The Effects of Energy Price Increase on Automobile Industry (에너지가격 상승이 자동차산업에 미치는 영향)

  • This article analyzes the effects of energy price increase induced by GHGs mitigation policy on automobile industry empirically. An increase in energy price due to GHGs mitigation policy does not have a significant effect on the production and the value-added in automobile industry. Electricity price has a negative effect on the production and the value-added in automobile industry, but it is not significant. However, employment is significantly affected by a change in electricity price. Export is also affected negatively, but the effect is insignificant. These results imply that GHGs mitigation policy such as carbon tax might affect adversely the employment in automobile industry. Especially, their effects on employment are significant. Therefore, some moderating measures to relieve the adverse effects on employment in automobile industry should be called upon with the implementation of GHGs mitigation policy.

The Networks of the Korean Clean Development Mechanism(CDM) Industry: Agents and Linkages (한국 청정개발체제 산업 네크워크: 행위자와 연계)

  • This study investigated the carbon offset project activities as the activities of producing commodities by a case study on the Korean Clean Development Mechanism(CDM) industry. This study draw the networks of Korean CDM industry by extracting major agents and surrounding agents and by analyzing the characteristics of the linkages. The project participants owning the CDM projects hires CDM consultancies and designated operational entities(DOEs). The technical knowledge for carbon emission reduction made links between project participants and the CDM project operational knowledge made links between project participants and CDM consultancies. Links between project participants and DOEs are affected by social and geographical proximities. The value of the knowledge for CDM industrial activities determined the role of agents and type of linkages. The agents with the irreplaceable knowledge could be a project conducting firms. The agents without it became outsourcing contractors.

An Analysis of the Characteristics of Environmental Impact for PSC Beam Bridges using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA 기반 PSC 교량의 환경부하 특성분석에 대한 연구)

  • This study aims to analyze characteristics of environmental load for the construction phase of PSC beam bridge based on Life Cycle Assessment. For detail computation of environmental load, the construction materials and energy consumption are derived from the BOQ, also connecting with environmental load by Korea LCI Database Information Network. The characteristic of environmental impact was analyzed by 25 cases and cut-off ratio was 80% to 94%. The result sorted by construction materials revealed that environmental load were 53.3% for ready-mixed concrete, 9.6% for wire rod, 7.8% for rebar, 6.8% for cement, 5.5% for plywood, and 5.2% for energy. Furthermore, the result of environmental impact revealed that 45.5% for global warming, 30.4% for abiotic resources depletion, 10.5% for human toxicity, and 8.9% for photochemical oxidant creation. In the future, we can make a decision considering environmental load based on LCA at design phase.

  • 소수력은 온실가스 배출량이 적은 친환경 청정에너지원이면서 지역의 분산전원에 기여할 수 있는 유용한 자원으로 평가되고 있다. 이러한 여건은 소수력발전 사업이 전력의 smart grid 구축 효과로 인해 가장 큰 효율성을 달성할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 국내 소수력발전은 1500Mw의 부존량을 가진 것으로 평가되고 있으나 계절적 편중으로 인한 가동률 부족, 경제성 부족 등으로 활발한 보급이 이루어지지 않고 있다. 특히 신재생에너지 확대 전략에도 불구하고 지원금 등 경제적 인센티브 부족으로 인해 민간부문의 참여는 상당히 저조하다. 그럼에도 불구하고 수력에너지는 환경친화적이고 잠재성이 큰 신재생에너지로 온실가스 저감과 에너지 확보에 기여할 수 있다. 특히 수력에너지는 민간투자의 어려움이 존재하므로 정부의 장기적인 기술개발투자 및 효율성 확대 정책이 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 소수력 확대의 경제 환경적 효과를 평가해보기 위해 연산일반균형모형 (CGE :Computable General Equilibrium Model)을 구축한다. 본 연구는 다음과 같이 수행되었다. 첫째, 수력발전부문과 수도사업을 구분하고 사회회계행렬을 작성하였으며, 전력부문에서 수력발전을 포함한 다단계 생산구조를 가정하였다. 둘째, 일반균형모형 방정식 체계를 작성하고 모형의 파라미터 추정 등 보정(Calibration) 작업을 수행하였다. 셋째, 국가 중기 온실가스저감 시나리오를 적용한 전망을 수행하고 소수력 확대(투자지원) 시나리오를 구축한다. 본 연구는 저감수단으로 탄소세를 부과하였다. 끝으로, 소수력 발전 보급 확대의 경제적, 환경적 파급효과를 계산하였다. 분석결과, 소수력 발전 잠재 성장을 반영한 수력에너지 비중은 약 2020년에 약 4.5% 까지 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이로 인한 온실가스 저감 기여분은 약 3%에 이르는 것으로 계산 되었다. 또한 수도사업과 비에너지 제조업의 산업비중은 증가하였다. 이러한 결과는 소수력 발전 확대가 화석연료 대체를 통한 지속가능한 에너지 수요에 기여하고 지역개발과 물산업 발전 등 경제적 파급효과 등을 유발할 수 있음을 시사한다. 또한 본 연구에서 고려하지 못한 소수력 기술 개발은 에너지 대체 촉진으로 인한 온실가스 저감과 녹색성장에 기여할 것이다.

