The avoidance of enemy's radar detection is very important issue in the modem electronic weapon system. Researchers have studied to minimize reflected signals of radar. In this research, two types of radar absorbing structure (RAS), 'C'-type shell and 'U'-type shell, were fabricated using fiber-reinforced composite materials and their radar cross section (RCS) were evaluated. The absorption layer was composed of glass fiber reinforced epoxy and nano size carbon-black, and the reflection layer was fabricated with carbon fiber reinforced epoxy. During their manufacturing process, undesired thermal deformation (so called spring-back) was observed. In order to reduce spring-back, the bending angle of mold was controlled by a series of experiments. The spring-back of parts fabricated by using compensated mold was predicted by finite element analysis (ANSYS). The RCS of RAS shells were measured by compact range and predicted by physical optics method. The measured RCS data was well matched with the predicted data.

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets are becoming increasingly popular for strengthening deteriorated concrete bridges due to their excellent strength and stiffness-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and convenience of construction work. The purpose of this study is to compare the performance of CFRP-strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams and to develop a new design formula. Simple beams with 3 m span length were tested to investigate the effect of reinforcing steel ratio and CFRP-reinforcing ratio on the flexural behavior of strengthened RC beams. The test results were analyzed with the special emphasis on the failure mode, the maximum load, and the strain distribution in the section. It is shown that the strain of the strengthened beams is not linearly distributed in the section. A new design formula based on the non-linear distribution of the strain has been derived and showed that it has a good agreement with the various domestic and foreign test results.
The carbonization behaviors of CFRP fabricated with 2D-woven fabric and matrix phenolic resin have been studied. The changes in dimension were observed in the temperature range of 365-37$0^{\circ}C$ in the thickness direction, 118-12$0^{\circ}C$ in the normal direction each other by TMA analysis. Observation with the optical microscope shows that the formed cracks and pores during the fabrication of CFRP were propagated with the increase of pyrolysis temperaure. New cracks and pores were formed in the pyrolysis temperature range of 400-50$0^{\circ}C$ In line with the formation and propagation of cracks, porosity was increased and density was decreased rapidly in the pyrolysis temperature range of from 40$0^{\circ}C$ to 70$0^{\circ}C$. Therefore heating rate in the carbonization process need to be controlled carefully by intervals.

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites have high specific stiffness and high specific strength. Therefore, they are increasingly being use, instead of conventional metallic materials in the aviation and automobile industries, where there is a strong demand for lightweight materials. In aircraft, the fuselage is exposed to severe conditions of high temperatures and high humidity. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate the strength of CFRP composites under real conditions from the viewpoint of aircraft safety. In this study, CFRP specimens were immersed in distilled water at $75^{\circ}C$ for a long time. Then, tensile tests were performed on these specimens, and the fracture characteristics of the fractured surfaces were analyzed using SEM. A fatigue test was performed on specimens immersed for 300 days with R=0.1, and it was confirmed that the fatigue life deteriorated in immersed specimens compared to specimens that were not immersed.
This paper presents the fabrication and 3-point flexion testing of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite face/aluminum honeycomb core sandwich panels. Specimen sandwich panels were fabricated with three honeycomb types (3.18 mm, 4.76 mm, and 6.35 mm cell size) and three panel radii (flat, r = 1.6 m, r = 1.3 m). The curved sandwiches were fabricated normally with the core in the W-direction. The tensile mechanical properties of the CFRP $2{\times}2$ twill fabric face laminate were evaluated (modulus, strength, Poisson's ratio). The measured values are comparable to other CFRP fabric laminates. The flat sandwich 3-point flexion test core shear strength results were 11-30% lower than the manufacturer published data; the test set-up used may be the cause. With a limited sample size, the 1.3 meter panel curvature appeared to cause a 0.8-3.8% reduction in ultimate core shear strength compared to a flat panel.
This paper is to study the energy absorption characteristics of CF/Epoxy(Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Resin) laminated shell with the various curvatures subjected to transverse impact loadings under the low impact velocity in consideration of design of structural members for use of transportation machine, which are consisted of the characteristics of high stiffness, strength and lightweight. The curvature radius are associated with the energy absorption characteristics of CF/Epoxy laminated shell which is brittleness material. In all tests, maximum load of CF/Epoxy laminated plate is higher than that of laminated shell with curvature, but maximum deflection is lower. And then absorbed energy of laminated shell with curvature is higher than laminated plate(curvature radius is unlimited), As curvature radius is increased, the absorbed energy is increased in laminated shell with curvature.

In this paper, the estimation of dynamic interlaminar fracture toughness on fracture mode II in CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastics) laminates in made. Dynamic ENF(End Notched Flexure) apparatus used in this paper is manufactured by suing Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar. The static and impact load history in the CFRP specimen is measured by using manufactured dynamic ENF tester and 3-point bending test is carried out to find the load history. Also dynamic interlaminar fracture toughness can be found by using the J integral obrained from dynamic analysis in consideration of intertia-force effect.

Results of an experimental study on the manufacture and the mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced fly ash-cement composites are presented in this paper. The carbon fiber reinforced fly ash-cement composites using silica powder and a small amount of Ethylene vinyl acetate emulsion are prepared with carbon fiber, foaming agents and curing conditions. As a result, the manufacturing process technology of carbon fiber reinforced fly ash-cement composites is developed. And the mechanical properties such as compressive, tensile and flexural strengths and drying shrinkage of lightweight carbon fiber reinforced fly ash-cement composites are improved by using a small amount of Ethylene vinyle acetate emulsion. The development and applications of precast products and the design systems of lightweight carbon fiber reinforced fly ash-cement composites are expected in the near future.
An approach for the damage of delamination which is the major concern during mechanical working for composite laminate material is proposed based on linear elastic fracture mechanics. This paper presents method evaluating of damage crack length using by average thrust force with AE characteristics. Also, the relations of AE characteristics are obtained from delamination damages. We found the onset ply of the delamination and a critical energy release rate and expressed a stress intensity factor by AEcount equation.

It is well-known that the mechanical behavior of fiber-reinforced composites under hydrostatic pressure environment is different from that of atmospheric pressure environment. It is also known that the mechanical behavior of fiber-reinforced composites is affected by a strain rate. In this work, we investigated the effect of strain rate on the compressive elastic modulus, fracture stress, and fracture strain of carbon/epoxy composites under hydrostatic pressure environment. The material used in the compressive test was unidirectional carbon/epoxy composites and the hydrostatic pressures applied was 270㎫. Compressive tests were performed applying three strain rates of 0.05%/sec, 0.25%/sec, and 0.55%/sec. The results showed that the elastic modulus increased with increasing strain rate while the fracture stress was little affected by the strain rate. The results also showed that the fracture strain decreased with increasing strain rate.
