  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of stress on the relationship between oral health behaviors and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in the elderly. We analyzed 8148 subjects aged 65 or older who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2010-2015). All individuals were asked about their socioeconomic history, general health, and oral health behaviors (the frequency of tooth brushing, regular dental check-ups, and use of interdental cleaners). In the results, HRQOL was low in the elderly from a low socioeconomic class, or with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or poor oral health behaviors. A partial mediating effect from stress was confirmed on the relationship between oral health behaviors and HRQOL. In conclusion, HRQOL was associated with oral health behaviors, with a mediating effect from stress. Therefore, it is necessary that a convergence health promotion program should be planned with an oral health education program and a stress management program for the elderly.

All tooth were checked using microhardness tester and the calcium (Ca) and phosphorous (P) concentration by electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) analysis for the 4 weeks. The collected data was analysed using the statistical software program SPSS, 20.0. The applied enamel of premary teeth with 0.243% fluoridated toothpaste resulted in significant differences in the microhardness values (p>0.05). The Ca and P concentrations of applied premary teeth with fluoridated toothpaste were also significant difference in norm wt% (p>0.05). As a results, a increasing the surface microhardness of the premary teeth and providing a remineralizing effect by increased Ca and P concentrations.

The less the frequency of brushing, the higher the DMFT index. Negative correlation was statistically significant. With incorrect brushing method, the less the frequency, the higher the DMFS index, Negative correlation was statistically significant. When the tooth brushing room was being implemented, O'leary index became low, negative correlation was statistically significant. As a result, in order to continue the effective operation of tooth brushing room, constant supervision and monitoring on students should be acutely needed by a principal, a school nurse and teachers in charge. • This study aimed to identify the association between each stage of Community periodontal index of treatment needs (CPITN) and oral health behaviors. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed on the data obtained from 11,002 adults aged between 19 and 79 years, using data from the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. When interdental care products such as floss or interdental brush were used, the risk of CPITN1 to CPITN3 and periodontitis was significantly reduced. Brushing more than 3 times a day significantly reduced the risk for CPITN1 and CPITN2, and dental check-ups reduced the risk for CPITN1, CPITN2, and periodontitis. There were differences in related factors depending on the stage of CPITN and periodontitis. Therefore, it is essential to include training on the use of interdental care products in oral health education. In addition, it will be helpful educate subjects on select oral health behaviors based on their periodontal status.
