  • This paper proposes a novel sensorless control scheme for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) by using a parallel reduced-order Extended Kalman Filter. The proposed scheme can obtain rotor position and speed by back-EKF that is estimated by reduced-order ETD and save computation time great)y due to using a parallel structure that works by turns every sampling time. Therefore, proposed scheme has merits of conventional EKF, and problems of parameter sensitivity are partially overcome. And proposed scheme can safely estimate rotor speed and position by using new algorithms according to driving regions. Experimental results show the validity of the proposed estimation technique, and to verify the merit of the proposed scheme, a comparison of a new reduced-order EKF algorithm with a conventional EKF algorithm has been also made in terms of computation time.

  • This paper is aimed at developing an location tracking for mobile station employing currently available mobile communication network of cellular phone and PCS(Personal Communication System). When the location tracking of mobile stations is in services, the services such as Emergency-119, crime investigation, effective urban traffic management or the safety protection of Alzheimer's patients, ran be available. This paper is to track the mobile station in communication network in NLOS environment. To achieve reduction of the standard noise, Kalman filter is used. In terms of the distance, positions are located by using TOA and TDOA methods in the environment that removes NLOS bias in the measured data. And then smoothing method is used. to achieve reduction of the position error values

  • In this paper, we present a design and implementation of three dimensional pointing device using Inertial Navigation System(INS) that acquires coordinates and location information without environmental dependancy. The INS measures coordinates based on the data from gyroscope and accelerometer and corrects the measured data from accelerometer using Kalman-Filter. In order to implement the idea of three dimensional pointing device, we choose a three dimensional Space-recognition mouse and use RFIC wireless communication to send a measured data to receiver for printing out the coordinate on display equipment. Based on INS and Kalman-Filter theoretical knowledge, we design and implement a three dimensional pointing device and verified the usability as an input device that can capture a human's move. also, we describe the applicability of this device in ubiquitous computing environment.

  • The paper describes an application of unscented Kalman filter(UKF) for attitude estimation of an unmanned vehicle(UV), which is equipped with a low-cost attitude heading reference system (AHRS). The roll, pitch and yaw required at the correction stage of the UKF are calculated from the measurements of acceleration and geomagnetic field. The roll and pitch are attributed to the measurement of acceleration, while yaw is calculated from the geomagnetic field measurement. Since the measurement of geomagnetic field is vulnerable to distortion by hard-iron and soft-iron effects, the calculated yaw has more uncertainty than the calculated roll and pitch. To reduce the uncertainty of geomagnetic field measurement, the proposed method estimates bias in the geomagnetic field measurement and compensates for the bias for more accurate calculation of yaw. The proposed method is verified through navigation experiments of a UV in a test pool. The results show that the proposed method yields more accurate attitude estimation; thus, it results more accurate location estimation.

  • We studied the nonlinear estimation problem of extended Kalman filter and appled this method to LEO satellite system. Through this method the performance of extended Kalman filter was analyzed. There were certain presumption taken; J2 and atmospheric drag were simply considered in the dynamic model of LEO satellite and the system noise error of $\sigma_r$=150m, $\sigma_r$=10m/s was presumed in the observation data. As results of this simulation, the overall state estimation errors of extended Kalman filter were within the presumed error range and also the ability of performance was maximized when the condition was the state process noise Q has the 1/10 level of covariance matrix Po.

  • In this paper, an experimental optical head tracker system is designed and constructed. The system is composed of the infrared LEDs and two infrared CCD cameras to filter out the interference of another light in the limited environment like the cockpit. Then the optical head tracker algorithm is designed by using the feature detection algorithm and the 3D motion estimation algorithm. The feature detection algorithm, used to obtain the 2D position coordinates of the features on the image plane, is implemented by using the thresholding and the masking techniques. The 3D motion estimation algorithm which estimates the motion of a pilot's head is implemented by using the extended Kalman filter (EKF). Also, we used the precise rate table to verify the performance of the experimental optical head tracker system and compared the rotational performance of this system with the inertial sensor.

  • Satellite formation flying can provide the platform for interferometric observation to acquire the precise data and ensure the flexibility for space mission. This paper presents development and verification of an algorithm to estimate the baseline between formation flying satellites. To estimate a baseline(relative navigation) in real time, EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) and UKF(Unscented Kalman Filter) are used. Measurements for updating a state-vector in Kalman Filter are GPS single difference data. In results, The position errors in estimated baseline are converged to less than ${\pm}1m$ in both EKF and UKF. And as using the two types of Kalman filter, it is clear that the unscented Kalman filter shows a relatively better performance than the extended Kalman filter by comparing an efficiency to the model which has a non-linearity.

  • This paper presents system identification of a single tilt wing UAV. A Modified Equation Error Method(MEEM) and Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) are used for the identification of a single tilt wing UAV system in frequency-domain and time-domain, respectively. Simulated flight data is obtained from CNUX-3's vertical mode linear simulation with realistic sensor noise. System identification performance is analyzed with respect to a variety of design parameters of the MEEM. Also, High accuracy Fourier Transform(HFT) is applied to enhance the performance of MEEM. The results of the MEEM is compared with those of the EKF. Design parameters of the MEEM and initial conditions of the EKF are decided from optimization.
