In this paper, the Fe-activated carbon fiber (ACF)/$TiO_2$ composite catalysts were prepared by a sol-gel method. The synthesized photocatalysts were used for the photo degradation of Methylene blue solution under UV light. From Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements (BET) data, it was shown the blocking of the micropores on the surface of ACF by treatment of Fe and Ti compound. As shown in SEM images, the ferric compounds and titanium dioxides were fixed onto the ACF surfaces. The result of X-ray powder diffraction showed that the crystal phase contained a mixing anatase and rutile structure and the 'FeO+$TiO_2$' from the composites. The EDX spectra for the elemental analysis showed the presence of C, O, and Ti with Fe peaks. Degradation activity of MB could be attributed to +OH radicals derived from electron/hole pair's reactions due to photolysis of $TiO_2$ and photo-Fenton effect of Fe.

In this study, physical properties and EMP shielding performance evaluation of cement paste according to the amount of milled carbon fiber was conducted to develop EMP shielding cement using carbon fiber. The length of the milled carbon fiber used was 100㎛, and it was used as a cement admixture because it showed a powdery form to the naked eye. As a result of the experiment, when 5% of the amount of cement was used, the milled carbon fiber was effective in compressive strength and EMP shielding, and the shielding effect did not increase when used beyond that. As a result of examining the EMP shielding performance according to the thickness of the specimen, the plain without milled carbon fiber had no effect of increasing the shielding rate according to the thickness. The shielding performance of the specimens using the milled carbon fiber increased as the thickness increased. Therefore, in order to increase the EMP shielding rate when comparing and evaluating the performance according to the amount of milled carbon fiber used and the thickness of the specimen, 5% of the milled carbon fiber used is optimal. In addition, the method of increasing the thickness is considered to be effective.

This study evaluated the mechanical and electrical properties of low-cement mortar using a large amount of industrial by-products to reduce carbon emissions from the cement industry. As types of industrial by-products, blast furnace slag and fly ash, which are representative materials, were used, and ultra-high fly ash was mixed and evaluated to solve the problem of initial strength loss. In addition, in order to evaluate the electrical properties, 1% of MWCNT was incorporated relative to the powder mass. As experimental items, the compressive strength was measured on the 1st, 3rd, 7th and 28th days of age, and the rate of change in electrical resistance was measured on the 28th day of age. As a result of the experiment, the initial strength of the test specimen mixed with blast furnace slag and fly ash was significantly lower than that of 100% cement, and the specimen mixed with blast furnace slag showed strength equal to that of cement at 28 days of age. As an electrical characteristic, the electrical resistance was reduced when the load was loaded, and this reason is judged to be the effect of improving the conductivity as the connection between CNTs is narrowed by the compressive load.

This study reports a direct growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the surface of LiCoO2 (LCO) powders to apply as highly efficient cathode materials in lithium-ion batteries (LIB). The CNT synthesis was performed using a thermal chemical vapor deposition apparatus with temperatures from 575 to 625 ℃. Ferritin molecules as growth catalyst of CNTs were mixed in deionized (DI) water with various concentrations from 0.05 to 1.0 mg/mL. Then, the LCO powders was dissolved in the ferritin solution at a ratio of 1g/mL. To obtain catalytic iron nanoparticles on the LCO surface, the LCO-ferritin suspension was dropped in silicon dioxide substrates and calcined under air at 550℃. Subsequently, the direct growth of CNTs on LCO powders was performed using a mixture of acetylene (10 sccm) and hydrogen (100 sccm) for 10 min. The growth behavior was characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, Raman scattering spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis. The optimized condition yielding high structural quality and amount of CNTs was 600 ℃ and 0.5 mg/mL. The obtained materials will be developed as cathode materials in LIB.

