In this study, various field and laboratory tests were performed to investigate the characteristics of shear strength and bearing behavior to be considered in the estimation of stability and trafficability in early stage of stabilization process in marine clay dredged deposit. Site characterization was carried out to grasp the basic properties of the deposit. Field vane test, unconfined compression test and direct shear test were conducted to evaluate the shear strength distribution for varied depths, and the characteristics of shear strength and stress-strain behavior of the crust layer. Plate load tests were also performed to estimate the bearing capacity and to assess load-settlement behavior and failure pattern of the deposit. The bearing capacity was also estimated using previously proposed methods for double-layered clay deposit. The estimated bearing capacity was compared with the results of the plate load tests and then, the applicability of the estimation method was discussed.
This study was conducted to test the harvesting operation of two kinds of rice varieties such as Milyang #15 and Tong-il with a imported two furrow Japanese combine and was performed to find out the operational accuracy of it, the adaptability of this machine, and the feasibility of supplying this machine to rural area in Korea. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows; 1. The harvesting test of the Milyang #15 was carried out 5 times from the optimum harvesting operation was good regardless of its maturity. The field grain loss ratio and the rate of unthreshed paddy were all about 1 percent. 2. The field grain loss of Tong-il harvested was increased from 5.13% to 10.34% along its maturity as shown in Fig 1. In considering this, it was needed that the combine mechanism should be improved mechanically for harvesting of Tong-il rice variety. 3. The rate of unthreshed paddy of Tong-il rice variety of which stem was short was average 1.6 percent, because the sample combine used in this study was developed on basisof the long stem variety in Japan, therefore some ears owing to the uneven stem of Tong-il rice could nat reach the teeth of the threshing drum. 4. The cracking rates of brown rice depending mostly upon the revolution speed of the threshing drum(240-350 rpm) in harvesting of Tong-il and Milyang #15 were all below 1 percent, and there was no significance between two varieties. 5. Since the ears of Tong-il rice variety covered with its leaves, a lots of trashes was produced, especially when threshed in raw materials, and the cleaning and the trashout mechanisms were clogged with those trashes very often, and so these two mechanisms were needed for being improved. 6. The sample combine of which track pressure was $0.19kg/cm^2$ could drive on the soft ground of which sinking was even 25cm as shown in Fig 3. But in considering the reaping height adjustment, 5cm sinking may be afford to drive the combine on the irregular sinking level ground without any readjustment of the resaping height. 7. The harvesting expenses per ha. by the sample combine of which annual coverage area is 4.7 ha. under conditions that the yearly workable days is 40, percentage of days being good for harvesting operation is 60%, field efficiency is 56%, working speed is 0.273m/sec, and daily workable hours is 8 hrs is reasonable to spread this combine to rural area in Korea, comparing to the expenses by the conventional harvesting expenses, if mechanical improvement is supplemented so as to harvest Tong-il rice. 8. In order to harvest Tong-il rice, the two furrow combine should be needed some mechanical improvements that divider can control not to touch ears of paddy, the space between the feeding chain and the thrshing drum is reduced, trash treatment apparatus must be improved, fore and rear adjust-interval is enlarged, and width of track must be enlarged so as to drive on the soft ground.

In order to development the construction and dimension of fishing gear for gizzard shad coastal purse seine, first of all investigated to the sinking speed and underwater geometry of net, behaviour of fish school to the net during the fishing operation In the field. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. Average sinking speed of net was 13cm/sec in bunt, 9.0cm/sec and 9.5cm/sec in 170m and 280m of center, 4.9cm/sec in end wing side, therefore was fastest in start of shooting and decreased gradually during the shooting process. 2. The most of leadline was reached in bottom from the shooting immediately to hauling time and the mean depth of timber bar used equipment for the escaping prevention of fish school was within the 2.7m. 3. The fish school of gizzard shad was appearanced higher density and remained to the most time in bottom than the surface and repeated to vortical movement, and its tendency to distinct in rapid time of tide current. 4. Behaviour of fish school in the net was showed to the vortical movement by sinking and rising immediately with the shooting of net and then divide with the two shape to follow round the wall of net and no patterns straightly movement in the net, and tendency easily catched in fish school of the wall of net. 5. Escaping of fish school in the gap of wing side was to busy after that seting the timber bar, therefore its function for escaping prevention of fish school was very lowed. 6. Escaping behaviour of fish school was differenced with the depth of fishing ground, the above 20m escaped to busy through the below in ledline because the sinking speed of fish school is fast than the net.

