This study is aimed to increase the possibility of using the Christopher Alexander's pattern language. The methodology of this study is (i) to analyze the pattern language by using the network analysis tool in order to understand the complicate network structure of the pattern language, and (ii) to apply the Alexander's method of using the pattern language by using the network analysis tool (Gephi) and to examine the feasibility of the network analysis tool as a tool for using the pattern language. Firstly, as a result of analysing the pattern language, (i) the pattern language classified by pattern number is distinguished by the patterns of towns, buildings and construction, among which the pattern of buildings plays a key function in the networks; (ii) the buildings functions a medium connecting between the towns and the construction; and (iii) the pattern language is divided into 6 sub-modules, through which the user can select a pattern. Secondly, the result of using the network analysis tool as a tool for using the pattern language (i) suggests the new method of using the pattern language by using the network analysis tool (Gephi); (ii) makes it possible to easily figure out the characteristics of the links between the patterns; and (iii) increases the completeness of the pattern language by making it easy to find out the sub-patterns in selecting a pattern.

This study reviews the process of creating the patterns through the Christopher Alexander's books to discover the fundamental rules for creation of the pattern language. The essential ideas of 11 rules describing the characteristics of the pattern language are organized by keyword depending on the characteristics of each rule. Then, this study analyzes which keyword was applied importantly and how it had been developed chronologically in the Alexander's books. As a result, 5 keywords - reflection of cultural difference, reflection of human desires, solving the repeated problem, function suitable for principal purpose, and network structure - are applied to his early books in which the pattern language was theoretically developed, the pattern of traditional society was discovered and the network structure was developed. Another 5 keywords - user participation method, new problem solving, structure preserving transformation, post-mechanization method, and central invariant structure - are applied to the books in his mid-term after completion of the pattern theory which discover new pattern for contemporary society and apply the pattern language to time and space. In his later books which organize the theory of pattern language and suggest the direction for using the pattern language, 5 keywords - wholeness, post-mechanization method, user participation method, new problem solving, and structure preserving transformation - are applied. Users may use the pattern language more precisely if he/she considers the keywords of the early period in searching the patterns of existing environment, the keywords of the intermediate period in searching the patterns of new environment or in regard to time and space, and the keywords of the later period in considering direction of the application of the pattern language.

To complete the appropriate pattern language as a planning tool for suburban houses in Korea, this study reviews the characteristics in applying the pattern language to suburban houses in Korea by creating the pattern application examination chart regarding 110 patterns in architecture and evaluating and analyzing 24 examples in terms of the applicability of the patterns, the results of which are as set forth below. Firstly, when grouping the upper 31 patterns by similar characteristics, it was distinguished by the characteristics relating to (i) securing of lighting and viewing; (ii) placing of buildings and space and adjustment of inside and outside privacy through such placing; (iii) placing of proper motion line and functions of adjacent space according to such motion line; and (iv) determining of important space such as personal room, area for couple or children, staircase, entrance, hallway, etc. Secondly, when analyzing the reasons that the lower 41 patterns have not been applied, it was characterized by (i) the work space not suitable for suburban houses or the patterns suitable for commercial space; (ii) the patterns not suitable in Korea due to cultural differences; and (iii) the patterns whose applicability cannot be confirmed due to the limitation of examples and materials used in this study. Thirdly, the analysis of each pattern group (A through M) revealed that the pattern groups D and G are rarely related to suburban houses and J and M are patterns whose applicability cannot be determined in this study. Another characteristics is that the pattern groups B, E, F, I and L which obtain high scores in applicability are importantly reflected in planning for suburban houses in Korea. Fourthly, this study renders the average score of applicability, and the applicability rate, of the examples and confirms the number of the patterns applied in confirmity, patterns partially or potentially applied and patterns not applied at all.

본 논문은 크리스토퍼 알렉산더의 패턴 랭귀지를 이용하여 공공공간의 공간적 특성 분석을 실시하였다. 도시는 인간의 다양한 경험을 제공하는 장소이다. 도시의 공공공간은 역사를 통해 공공생활 번영에 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 그것은 한 도시 속 사람들과의 관계 속에서 소통, 문화행사, 상업 등을 위한 장소로 이루어졌다. 그러나 오늘날, 공공장소 및 공공생활의 다양한 활동은 감소되었다. 그 이유 중 하나는 도시의 장소가 계획되고 관리될 때 사용자의 요구를 무시했기 때문이다. 따라서 본 논문은 문헌 조사를 통해 공공공간의 역할과 유형을 정리하고 패턴 언어의 특징을 살펴보았다. 또한 공공공간의 공간적 특성을 제시하고 전문가그룹인터뷰(FGI : Focus Group Interview)를 통하여 적정한 패턴 언어를 분류하였다. 이를 통하여 서울 도심의 공공공간의 공간적 패턴을 알아보기 위하여 사례대상지를 종로구 기본계획에 기초하여 선정 후 분석하였다. 본 논문은 공공공간의 적합한 공간 구조의 특성 및 방향성을 제시하고 패턴 언어의 적용가능성을 살펴 보다 풍부한 도시공간을 조성하고자 한다.

