  • This study aims at providing the basic data to help establish the right identity of dental hygienist and develop the work of dental hygienists, and thereby investigating the effect of patients' perception of dental hygienist on their social demand of dental hygienist, by conducting a survey of 300 patients visiting dentists around Busan-Gyeongnam region from April 7, 2012 to April 25, 2012. The collected data is statistically analyzed by SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Science 14.0. SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). First, I analyzed the frequency by suggesting the demographic and descriptive characteristics of data, and conducted t-test and One-Way ANOVA at 5% of significance level to figure out the degree of perception and social demand of dental hygienists depending on customers' reason for visiting dentists, and also conducted regression analysis to find the effect of the perception of dental hygienist on patient's social demand of dental hygienist. The result suggests that as the perception of the dental hygienists' role, the social demand for dental hygienists' image increases, but as perception of dental hygienists' image increases, the social demand of dental hygienists' image decreases. Therefore, it suggests that as the knowledge about dental hygienists increases, patients demand their service more, while the perception of their image lowers the social demand for their image. It turns out that as the knowledge of dental hygienists increase, the social demand for the knowledge also increases.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting dentists' attitudes and dental hygienists' services on dental anxiety in adults. The subjects were 300 adults older than 20 years of age living in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Daejeon, and Daegu. Data were collected using structured questionnaires. Among the distributed questionnaires, 225 respondents were selected as subjects, excluding 74 people who did not answer and 1 person who was not faithful. Data were analyzed using statistical software with a t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression. As a result, the gender was slightly higher in women (54.7%) than in men, and the last dental visit was less than one year in 59.6% of respondents. Most of the respondents' educational level was higher than college level (79.1%), and the monthly income was less than 2 million won in 53.8 of respondents. This study showed that distrust of dentists affected dental anxiety and anxiety stimulation. Higher reliability of the dentist was correlated with less dental anxiety in patients. Dental anxiety showed statistically significant results in dentist subcategories of patient slight and dentists' trust (p<0.01). Additionally, the factors affecting dental anxiety and anxiety stimulus were knowledge of dental hygienist and distrust of dentist (p<0.01). According to this study, dentists' and dental hygienists' trust of dental staff show the importance of oral health professionals' role in reducing dental anxiety in patients. It is also suggested that efforts should be made to improve public awareness of oral health experts. It is believed that dentists, and dental hygienists need to promoted to become professionals. In addition, a variety of programs have been developed to reduce dental anxiety, so patients need to be comfortable to receive dental treatment.

  • For successful restoration of maxillary anterior implants, both pink esthetics and white esthetics must be satisfied. For pink esthetic part, the role of appropriate provisional prosthesis restoration is important, and for white esthetic part, the color and shape of the definitive prosthesis is important. Multilayer zirconia can be used for natural tooth appearance due to the higher transparency of the incisal area compared to the conventional monolithic zirconia. Therefore, in this case, white esthetic part was achieved through multilayer zirconia after recovering function and esthetics through appropriate provisional prosthesis in a patient who lost the maxillary anterior teeth.

  • It is very difficult to achieve denture support, stability and retention in single-maxillary complete denture patients with flabby tissue. A 57-year-old male patient was uncomfortable with the existing denture and wanted treatment. The reduction of flabby tissue was confirmed using the treatment denture. Non-pressure impression was obtained using an intraoral scanner during the definitive denture process. This is reported because the resulting denture improved when observing the retention, support and stability of the denture during occlusion.

  • CAD/CAM technology has already been used in most areas of prosthetics. The range of CAD/CAM application in denture fabricating process has been gradually increasing since the CAD/CAM technology was introduced for the fabrication of complete dentures in 1994. This paper describes a technique that combines conventional and CAD/CAM technology for the fabrication of complete dentures: the master casts from a conventional impression techniques were scanned first, and the wax denture was fabricated using Amann Girrbach's Ceramill full denture system (fds). The purpose of this paper is to introduce the case in which making an esthetically and functionally satisfied denture in shorter time is possible with CAD/CAM technology.

  • Technological advances in contemporary medicine has discovered the causes of countless diseases and recorded a noticeable medical performance. As technology develops, the role of hospitals is expanding to include disease prevention of inpatients, on top of their fundamental role of treating diseases. Recently, hospitals are becoming more influential as they create environments to provide comfort and stability to patients. In this regard, contemporary hospitals are increasingly shifting their focus to create a patient-centric environment as well as develop into humanistic establishments. The same goes to dentists, as well. Since inpatients often have fear and frustration over treatment, hospitals should figure out the environmental factors that are more effective and relaxing for patients and design medical services to provide them. The patients' movement and spaces during their treatment were categorized by stages and collected for gazing information using eye tracking. It analyzed users' gaze information according to Heatmap analysis of distribution and frequency and was determined the presence or absence of stimuli on the components of space. This research is an advanced research to study and enhance treatment environment based on the analysis of patients' gazes. It attempted to create an opportunity to get closer to patient-centric environment by understanding the stimulants and obstacles and controlling the background settings.

  • Support, retention, and stability of dentures are key factors in the use of complete dentures in edentulous patients. With the development of digital dentistry, attempts are being made to replace traditional treatment methods. Also, struggle to reduce the number of patient visits and to manufacture high-quality digitally fabricated dentures are ongoing. In this case, a digital denture was restored using a tray capable of obtaining centric relation through gothic arch tracing and a facial scan. By replacing the traditional complete denture restoration method, the number of patient visits was reduced and esthetic results with satisfactory denture support, retention, and stability were obtained.