Drilled shafts are a common foundation solution for large concentrated loads. Such piles are generally constructed by drilling through softer soils into rock and the section of the shaft which is drilled through rock contributes most of the load bearing capacity. Drilled shafts derive their bearing capacity from both shaft and base resistance components. The length and diameter of the rock socket must be sufficient to carry the loads imposed on the pile safely without excessive settlements. The base resistance component can contribute significantly to the ultimate capacity of the pile. However, the shaft resistance is typically mobilized at considerably smaller pile movements than that of the base. In addition, the base response can be adversely affected by any debris that is left in the bottom of the socket. The reliability of base response therefore depends on the use of a construction and inspection technique which leaves the socket free of debris. This may be difficult and costly to achieve, particularly in deep sockets, which are often drilled under water or drilling slurry. As a consequence of these factors, shaft resistance generally dominates pile performance at working loads. The efforts to improve the prediction of drilled shaft performance are therefore primarily concerned with the complex mechanisms of shaft resistance development. The shaft resistance only is concerned in this study. The nature of the interface between the concrete pile shaft and the surrounding rock is critically important to the performance of the pile, and is heavily influenced by the construction practices. In this study, the influences of asperity characteristics such as the heights and angles, the strength characteristics and elastic constants of surrounding rock masses and the depth and length of rock socket, et. al. on the shaft resistance of drilled shafts are investigated from elasto-plastic analyses( FLAC). Through the parametric studies, among the parameters, the vertical stress on the top layer of socket, the height of asperity and cohesion and poison's ratio of rock masses are major influence factors on the unit peak shaft resistance.

The subsidence of ground in urban area can be caused by the occurrence of the cavity and the change in ground volumetric water content. The objective of this study is the detection of abnormal area of ground in urban area where the cavity or the change in ground volumetric water content is occurred by the ground penetrating radar signal. GPR survey is carried out on the test bed with a circular buried object. From the GPR survey, the signals filtered by the bandpass filtering are measured, and the methods consisting of gain function, time zero, background removal, deconvolution and display gain are applied to the filtered signals. As a result of application of the signal processing methods, the polarity of signal corresponds with the relation of electrical impedance of the cavity and the ground in test bed. In addition, the relative permittivity calculated by GPR signal is compared with that of predicted by volumetric water content of the test bed. The relative permittivities obtained from two different methods show similar values. Therefore, the abnormal area where the change in ground volumetric water content is occurred can be detected from the results of the GPR survey in case the depth of underground utilities is known. Signal processing methods and estimation of relative permittivity performed in this study may be effectively used to detect the abnormal area of ground in urban area.

