and flight tests. The results show the bleed air temperature can cover the temperature of high altitude flight and prevent abnormal odor at the flight test.

  • 고도로 산업화가 진행됨에 따라 회전기계는 더욱 중요시되고 있으며 이의 성능 향상에 부단한 노력이 경주되고 있다. 특히 우주 시대의 개막과 더불어 우주선 및 인공위성에 사용하기 위해 초소형이며 초고속의 고성능회전모타 를 개발하기에 이르렀다. 한 예로서 미국립항공우주국(NASA)의 스페이스셔 틀에 사용되는 주엔진 터보펌프를 들 수 있는데 이 터보펌프는 접시만한 크 기로써 71000마력을 생성해 낸다. 이러한 가공할 만한 에너지 밀도와 유량을 감당해 내려면 종래의 회전기계보다는 훨씬 더 높은 회전속도를 가져야 한 다. 이러한 회전체는 큰 관성부하와 진 동 및 동안정성의 문제등을 내포하고 있다. 고성능 회전기계의 또다른 예로서 초정밀 가공용 공작기계를 들 수 있 다. 선반 혹은 밀링머신으로 초정밀가공을 행하기 위해서는 회전축의 진동이 극히 작아야 한다. 이와 같이 오늘날 갈수록 초고성능 초정밀도를 추구함에 있어서 회전축의 진동을 현장에서 모니터링하고 이 진동데이터를 분석하여 회전축을 제어하는 것이 강력히 요구되어진다. 따라서 in-situ 측정이 중요성 을 띠게 되었는데 이는 제어기술의 바탕이 되는 자료를 현장에서 제공할 수 있기 때문이다. 회전축 진동측정의 대상이 되는 것들은 모타, 발전기, 엔진 및 터빈등을 대표적으로 들 수가 있다. 여기서 소형회전기계의 축표면과 같 이 비교적 곡면을 이루고 있는 부분의 진동변위 측정에 신중한 고려가 요구 되어 진다. 이는 축의 곡면도에 따라 감도가 변화하기 때문이다. 따라서 평 판에 대한 calibration 챠트를 회전기계축진동 변위환상에 이용하면 곡률에 따라서 오차가 생기게 된다. 본 연구에서는 비접촉 축진동측정시 발생되는 오차에 대하여 검토하고자 한다. from the studies, the origin of ${\alpha}$$_1$peak was attributed to the detrapping process form trap with 2.88[eV] deep of injected space charge from the chathode in the crystaline regions. The origin of ${\gamma}$ peak was responsible to the process combined with the depolarization of "CH$_3$", chain segment, with the activation energy of carriers from the shallow trap with 0.

  • According to IEEE 1662(2009), IPS is a power system where all prime movers produce electrical power that is shared among propulsion, mission, and ship service loads. Discriminating attributes of integrated power systems are flexibility of movers' arrangements, mechanical decoupling between prime movers and propulsors, an increased level of energy conversion and transmission redundancy, and flexibility of redistributing available electrical power for future electronic weapons. IPS could have various steps of power that can be produced at optimal load of movers. In this study, an evaluation method for optimal arrangement of movers was investigated when an IPS warship is projected. The two factors are utilized for the quantitative analysis which are the weight of system as the fighting power and the fuel consumption per year as the economic feasibility. And also the ways for arrangement of system were studied according to existence of small diesel generator. The evaluation method that decides the optimization level is based on the DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis)

$CO_2$ Removal Process Case Studies and Plant Performance Analysis for 300MW IGCC Power Plant (300MW 급 IGCC Power Plant $CO_2$ 제거공정의 Case Studies 및 Plant 성능 영향 분석)

  • 300MW 급 태안 IGCC 가스화 플랜트 및 기존 발전소에 CCS 를 설치할 경우에 대해 기술 타당성 검증을 목적으로 CCS 모델링을 수행하였다. CCS Case Studies 는 플랜트 운전부하에 따른 $CO_2$ 제거율, $H_2S$ 제거율, 소모동력 범위 등 플랜트 성능을 예측할 수 있다. Case Studies 결과를 활용하여 설계된 CCS 설비 용량이 운전범위에 적합한지를 판단할 수 있고 과잉 설계되었을 경우 플랜트 건설비를 절감할 수 있다. IGCC 가스화 플랜트에서 생산되는 합성가스의 $CO_2$ 분압, 목표 $CO_2$ 제거율, 경제성을 기준으로 적합한 CCS 공정을 판단한 결과 Selexol 공정이 선정되었다. Selexol 공정은 고압, 고농도의 산성가스 제거에 적합하며 다른 물리적 용매인 Rectisol 공정에 비해 건설비용이 경제적이고 화학 흡수제인 아민과 비교하여 운전 온도 범위가 넓다. CO, $H_2O$$CO_2$, $H_2$ 로 전환하는 Water Gas Shift Reaction (WGSR) 공정은 Co/Mo 촉매 반응기로 구성되었고 Selexol 공정은 $H_2S$ Absorber, $H_2S$ Stripper, $CO_2$ Absorber, $CO_2$ Flash Drum 로 구성되었다. WGSR+Selexol 모델링은 Wet Scrubber 후단의 합성가스 (40.5 bar, $136{\sim}139^{\circ}C$) 를 대상으로 하였다. WGSR+Selexol 공정 운전 조건 변화 [Process Design Case(PDC), Equipment Design Case(EDC), Turndown Design Case(TDC)] 에 따른 플랜트 모델링 결과를 비교분석 하였다. 주요 분석 내용은 WGSR 설비에서의 CO 의 $CO_2$ 전환 효율, Selexol 설비에서 $CO_2$ 제거 효율, $H_2S$ 제거 효율이다. 모델링 결과 WGSR 설비에서의 CO 의 $CO_2$ 로의 전환율 99.1% 이상, Selexol 설비에서 $CO_2$ 제거율은 91.6% 이상, $H_2S$ 제거율 100%이었다. CCS 설비 설치에 따른 플랜트 성능 영향을 분석하기 위해서 CCS 설비의 Chiller, Compressor, Pump 소비동력을 계산하였다. 모델링 결과 Chiller 는 2.6~8.5 MWth, Compressor 는 3.0~9.6 MWe, Pump 는 1.4~3.0 MWe 범위 이었다. 플랜트 로드가 50%인 TDC 소모동력은 플랜트 로드가 100%인 PDC 소모동력의 절반 수준이었다. 합성가스를 WGS+Selexol 공정을 통해 수소가스로 전환시키면 가스터빈 연료가스의 Lower Heating Value (LHV) 값이 평균 11.5% 감소하였다.

