  • In this study, It was developed an monitoring cracks system based on image processing techniques in order to measure cracks, which are major damages in concrete, and to convert them into a database. The crack monitoring system consists of crack image captured equipment and a crack detection and analysis software. This system provides objective and quantitative data by replacing the conventional visual inspection. The crack detection algorithm w as verified through an indoor test using virtual cracks, and the amount of crack detection and crack width change was monitored by applying it to the self-healing repair mortar construction site. In the case of the crack width detected through image analysis, the maximum difference from the actual crack width was 0.0334mm. It was possible to detect microcracks of 0.1mm or less, and the effect of crack healing over time of the self-healing repair mortar was confirmed trough the field test.

  • In this study, self-healable waterborne polyurethane (SH-WPU) as shoes and coating materials with self-healable disulfide functionalities was synthesized by mixing polyether polyol to impart excellent durability and heat resistance and polycarbonate polyol to impart excellent mechanical properties. The synthesized SH-WPU was characterized by fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and physical and self-healing properties were confirmed through universal testing machine (UTM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurements. Tensile strength and hardness were increased and elongation was decreased by using polycarbonate polyol. In addition, as a result of comparison of thermal properties, thermal stability has been increased as the content of polycarbonate polyol increased. The healing efficiency showed the highest efficiency when poly(tetramethylene ether)glycol : polycarbonate polyol = 0.75 : 0.25, and it was confirmed that the damaged part was healed through surface observation using a microscope and SEM.

  • This study was conducted to develop self-healing ability of concrete so that inspection could be available even in the event of minute cracks without complex works at any time for more economic concrete structure maintenance and longevity. A completely different method has been carried out in comparison with many of similar researches on self-healing concrete. This is a basic study on the development of self-healing concrete using microbial biomineralization. Compounds were generated except for cells by precipitation reaction of CaC$O_3$ during the microbial metabolism and we examined the use as a binder that hardens the surface of sand using biomineralization that Sporosarcina pasteurii precipitates CaC$O_3$. In result, the formation of new mineral and hardening of sand surface could be verified partly, and it was available for cracks to be repaired by calcite with organic (microorganism) and inorganic (CaC$O_3$) complex structure through the basic experiment a little bit. Therefore the use of biomineralization by this sort of microbial metabolism for concrete structure helps to develop absolute repair-concrete like this concrete with microorganism. The effect of microbial application will be one of the most important research tasks having influence on not only repair for concrete structure but also development of new materials able to reduce environmental problems.

  • The domestic marine healing industry is undergoing significant revitalization efforts, with a focus on understanding the efficacy and effectiveness of marine healing resources. This study establishes utilization and management standards through a detailed analysis of the active components within well-recognized marine healing mud materials. Samples of mud materials were collected from domestic tidal flats. These samples exhibited an average composition of 7.87% sand, 74.95% silt, and 17.17% clay, with a combined mud content (silt+clay)(silt+clay) consistently exceeding 90%. Notably, SiO2 emerged as the most prevalent effective ingredient at 68.4%, followed by Al2O3 (13.3%)>Fe2O3 (4.0%)>K2O (2.9%)>Na2O (2.3%)>MgO (1.6%)>CaO (1.0%)>TiO2 (0.7%), in terms of average content. Subsequently, through an analysis of effective ingredients, Si, Al, Fe, K, Na, Mg, and Ca were identified as elements demonstrating significant functionality. Among these, key indicator ingredients were selected for quality control, all of which were found to possess efficacious properties. Notably, K, Mg, and Ca exhibited particularly high concentrations. Based on these findings and referencing existing literature, it is recommended that domestic tidal flat mud resources earmarked for utilization as marine healing resources should possess a raw material mud content of no less than 70.0%. Moreover, the cumulative index components K2O+MgO+CaO should meet or exceed a threshold of 5.0% for optimal effectiveness.

  • Crack control is essential to increase the durability of concrete significantly. Healing of crack can be controlled by rehydration of unreacted clinkers at the crack surface. In this paper, by comparing the results of isothermal calorimetry test and regression analysis, the Parrot & Killoh's cement hydration model was verified and clink er hydration model was proposed. The composition and quantification of hydration products were simulated by combining kinematic hydration model and thermodynamic model. Hydration simulation was conducted using the verified and proposed hydration model, and the simulation was performed by the substitution rate of clink er. The type and quantity of the final hydration product and healing product were predicted and, in addition, the optimal cementitious material of self-healing concrete was selected using the proposed hydration model.

  • This study examined the wounds and healing of the character as a woman in Samuel Beckett's play, Happy Days, through a microscopic approach by focusing on her inner I, and to study how she tries to heal her wounds. Winnie in Happy Days spends hard times not recognizing her internal wounds and pains. By facing her wounds and pains, however, she starts the process of self-healing, mainly through communicating and sharing her sorrows with her past inner child. Winnie's positive and optimistic character appears to change Willie's behaviors, which may be a positive sign that her wounds and pains will possibly be healed. In conclusion, Winnie has a chance to face her inner wounds and pains while interacting and communicating with her husband Willie, and she is slowly heading for healing her wounded inner I.

  • In this study, we have investigated the effect of photobiomodulation (PBM) on corneal wound healing, using a low-power light-emitting diode (LED) at different wavelengths. We found that LEDs with wavelengths ranging from 623 to 940 nm had no significant cytotoxic effects on corneal epithelial cells. The effect of PBM on promoting cell migration was analyzed by scratch assay, and it was found that PBM at 623 nm significantly increased cell migration and promoted wound healing. Furthermore, the expression of genes related to cell migration and wound healing was analyzed, and it was found that PBM at 623 nm upregulated the expression of the genes FGF-1 and MMP2, which are known to promote cell proliferation and extracellular matrix degradation. These findings suggest that PBM with low-powered light at specific wavelengths, particularly 623 nm, could be utilized to treat corneal injury.

  • In the past, hospitals were planned with a minimum of public space for the sole purpose of treatment. On the other hand, modern hospitals have more public space as the importance of the healing environment increases and are planned taking into consideration the patients, guardians, and medical staff. In addition, the lobby shape is developed from a HALL type and planned as a STREET type or CONCOURSE type, increasing the public area. Unlike past hospitals, which were used as reception, waiting, and procedure spaces, modern hospitals are used as commercial, hobby, and cultural space. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the healing environment of the hospital lobby based on the shape of the plane surface by deducting the elements of general hospitals' healing environment from preceding studies as a framework. The hospital lobby is an important place where many actions occur. Therefore, 3 types of cases were evaluated based on the plane form. As a result of the study, the STREET type showed a better healing environment than the HALL type, but the accessibility, roof garden, and resting place showed similar results. Because the case was based on a large general hospital, which had sufficient planned space, the factor has little to do with the style of the lobby. Among the STREET types, the linear atrium showed a better result in terms of the sense of space and inflow effect of natural lighting than the four-sided atrium because the linear atrium has large open volume ratio. When the lobby plane is the HALL type, a cross section of the courtyard had a large open volume ratio. Therefore, the shape of the cross section is as important as the plane form of the lobby.
