  • The FPSO is moored by mooring lines to keep the position of it. The nonlinear motion analysis of the moored FPSO must be carried out in the initial design stage because sea environments affect motion of it. In this paper, the mathematical model is based on the slow motion maneuvering equations in the horizontal plane considering wave, current and wind forces. The direct integration method is employed to estimate wave loads. The current forces are calculated by using mathematical model of MMG. The turret mooring forces are quasi-statically evaluated by using the catenary equation. The coefficients of a model for wind forces are calculated from Isherwood's experimental data and the variation of wind speed is estimated by wind spectrum according to the guidelines of API-RP2A. The nonlinear motions of FPSO are simulated under external forces due to wave, current, wind including mooring forces in time domain.

  • In this study, hydrodynamic and mooring analysis for LNG FSRU moored by an internal turret with 9 mooring lines are numerically performed using commercial softwares, Hydrostar and Ariane. Met-ocean combinations for screening method are taken from wave governed condition(BV Rule Note NR 493) with relative heading between wave and wind between −45° and +45° and relative heading between wind and current between −30° and +30°. Extreme mooring analysis and sensitivity analysis are performed for intact and damaged (=one line missing) conditions and the parameters for sensitivity analysis are wave peak period, peak enhancement factor and line pretension. In the viewpoint of the design tension in mooring line, chain diameter is designed to satisfy safety factor for each conditions. As the chain diameter is increased from 152mm to 171mm, the designtension is reduced while the minimum breaking load is increased.

  • As offshore oil fields move towards the deep ocean, the oil production systems such as FPSO are being built these days. Generally, the FPSO is moored by turret mooring lines to keep the position of FPSO. Thus nonlinear motion analysis of moored FPSO must be carried out in the initial design stage because sea environments affect motion of it. In this paper the mathematical model is based on the slow motion maneuvering equations in the horizontal plane considering wave, current and wind forces. The direct integration method is employed to estimate wave loads. The current forces are calculated by using mathematical model of MMG. • Most offshore platforms utilize chain mooring systems for position keeping. However, information regarding related design modification processes is scarce in literature. This study focuses on the floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering terminal (FLBT) as the target of shore platform and analyzes the corresponding initial mooring design and model tests via numerical simulations. Subsequently, based on the modified design conditions, a new mooring system design is proposed. Adjusting the main direction of the mooring line bundle according to the dominant environmental direction is found to significantly reduce the mooring design load. Even turret-moored offshore platforms are exposed to beam sea conditions, leading to high mooring tension due to motions in beam sea conditions. Collinear environmental conditions cannot be considered as design conditions. Mooring design loads occur under complex conditions of wind, waves, and currents in different environmental directions. Therefore, it is essential appropriately assign the roll damping coefficients during mooring analysis because the roll has a significant effect on mooring tension.

  • This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the motion of an FPSO (Floating production storage and off-loading) and the characteristics of the mooring systejavascript:confirm_mark('abe', '1');m according to the turret position. Model tests of a turret-moored FPSO were carried out in the Ocean Engineering basin of KRISO. The FPSO was moored using an internal turret and catenary mooring. The models (1/60 scale) that were prepared included the FPSO, turret, and mooring lines. The experiments were conducted in irregular waves and combined environments, with waves, currents, and winds. A time-domain simulation was performed using OrcaFlex. The motion response and mooring line tension from the present calculations were compared with the results of experiments, and the agreement was fairly good. In addition, the results showed that the weathervaning stability was improved when the position of the turret was moved in the bow direction.

  • Typical technical issues associated with Floating LNG (FLNG: FSRU and LNG FPSO) design are categorized in terms of global performance evaluation. Although many proven technologies developed through LNG carrier and oil FPSO projects are available for FLNG design, we are still faced with several technical challenges to clear for successful FLNG projects. In this paper, some of the challenges encountered during development of the floating LNG facility (i.e. LNG FPSO and FSRU) will be reviewed together with their investigated solution. At the same time, research of design improvement including new LNG-related technologies such as combined containment system will be presented to overcome the unrevealed challenges for the FLNG development.
