A Study on LEED v3(2009) Sustainable Neighborhood Development - Focused on LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED v3(2009)에서의 친환경 단지 개발에 관한 연구 - LEED for Neighborhood Development를 중심으로)

  • Sustainability became the keyword of our society worldwide, and it is undoubtful that buildings are mainly responsible for green house gas emission and energy consumption. Responding to current needs, US Green Building Council has launched the first LEED rating system in 1998. Since then, LEED has been evolved and it has multiple sub-system categorized by project types. This study aims to analyze characteristics of sustainable neighborhood development and to suggest methodology for establishing certification system in Korea. First, LEED-ND 2009(LEED for Neighborhood Development) was addressed with certified projects by US Green Building Council. After that, LEED-NC 2009(LEED for New Construction) was compared with green building certification criteria in Korea to find out unforeseen aspects by each system, in terms of sustainable neighborhood development. As a result of this study, sustainable neighborhood development requires a transition of architects' responsibility beyond building design. Building technology has been advanced at extremely fast pace, however, applying techniques to individual architecture would not make our town sustainable. This study provided basic resources to understand that creating sustainable neighborhood is social phenomenon and more studies should be undertaken to establish Green Neighborhood Certification Criteria in Korea.

A Study on Management Condition and Improvement of Artificial Greens in GBCS-Certified Apartments through the Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE를 통한 친환경건축물 인증 공동주택 인공환경 녹화 관리 실태 및 개선방안 연구)

  • This study aims to suggest ways to improve sustainability on housing complexes. This study sampled eight housing projects in Seoul and GyeongGi-Do in Korea, which were completed in June 2007 and June 2008. Then, are retention and maintenance on "constructed greens for ecological environment" including "green structures substitutes retaining walls", "green roofs", and "green walls." Study methods are field investigations of the sampled sites, and Post Occupancy Analysis. Major findings were; 1) "constructed greens" are not well retained in more sites and and this implies the GBCS(Green Building Certification System) does not meet its objectives well, 2) User showed lower user satisfaction to "constructed greens". User satisfaction concerning "green structures substitute retaining walls" was higher than the satisfaction on the other constructed green type. Satisfaction Assessment Criteria lower 1han average were "level of quality", "meet the design objectives", "vegetation management status", "vegetation maintenance". 3) User satisfaction was strongly correlated on the level of quality factor of "constructed green". In addition, tue other factors are the significant correlations between the satisfactions. The present GBCS has inadequate assessment standards for maintenance, which lead to lower the entire satisfaction. Therefore, periodic recertification system, education and information providing for the managing personals, and incentives for good maintenance or disincentive for poor maintenance of the "constructed greens" are suggested to improve the GBCS.

Assessment of Energy Efficiency and Nutrient Balance in Organic Rice Farming Area (벼유기농업단지 에너지효율 및 양분수지 평가)

  • Energy efficiency and nutrient balance are good methods for environmental assessment of the environmentally-friendly agriculture. The objectives of this study were 1) to estimate the energy efficiency and nutrient balance of the organic rice farming, and 2) to suggest a solution to improvement the energy efficiency and nutrient balance. The set of estimation was performed at the organic rice farming area (8.9 ha) in Wanju-gun during the paddy cultivation period from 2006 to 2007. The organic farming complex consists of four weeding methods using 1) duck, 2) apple snail, 3) duck and apple snail and 4) hands and machinery. Results from this estimation should that the organic rice farming area was less efficient than conventional rice farming. The efficiency of organic farming area in 2006 was higher than in 2007. For the calculation of the nutrient balance, the N, P and K contents of input materials (cattle manure, milk vetch, mixed oilcake, rice bran, rice straw and barley straw) and output (farm products) were analysed. Annual environmental loads of N, $P_2O_5$ and $K_2O$ were estimated at 4.4 kg/10a, 13.8 kg/10a and 14.5 kg/10a, respectively. Cattle manure had the largest portion among the inputs items and nutrient concentration of cattle manure was high. Thus energy efficiency and nutrient balance depend on cattle manure input. Therefore it is necessary to control the manure input to improve the efficiency of organic rice farming.

  • In green building certificated housing complex, although various planning factors in terms of 'Energy resource and Environmental impact' were adopted, the residents' consciousness for their economical and psycholgical effect has not been found. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out the usability of environment-friendly factors, with regard to the aspects of 'energy resource and environment impact' and residents, consciousness for them in order to provide the useful information to design the user-oriented green building house complex better than previous ones. the finding were summarized as follows: 1)Increasing awareness of 'green building certificated housing complex', Resident should feel contribution to the environment. 2)When mass housing planning, the development of sensible certification is required. 3)Green building certificated housing complex should change from 'certification for the Financial compensation' to 'certification for the Contribution to the environment'.