In order to estimate behavior of soil mass which is located straight up of reinforced concrete culvert, Ritz method and FEM were applied and arching effects between the soil mass and adjacent soil were considered for the analyses. Analysis results obtained from the Ritz method and finite element method were compared with analytical solution. In the case of estimating nodal forces considered in FEM, caution is needed that shear stress depending on depth from ground surface should be reflected regardless of local coordinate system. Comparing the displacements computed from Ritz method with those of the analytic solution, it is seen that as the power of assumed displacement function increases, differences between the computed displacements and those of analytic solution decreases. It seems that displacements of FEM becomes closer to those of analytical solution as the number of elements are increased. It is seen that stresses computed from the Ritz method don't get closer to those of the analytic solution as the power of assumed displacement function. Stresses from FEM become closer to those of analytic solution as the number of elements are increased. Comparing the analysis results from the Ritz method and FEM with those of analytic solution, it can be seen that FEM is more reliable than Ritz method.
In this study it was analyzed by 2-D FEM and 3-D FEM to evaluate the ground reinforceing effect of steel pipe reinforced multi -step grouting (SPRG) technique and the behavior of ground in the vicinity using the nonlinear FEM program for the ground condition of alluvium located on the top of tunnel applied by SPRG technique. It was found that the nonlinear 3-D analysis performed better than 2-D analysis in evaluating the usefulness of the SPRG technique, and it was also found that the safety was relatively secured by the stiffness of steel pipe to distribute the concentrated stress in the tunnel faceing. It was reported that the change of settlement on the top of tunnel becomes about 40% of the total expected settlement before tunnel faceing reaches tunnel gauging point, and 60% of the total expected settlement while tunnel facing passes tunnel gauging point and takes a distance about tunnel diameter. With the aid of the SPRG technique the control range of displacement and stress of the ground in the vicinity could be reached up to tunnel top, namely depth ratio from 0.38 to 0.83 or 2D(D : tunnel diameter) before the tunnel facing, and about 20% of settlement control in this particular case was possible.
The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the construction performances and economical evaluation of the self-compacting concrete in actual site work after selecting the optimum mix proportions according to cementitious materials. Slag cement type of 46.5% slag powder and belite cement of 51.4% $C_2S$ content, lime stone powder as binders are selected for site experiment including water cement ratio. Also, test items for optimum mix proportion are as followings ; (1) Slump flow, 500 mm reaching time, V-type flowing time and U-box height (2) Setting time, bleeding, shortening depth and adiabatic temperature rising (3) Mixing time in plant (4) Concrete quantity and cost, quality control in actual concrete work. As test results, (4) Optimum water-cement ratio ; Slag cement type 41.0% and belite cement 51.0% (2) Setting time and bleeding finishing time of slag cement are faster, bleeding content of slag cement is higher, shortening depth and adiabatic temperature rising of belite cement type are lower (3) Optimum mixing time in batcher plant is 75 seconds and concrete productive capacity is about $100{\sim}110m^3/hr$. (4) Belite cement type is lower than slag cement type in material cost 14.0%, and concrete quantity in actual concreting work save 3.3% in case of belite cement type. Therefore, self-compacting concrete of belite cement type is definitely superior to that of slag cement type in various test items without compressive strength development.
To increase the structural integrity of concrete box culvert good compaction by the dynamic compaction roller with bi9 capacity is as effective as good backfill materials. It is needed for effective compaction that a compaction roller closes to concrete structure with high frequency. However structural distress of the culvert could be occur due to the excessive earth pressure by great dynamic compaction load. To investigate the characteristics of Induced stress by compaction, a box culvert was constructed with changing cushion materials and compaction methods. Two types of cushion material such as tire rubber chip and EPS(Expanded Polystyrene) were used as cushion panels and they are set on the culverts before backfill construction. Laboratory test result of cushion material says that the value of dynamic elastic modulus of rubber is lesser than that of EPS. On the other hand, material damping of rubber material is greater than that of EPS. In most case, dynamic compaction rollers with 10.5 ton weights were used and vibration frequency was applied 30Hz for the great compaction energy. This paper presents the main results on the characteristics of dynamic earth pressures during compaction. The amounts of induced dynamic pressures$(\Delta\sigma\;h)$ by compaction are affected with construction condition such as compaction frequency, depth of pressure cell, distance between roller and the wall of culvert and roller direction. Based on the measured values dynamic lateral pressure on the culverts, it could be said that orthogonal direction of roller to the length of culvert is more effective to compaction efficiency than parallel direction.

In this study, the numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the behavior characteristics of side of rock socketed drilled shafts varying the loading condition at the pile head. The difference of behavior characteristics of side resistance is also evaluated with the effects of modelling of asperity.