1950년대부터 경제성장에 초점을 맞추어 진행된 중국의 도시재생사업은 도시의 획일화를 가져왔다. 이에 대한 개선을 위해 최근 각 지역의 문화적 특색을 살리면서 도시재생을 진행하는 문화적 도시재생으로 국가적 도시재생 정책이 전환되었으나, 아직 그 구체적 적용방법들은 아직 부족한 상황이다. 본 연구에서는 하남성의 도시의 주거형태에서 다수를 이루고 있는 아파트를 대상으로 하여, 도시재생에 있어서 구체적 활용이 가능한 공간계획 도구인 크리스토퍼 알렉산더의 패턴언어를 토대로 하남성의 문화적 환경에 맞추어 변형을 시도하였다. 먼저, 기본 패턴 언어에서 23개의 아파트 주택 관련 패턴언어를 선택하였다. 다음으로, 문헌연구를 통해 하남성 전통 주거문화의 7가지의 특징과 현재 아파트 거주자들의 의견을 조사하여 요구사항들을 도출하였다. 마지막으로, 23개 패턴언어를 정리한 중국 하남성의 주거문화 특징과 요구사항에 적합하게 변형하여 문화적 도시재생 관점에서 노후 아파트 재생을 위한 새로운 패턴언어를 개발하였다.

본 논문은 가로 활성화를 위한 가로환경디자인 분석으로 인사동길의 패턴 언어를 분석한 것이다. 보행자 가로, 공원, 광장과 같은 도시 공공공간은 급속한 도시화와 산업화로 인하여 증가하고 있다. 그러나 실제로 사용자의 행동 패턴을 만족하는 공간은 많지 않다. 이는 사람과 공공공간의 공간적 질에 대한 충분한 고려없이 형식적인 공급과 관리 방향에만 치중했기 때문이다. 본 연구의 목적은 크리스토퍼 알렉산더의 패턴 언어를 적용하여 인사동길의 분석을 통하여 활력이 넘치고 다양한 거리를 만들고, 지역의 특성을 부여하는 요소들을 찾는 것이다. 그러므로 시대별로 변화되어온 도시 가로환경의 가치인식 변화를 통하여 공공공간의 공간적 특성을 선별하고, 각각의 공간적 특성에 적합한 패턴 언어를 선별하여 가로환경디자인 분석을 위한 기준을 마련한다. 연구결과, 인사동길을 중심으로 패턴 언어와의 관계를 살펴보면 거리 활성화에 영향을 미치는 패턴 언어는 보행자 거리(100), 건물의 정면(122), 활동의 결절점(30) 등 16개로 분석되었다. 따라서 본 논문은 패턴 언어를 통하여 인사동길의 가로환경디자인 분석에 초점을 맞추고 가로활성화에 도움이 되는 가이드라인과 평가 기준을 제안하고자 한다.

본 연구는 공공공간의 공간적 특성 측면에서 공공공간 활성화를 위하여 고려되어야 하는 계획항목 및 지표들을 도출하고 공무원/학계 및 실무자 측면에서 중요도를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 공공공간의 공간적 특성에 따른 계획항목을 선행연구를 통하여 도출하고, 세부지표들을 크리스토퍼 알렉산더의 패턴언어에서 선별 후 FGI(Focus Group Interview)를 통하여 도출하고자 하였다. 도출된 지표는 전문가 설문을 통한 계층적 의사결정법(AHP:Analytic Hierachy Process)을 실시하여 중요도를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 공공공간의 공간적 특성의 중요도는 실무 전문가의 경우 접근성, 공공성, 연계성, 공간성, 쾌적성, 장소성 순으로 나타났으며, 공무원/학계는 접근성, 쾌적성, 장소성, 연계성, 공간성, 공공성 순으로 나타났다. 또한 종합분석 결과 우선순위에서 실무 전문가는 오픈스페이스의 위계를 가장 중요하게 인식했으며, 공무원/학계는 거리에 개방된 공간이 가장 중요하게 나타났다. 본 연구에서 도출된 결과는 향후 공공공간의 활성화를 위한 계획적인 고려사항 및 평가로 활용할 수 있는 지표로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
