  • The estimation of fatigue limit for the component with complicated shape is difficult than of standard fatigue specimen, due to complex test equipment. So, we substitute maximum principle stress from FEM results for fatigue limit diagram made by standard fatigue specimen. Then we can estimate endurance safety of component with high trust. The static stress analysis, the nonlinear contact stress analysis and the model analysis for turbine blade is performed by ANSYS ver. 5.6. the comparison of maximum static stress around hole with maximum contact stress between pun and hole can make the cause of fracture for turbine blade clear. The difference of fatigue limit between fatigue test by standard specimen and in-service mechanical components is due to surface roughness and machining condition etc. In in-service mechanical components, Goodman diagram has to consider surface roughness for failure analysis. To find fracture mechanism of torison-mounted blade in nuclear plant. This study performs the static stress, the nonlinear contact stress and the modal analysis on torison-mounted blade with finite element method and makes the estimation for safety of turbine blade.

  • Doosan has been developing a 5MW class gas turbine engine, DGT-5. Campbell diagram has been used for prediction of possible occurrence of resonances of rotating machinery. The Campbell diagram consists of blade natural frequency and excitation frequency. In this paper, modal characteristics of compressor and turbine blades are investigated and Campbell diagram is obtained. We calculated compressor and turbine blade's natural frequency using ANSYS tool. The result has been verified through test.

  • This paper relates to the flexural vibration analysis of slender spindle systems with multiple thin disks, supported by the ball bearings by means of the finite element method. Each system component is analytically modeled taking into account its flexibility and also the centrifugal effect especially for the disk. In order to show the rapid convergence rate and accuracy of the proposed approach, an experimental set-up is built to be versatile. In two distinct cases, its natural modes are numerically computed using only a small number of total element meshes as the shaft rotational speed is varied, and verified through experimental frequency response function obtained by the impact test.

  • After drilling operations at the offshore plant, crude oil is producted under high pressure. After that time, oil recovery is reduced, because the pressure of the pipe inside is low during the secondary produce. At that time injection sea water at the pipe inside through water injection pump that the device increase to recovery. A variety of mathematical analysis during the detailed design analysis was not made through the dynamics characteristic at the domestic company. 2D model has reliability of analysis results for the uncomplicated model. Also element and the node the number of significantly less than in the 3D model. So, the temporal part is very effective. In addition, depending on the quality of mesh 3D is a real model and FEM model occurs error. So, user needs a lot of skill. In this paper, a 2D finite element analysis was performed through the dynamics analysis and the study model was validated.

  • SIL-based optical disk drive will be promising candidate of next-generation storage devices. However, a near-field optical disk drive requires the robustness to external shock because of extremely small gap between SIL and media. Especially, high-level shock damages permanently to SIL and it makes difficulties in general application. To study the likelihood of failure, the shock analysis must be performed over all others. This research explores the dynamic characteristics of rotating disk through FEM which is compared to analytical solution and experimental modal analysis. We also develop the finite element model of an optical disk drive, which includes rubber mounts, sled base, rotating disk and pickup assembly, and simulate the shock response.

  • To ensure a safe operation of the prototype KGT-74 kW small gas turbine, vibrational reliabilities of the compressor 1st, 2nd, and 3rd stages and turbine blades have been estimated and reviewed. FE analyses have been carried out to obtain the natural vibration characteristics of the blades, and impact modal testings have been performed on every each one of the blades to measure their 1st natural frequencies. Then, the Campbell diagram analyses have been carried out to judge the safety of the blades from resonant failures up to 6k harmonics. Results show that the compressor 1st stage blade is exposed to a potential resonant failure with 3k harmonic around a rated speed of 30,000 rpm but that the other compressor 2nd and 3rd stages and turbine blades are safe from resonant failures. Finally, 27,900 rpm is selected as the safe operation limit for the KGT-74 ㎾ gas turbine relative to the blade vibrations.

  • We propose a finite element modeling method considering the ball bearing contact mechanism, and the developed method was verified through experimental and analytical results of inner and outer race-type rotor systems. A comparison of the proposed method with conventional method reveals that there is little difference in the results of the inner race-type rotor system, but there are considerable differences in the results of the outer race-type rotor system such that predictions of greater accuracy can be made. Therefore, the proposed method can be used for accurately predicting the dynamic characteristics of an outer race-type rotary machine.

  • To maximize power generation and reduce the construction cost of a commercial utility-grade wind turbine, the size of the wind turbine should be large. The initial design of the 12 MW University of Ulsan(UOU) Floating Offshore Wind Turbine(FOWT) was carried out based on the 5 MW National Renewable Energy Laboratory(NREL) offshore wind turbine model. The existing 5 MW NREL offshore wind turbines have been expanded to 12 MW UOU FOWT using the geometric law of similarity and then redesigned for each factor. The resonance of the tower is the most important dynamic responses of a wind turbine, and it should be designed by avoiding resonance due to cyclic load during turbine operations. The natural frequency of the tower needs to avoid being within the frequency range corresponding to the rotational speed of the blades, 1P, and the blade passing frequency, 3P. To avoid resonance, vibration can be reduced by modifying the stiffness or mass. The direct expansion of the 5 MW wind turbine support structure caused a resonance problem with the tower of the 12 MW FOWT and the tower length and diameter was adjusted to avoid a match of the first natural frequency and 3P excitation of the tower.

  • Water injection pump outputs oil with high pressure during this process, seawater is injected into the well to recover the well pressure and maintain high productivity. A water injection pump has high productivity, and therefore, it serves as a key piece of equipment in marine plants. In this light, water injection pumps are being studied widely in industry. In this study, the rotor dynamics is analyzed to determine the natural frequency according to the bearing stiffness and operation speed change. This study aims to establish the pump reliability through critical speed, stability, and unbalance response analysis.