To optimize the medium composition of Undaria pinnatifida as a pH modulator the growth of Lactobacillus plantarum industrial scale, we analyzed the pH and growth characteristics of L. plantarum in basal medium. Subsequently, the medium compositions addition of carbon, nitrogen sources and buffering agents were optimized. When 0.5% yeast extract and 2% glucose, L. plantarum grew to maximum cell density in experimental condition. However, the growth of L. plantarum rapidly pH 4.0 in basal medium. A high alkali-ash value and low cost-effective utilization n the waste part as examined. ddition of U. pinnatifida extract alleviated the serious decrease. Among them, juice of U. pinnatifida was most helpful for the growth of L. plantarum ($36.3{\pm}1.810^8CFU/mL$). These results show that U. pinnatifida be large-scale cultivation of L. plantarum. This optimized U. pinnatifida medium can be used for safe and economical production of Lactobacillus.
Chemically modified electrodes(CMEs) for Ag(I) were constructed by incoporating 1,5,9,13-tetrathiacyclohexadecane([16]-ane-$S_4$) with a conventional carbon-paste mixture composed of graphite powder and nujol oil. Ag(I) ion was chemically deposited onto the surface of the modified electrode with [16]-ane-$S_4$ by immersion of the electrode in the acetate buffer solution(pH=4.5) containing $5.0{\times}10^{-4}M$ Ag(I) ion. And then the electrode deposited with Ag(I) was reduced at -0.3V vs. S.C.E. Well-defined stripping voltammetric peaks could be obtained by scanning the potential to the positive direction. The CME surface was regenerated with exposure to 0.1M $HNO_3$ solution and was reused for the determination of Ag(I) ion. When deposition/measurement/regeneration cycles were 10 times, the response could be reproduced with relative standard deviation of 6.08%. In case of differential pulse stripping voltammetry, the calibration curve for Ag(I) was linear over the range of $5.0{\times}10^{-7}{\sim}1.5{\times}10^{-6}M$. And the detection limit was $2.0{\times}10^{-7}M$. Various ions such as Cd(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Zn(II), Mn(II), Mg(II), EDTA, and oxalate(II) did not influence the determination of Ag(I) ion, except Cu(II) ion.
Cultural characteristics of a strain of Streptomyces sp. K-14 (KFCC 35051) producing glucose isomerase were demonstrated. The glucose isomerase was produced when the strain was grown in the medium containing pure xylan or xylan.containing materials such as wheat bran or com cob. The optimum condition was attained in a culture medium composed of 3 % wheat bran or com cob, 2 % com steep liquor, 0.1% $MgSO_4$$7H_2O$ and 0.012 % $CoSO_4$$7H_2O$ for the production of the glucose isomera,e. The production of the enzyme reached to a maximum level when the strain was cultured for 40 hrs $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0.

4 strains of the oak mushroom Lentinus edodes including the strain ASI 3046 were collected home and abroad to investigate the characterics of mycelial growth on synthetic media and sawdust media. The possibility of artificial culture of Lentinus edodes on media composed of different saw dusts and adding materials was investigated. Results were as follows: The optimum temperature for growth ranged from $22^{\circ}C$ to $26^{\circ}C$ among the lineages of Lentinus edodes. The optimal growth temperature for ASI 3046 strain and ASI 3047 strain was $26^{\circ}C$ and $22^{\circ}C$, respectively. The optimal carbon source for ASI 3046 strain was glucose, and peptone and ammoinum tartrate were proved excellent as nitrogen sources. When Lentinus edodes was cultured on sawdust media by varying the mixing ratio of different sawdusts and adding materials, mixed sawdust media composed of oak sawdust(50%, v/v), poplar sawdust(50%, v/v), acorn powder(5%, v/v) and rice bran(10%, v/v) showed higher yields of fruit bodies. Results showed that the ideal strain of Lentinus edodes for artificial culture on sawdust media was strain ASI 3046.
This study was carried out to investigate the promoting effect of wood flour on the mycelial growth of Lentinus lepideus and Lentinus edodes. To determine the optimal culture condition, we first examined the tissue origin of pine flour (Pinus densiflora) including needle, bark, root and xylem. Only the xylem-derived flour increased mycelial growth compared to no treatment control. The addition of the xylem flour (5 g/l) showed the highest increase and the glucose level in the basal medium was best at 10 g/l. The smaller particle size of the xylem flour showed the positive effect on mycelial growth; two-fold increase when supplemented with flour of which particle size is less than $106\;{\mu}m$ in diameter compared to $425\;{\mu}m$. The addition of the xylem flour continuously increased the mycelial production for 25 days while mycelia stopped growing within 15 days without the xylem flour. In addition, when woody flour obtained from the different tree species was applied to L. edodes mycelial culture, all treatments accelerated mycelial production compared to the control. Based on all results described above, we conclude that the supplementation of woody flour to culture medium may be an another promising way to increase mycelial production of economically important fungi.