  • 주거 상업용 건물에 있어 최근 TV, LED 조명, 컴퓨터, IT 기기들과 같은 직류를 사용하는 부하가 점차 증가함에 따라 기존의 교류 배전 기반의 건물 전력구조에서 에너지절감을 위한 하나의 방안으로 직류기반의 건물 배전구조에 대한 도입에 대한 연구가 활발히 이뤄지고 있다. 또한 직류 형태의 전원인 태양광 발전, 연료전지 등의 신재생 에너지와 가정 및 전기자동차용 배터리의 등장은 직류 기반 전력구조가 가지는 강점을 더욱 부각시키고 있다. 직류 배전 시스템은 기존 교류 배전에서 직류부하를 위한 다중의 전력 변환 과정을 최소화함으로서 전원 및 부하에서 소모되는 에너지를 절감하여 전력시장 내 전체적인 탄소배출량 저감에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 고려되어지고 있다. 이는 직류배전 시스템의 에너지 저감 효용성 이외 기존 교류배전 대비 부하단 부품 수의 감소에 따른 신뢰성 향상 및 가격 저감, 무효전력 고려사항의 제거 등 많은 장점을 가지기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 소용량 건물에 직류배전 구조가 도입될 경우 실현 가능성이 높은 대표적 직류 배전 구조들을 Functional Modeling 기법을 통해 모델링하며, 시뮬레이션을 통해 기존의 교류 배전 건물과 함께 각각의 전력계 구조에 대한 효율 및 장단점들을 정성적으로 비교하고, 구현에 필요한 고려사항들을 제시한다.

Carbon Uptake and Emissions in Urban Landscape, and the Role of Urban Greenspace for several Cities in Kangwon Province (강원도 일부도시의 경관내 탄소흡수 및 배출과 도시녹지의 역할)

  • This study quantified carbon uptake and emissions in urban landscape, and the role of urban greenspace in atmospheric carbon reduction for several cities of Chuncheon and Kangleung in Kangwon province. Mean carbon storage by trees and shrubs was 26.0 t (mertric tons)/ha in Chuncheon and 46.7 t/ha in Kangleung for natural lands, and ranged from 4.7 to 6.3 t/ha for urban lands (all land use types except natural and agricultural lands) in both cities. Mean annual carbon uptake by trees and shrubs ranged from 1.60 to 1.71 t/ha/yr for natural lands, and from 0.56 to 0.71 t/ha/yr for urban lands. There was no significant difference (95% confidence level) between the two cities in the carbon storage and annual carbon uptake per ha, except the carbon storage for natural lands. Organic carbon storage in soils (to a depth of 60 cm) of Chuncheon average 24.8 t/ha for urban lands and 31.6 t/ha for natural lands, 1.3 times greater than for urban lands. Annual carbon accumulation in soils was 1.3 t/hr/yr for natural lands of the study cities. Annual per capita carbon emissions from fossil fuel consumption were 1.3 t/yr in Chunceon and 1.8 t/yr in Kangleung. The principal carbon release in urban landscapes was from transport and industry. Total carbon storage by urban greenspace (trees, shrubs, and soils) equaled 66% of total carbon emissions in Chuncheon and 101% in Kangleung. Carbon uptake by urban greenspace annually offset total carbon emissions by approximately 4% in the study cities. Thus, urban greenspace played a partial important role in reducing atmospheric $CO_2$ concentrations. To increase $CO_2$ uptake and storage by urban greenspace, suggested are conservation of natural lands, minimization of hard surfaces and more plantings, selection of tree species with high growth rate, and proper management for longer healthy tree growth.

  • WGS(Water Gas Shift)반응은 일산화탄소(CO)를 이산화탄소($CO_2$)로 전환하는 반응으로 일체형 수소생산시스템의 실현을 위한 고순도 수소생산에 있어서 중요한 단계이다. WGS 반응은 열역학적 평형을 고려하여 고온전이반응(HTS: High Temperature Shift)과 저온전이반응(LTS: Low Temperature Shift) 두 단계 반응으로 진행된다. 두 단계 공정의 통합을 위해 낮은 온도에서 높은 활성을 갖는 WGS 반응용 촉매 개발이 필요하다. 최근 낮은 온도에서 높은 활성을 갖는 귀금속 촉매에 다양한 담체를 적용시킨 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 선행 연구 결과, Ce-$ZrO_2$ 구조는 Ce/Zr 비에 따라 다양한 특성 변화를 관찰하였다. 따라서 낮은 온도에서 높은 활성을 갖는 WGS 반응용 촉매 제조를 위해 환원성 담체인 $CeZrO_2$에 Pt 을 담지시켜 성능을 평가하였다. 제조된 모든 담체는 공침법(Co-precipitation)으로 제조 하였으며 $500^{\circ}C$에서 6시간 소성하였다. 제조된 담체에 백금(Pt)을 함침법(Incipient Wetness Impregnate)으로 담지시켰다. 특성분석은 BET를 이용하여 표면적을 측정하였다. 촉매 반응 실험조건은 $200^{\circ}C{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ 온도범위에서 기체공간속도(GHSV: Gas Hourly Space Velocity) 45,000 ml/$h{\cdot}g-cat$ 으로 혼합가스($H_2$:60%, $N_2$:20%,$CH_4$:1%,CO:9%,$CO_2$:10%)를 흘려 반응 후 배출되는 가스를 Micro-Gas Chromatography 를 이용하여 측정하였다.