An experimental study of cutting efficiency of air-driven diamond burs on human tooth (수종 air-turbine 다이아몬드 버의 절삭 효과에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the cutting efficiency of coarse grit diamond burs with air-turbine handpiece on natural tooth. Materials and methods: Four groups of coarse grit diamond bur were selected: Komet (A), Shofu (B), Premier (C), and Mani (D). The extracted maxillary central incisors were used, and ten cuts were made on each specimen, using the rotary diamond burs. The surface of each bur was measured at the upper, middle, and bottom of the bur with confocal laser scanning microscope and imaged with SEM. The data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and t-test at the significance level of 0.05. Results: The surface roughness was measured. At the A diamond bur, the Sa values were $52.93\;{\mu}m$, $48.32\;{\mu}m$, $46.79\;{\mu}m$, $45.06\;{\mu}m$, and $43.43\;{\mu}m$ for control, test 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively. The Sa values were $50.68\;{\mu}m$, $45.62\;{\mu}m$, $44.41\;{\mu}m$, $44.10\;{\mu}m$, and $42.46\;{\mu}m$ for B diamond bur, $58.02\;{\mu}m$, $55.53\;{\mu}m$, $52.22\;{\mu}m$, $48.26\;{\mu}m$, and $45.36\;{\mu}m$ for C diamond bur, and $50.11\;{\mu}m$, $46.73\;{\mu}m$, $45.46\;{\mu}m$, $42.58\;{\mu}m$, and $41.80\;{\mu}m$ for D diamond bur. Surface roughness after each bur use showed significant changes, but no significant difference was found in surface roughness change between bur systems. Conclusions: Surface roughness in the same bur system showed significant differences after each tooth preparation. However no statistically significant differences were found in surface roughness between bur systems. The SEM images between control and test 4 showed the abraded particles.

Effects of Exhaust Gas Recirculation on Power and Thermal Efficiency of Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition in Different Load Conditions with a 6-L Engine (6 L급 압축착화 기관에서 천연가스-디젤 반응성 조정 연소 시 부하에 따른 배기 재순환율이 출력 및 열효율에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • Reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) combustion is one of dual-fuel combustion systems which can be constructed by early diesel injection during the compression stroke to improve premixing between diesel and air. As a result, RCCI combustion promises low nitrogen oxides (NOx) and smoke emissions comparing to those of general dual-fuel combustion. For this combustion system, to meet the intensified emission regulations without emission after-treatment systems, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is necessary to reduce combustion temperature with lean premixed mixture condition. However, since EGR is supplied from the front of turbocharger system, intake pressure and the amount of fresh air supplementation are decreased as increasing EGR rate. For this reason, the effect of various EGR rates on the brake power and thermal efficiency of natural gas/diesel RCCI combustion under two different operating conditions in a 6 L compression ignition engine. Varying EGR rate would influence on the combustion characteristic and boosting condition simultaneously. For the 1,200/29 kW and 1,800 rpm/(lower than) 90 kW conditions, NOx and smoke emissions were controlled lower than the emission regulation of 'Tier-4 final' and the maximum in-cylinder pressure was 160 bar for the indurance of engine system. The results showed that under 1,200 rpm/29 kW condition, there were no changes in brake power and thermal efficiency. On the other hand, under 1,800 rpm condition, brake power and thermal efficieny were decreased from 90 to 65 kW and from 37 to 33 % respectively, because of deceasing intake pressure (from 2.3 to 1.8 bar). Therefore, it is better to supply EGR from the rear of compressor, i.e. low pressure EGR (LP-EGR) system, comparing to high pressure EGR (HP-EGR) for the improvement of RCCI power and thermal efficiency.
