In order to remove sulfate(SO42-) and purify the Li2CO3, dissolution and recrystallization of crude Li2CO3 using distilled water and HCl solution was performed. When Li2CO3 was dissolved using distilled water, the amount of dissolved Li2CO3(wt.%) increased as the solution temperature decrease and showed about 1.50 wt.% at 2.5℃. In addition, when Na2CO3 was added and the Li2CO3 solution was recrystallized, the recrystallization(%) increased with increasing temperature, resulting in a 49.00 % at 95 ℃. On the other hand, when Li2CO3 was dissolved using HCl solution, there was no effect of reaction temperature. As the concentration of HCl solution increased, the amount of dissolved Li2CO3(wt.%) increased, indicating 7.10 wt.% in 2.0 M HCl solution. When the LiCl solution was recrystallized by adding Na2CO3, it exhibited a recrystallization(%) of 86.10 % at a reaction temperature of 70 ℃, and showed a sulfate ion removal(%) of 96.50 % or more. Finally, more than 99.10 % of Na and more than 99.90 % of sulfate were removed from the recrystallized Li2CO3 powder through water washing, and purified Li2CO3 with a purity of 99.10 % could be recovered.

The purposes of this study are to investigate the description of scientifically debatable carbonic acid in the Korean high school textbooks, characterize the physical properties of 'carbonic acid solutions' by using an MBL set-up and compare the properties with textual ones. Four different aqueous solutions of carbon dioxide have been prepared and analyzed: naturally aerated aqueous solution, dry ice-dissolving solution, $CO_2$-bubbling solution and commercial carbonic acid water. Experimental findings showed that pH and conductivity of these 4 solutions ranged from 3.85 to 5.66 and from 0.21 ${\mu}S$/cm to 272.1 ${\mu}S$/cm, respectively. Out of these solutions, the dissociation constant($K_{a1}$) of the bubbling solution at room temperature could be calculated to $5.7{\times}10^{-7}$ which value is comparable to the textual $4.3{\times}10^{-7}$ within experimental errors, which means that textual compound is not pure carbonic acid but the equilibrated mixture of carbonic acid and the aqueous solution of carbon dioxide. On the other hand, textual analysis showed that most of high school textbooks used carbonic acid as an example of weak acid and buffer solution of the blood but none of them distinguished the carbonic acid from the aqueous solution of carbon dioxide. Only one textbook, however, tiered two species in the chemical equation.

The purpose of study is to understand the possibility of biogrout of soil induced by bacteria. Microbial Calcium Carbonate Precipitation(MCP) has been analysed using the microorganism Bacillus Pasteurii. In order to understand the biogrout of soft ground treated with microbial calcium carbonate precipitation, four types of specimens(sterilization soil, non-sterilization soil, reaction solution and microorganism solution with pre-treatment mix and reaction solution and microorganism solution with post-treatment mix) were made. Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM), EDX and X-ray diffraction(XRD) analyses were performed on the soft ground specimens. On the basis of the preliminary results, it appears that microbial treatment methods using calcium carbonate precipitation may be possible to improve property of biogrout.

Amorphous calcium carbonate was prepared by wet chemical method and performed the control of their shape
using crystalline calcium carbonate that prepared from oyster shell by the $CO_2$ gas blowing method. As a result, amorphous
calcium carbonate was obtained by the dissolution process of crystalline calcium carbonate in the dil-HC1 solution, mixing
of sodium carbonate solution, precipitation and filtering with high speed. And using the amorphous calcium carbonate
of mud type, crystalline calcium carbonates with cubic, needle, spindle, spherical and plate shape were obtained in the
temperature rang of 2~$85^{\circ}C$ and reaction time range of 5~60 minute.

We prepared sodium carbonate impregnated activated carbon fiber and evaluated its availability for hydrogen sulfide removal by the comparison with the counterpart, sodium carbonate granular impregnated activated carbon. The sodium carbonate impregnated concentration and immersion duration were chosen as two primary parameters. First, the hydrogen sulfide adsorption capacity increased in proportion to the impregnated concentration up to 3 wt%, above which the sodium carbonate impregnated amount rarely showed an increase due to the pore filling effect for both cases. The optimal impregnated concentration was thus set to 3 wt%. Meanwhile, impregnated activated carbon fiber required only half of the immersion duration compared with granular impregnated activated carbon, while showing a 30% increase on the hydrogen sulfide removal capacity. The greater specific area of impregnated activated carbon fiber explained it. In conclusion, we evaluated advantage of preparation time and improved hydrogen sulfide adsorption capacity by impregnate sodium carbonate, which is capable of reacting with hydrogen sulfide chemically, onto the activated carbon fiber with improved specific area.
Magnesium silicate minerals such as serpentine [Mg3Si2O5(OH)4] have a high potential for the sequestration of CO2; thus, their reactivity toward dissolution under CO2-free and CO2-containing conditions in acidic solvents is a critical process with respect to their carbonation reactions. To examine the carbonation efficiency and dissolution mechanism of serpentine, hydrothermal treatment was performed to the starting material via a modified direct aqueous carbonation process at 100 and 150℃. The serpentine dissolution experiments were conducted in H2SO4 solution with concentration range of 0.3-1 M and at a CO2 partial pressure of 3 MPa. The initial pH of the solution was adjusted to 13 for the carbonation process. Under CO2-free and CO2-containing conditions, the carbonation efficiency increased in proportion to the concentration of H2SO4 and the reaction temperature. The leaching rate under CO2-containing conditions was higher than that under CO2-free conditions. This suggests that shows the presence of CO2 affects the carbonation reaction. The leaching and carbonation efficiencies at 150℃ in 1 M H2SO4 solution under CO2-containing conditions were 85 and 84%, respectively. The dissolution rate of Mg was higher than that of Si, such that the Mg : Si ratio of the reacted serpentine decreased from the inner part (approximately 1.5) to the outer part (less than 0.1). The resultant silica-rich layer of the reaction product ultimately changed through the Mg-depleted skeletal phase and the pseudo-serpentine phase to the amorphous silica phase. A passivating silica layer was not observed on the outer surface of the reacted serpentine.
