  • A study was made on the synthesis of a carbonate base nitrogen-free deliming agent using a non-phosgene compound applicable to the deliming process, which is one of the biggest sources of pollutant increasing the T-N concentration in the effluent from the leather making processes. And also studied on the possibility of using the agent in the deliming process. Through measurement of T-N, BOD, COD and SS in the effluent after the agent is used, contents of Ca and Cr and TS in the leather after the deliming process were measured, by which deliming efficiency, influences to the physical properties of the chromium tanned leather and reducing effects of T-N, BOD, COD and SS concentrations in the effluent could be confirmed. Thus an eco-friendly study has been conducted.

  • In this paper, first we went through the deliming and degreasing as pre-treatment of limed pelt scrap which is derived from liming process during leather manufacturing processing. After that, we produced fine collagen using non-chrome tanning and heat treatment and using acryl monomer graft polymerization such as GMA and MMA. From the comparisonof final products made by various methods, they showed good features in pyrolysis temperature, heat-resisting, variation of moisture content and particle distribution.

Isolation of Chitin from Crab Shell Waste (게 가공 폐기물로부터 키틴의 분리)

  • Procedures for isolatin of chitin have been developed from crab(Chionoecetes opilio) shell waste with 26. 65% chitin on a dry basis. Optimal conditions for demineralization of crab shell were 1N HCl at ambient temperature for 30min with a solids to solbent ratio of 1 : 15(w/v). Optimal deproteinization involved treatment with 5% NaOH at $65^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr with a solids to solvent ratio of 1 : 15(w/v). Effective decoloration was achieved by bleaching with 0.32% sodium hypochlorite solution for 3min with a solids to solvent ratio of 1 : 10(w/v). Particular attentin was given to characterization of the physicochemical properties of the crab chitin. Chitins, from four different mesh sizes of crab shell, did not show significant differences in nitrogen and ash compositions. Bleaching decreased the viscosity of chitin but did not affect its solubility.