  • Since 1997, Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Ministry of Environment have established data on some 400 basic raw and subsidiary materials and process like energy, petro-chemical, steel, cement, glass, paper, construction materials, transportation, recycling and disposal etc by initiating establishment of LCI database. Regarding agriculture, Rural Development Administration has conducted establishment of LCI database for major farm products like rice, barley, beans, cabbage and radish etc from 2009, and released that they would establish LCI database for 50 items until 2020 later on. The domestic LCI database for seeds, seedling, agrochemical, inorganic, fertilizer and organic fertilizer etc is only at initial stage of establishment, so overseas LCI databases are brought and being used. However, since the domestic and overseas natural environments differ, they fall behind in reliability. Therefore, this study has the purpose to select organic farming materials, survey the production process for various types of organic farming materials and establish LCI database for the effects of greenhouse gas emitted by each crop during the process. As for selecting methods, in this study organic farming materials were selected in the method of direct observation of material and bottom-up method a survey method with focus on the organic farming materials admitted into rice production. For the basic unit of carbon emission amount by the production of 1kg of organic farming material, the software PASS 4.1.1 developed by Korea Accreditation Board under Ministry of Knowledge Economy was used. The study had the goal to ultimately provide basic unit to calculate carbon emission amount in executing many institutions like goal management system and carbon performance display system etc in agricultural sector to be conducted later on. As a result, emission basic units per 1kg of production were calculated to be 0.04968kg-$CO_2$ for oystershells, 0.004692kg-$CO_2$ for expanded rice hull, and 1.029kg-$CO_2$ for bordeaux mixture liquid.

Study on Improved Road Geometry Conditions of Chicane Considering the Relationship between Road Geometry and Carbon Emissions Reduction (도로 기하구조와 탄소배출 저감의 연계성을 고려한 시케인 기하구조 조건의 개선에 관한 연구)

  • PURPOSES: Recently, many local governments have applied chicanes for traffic calming to ensure environment-friendly comfortable and safe roads. However, the geometry of a chicane is designed for speed reduction using a curved portion. This study aims to improve the road geometry conditions of chicanes for reducing carbon emissions and maintaining appropriate driving speeds by considering the relationship between road geometry and carbon emissions. METHODS: This study was conducted as follows. First, carbon emissions corresponding to changing acceleration of vehicles were studied. Second, vehicle acceleration caused by the relationship between the curve radius and the straight length was studied. Accordingly, desirable conditions of curve radius and length of the straight section for reducing carbon emissions were proposed. RESULTS: The existing literature on chicanes present the minimum value of stagger length and path angle in the primary variable condition. This study suggests the maximum values of the curve radius and length of straight section in the primary variable condition. Therefore, if a vehicle's speed at a chicane is 30 km/h, this study suggests a curve radius of up to 24 m. In addition, if the vehicle's speed is 24 km/h, this study suggests a length of straight section of up to 6.6 m. These are the geometric conditions for considering the control of acceleration to the vehicle's maximum speed. CONCLUSIONS: This paper proposes an application of geometric conditions to reduce carbon emissions and maintain appropriate speeds of vehicles through a combination of curve radius and length of straight section.

Impact Analysis of Air Quality of Mobile Sources using Microscopic Emission and Dispersion Model (미시적 탄소배출량 및 대기확산 모형을 이용한 이동오염원에 의한 대기 질 영향 분석)

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to investigate the capability of the combined model of traffic simulation, emission and air dispersion models on the impact analysis of air quality of mobile sources such as vehicles. METHODS : The improvement of the quality of life brings about the increasing interest of the public environment. Many endeavors including the travel demand management, the application of the state-of-the-art ITS technologies, the promotion of eco-friendly vehicles have been tried in transportation area to reduce the modal emissions. Especially, it is expected that the increasing number of eco-friendly vehicles in the road network would be able to reduce the pipe-tail emissions tremendously. From this perspective, we have performed a study on the impact analysis of the popularization of the eco-friendly vehicle in the place of the fossil fuel energy powered vehicles on the surrounding air quality using the combined framework of microscopic traffic simulation, emission and air dispersion model. RESULTS : The combined model successfully captured the effect of moving to the eco-friendly vehicles on the air quality, and the results showed that the increasing usage of eco-friendly vehicles can improve the surrounding air quality tremendously and that the air dispersion model plays a crucial role in the investigation of the air quality change around the main corridor. CONCLUSIONS : This study demonstrated the capability of the combined model showing the spatio-tempral change of emission concentration.
