For the comparisons of dental archs and crowdings between musical wind instrument players groups and non-wind instrument players groups, 64 male wind instrument players and 31 non-wind instrument players group were selected. The results of the measurements were as follow. 1 Upper intercanine widths, upper basal arch widths, lower basal arch widths were statistically significant between musical wind instrument players groups (Class A, Class B) and non-wind musical instrument players group. 2 The mean value of upper intercanine width m Class A ($373{\pm}2.3mm$) was greater than than in Class B ($362{\pm}17mm$) and non-wind musical instrument players group($360{\pm}16mm$) 3 The mean value of lower basal arch width m Class B ($422{\pm}25mm$) was greater than that in non wind instrument players group ($395{\pm}28mm$). 4 The differences in the mean values of crowdings between Class A and Class Band non-wind instrument players group were not statistically significant.
The purpose of this study was to observe the changes of the lower 3rd molars following the extraction of the lower 2nd molars by Lateral Cephalograms and Orthopantomograms. The subjects consisted of twenty malocclusion, 7 males 13 females, were 19 year 5 month old at the removal of the lower 2nd molars, 19 year 1 month old at the end of the orthodontic supervision after the removal of the lower 2nd molars (mean age) The obtained results were as follows, 1 It is recommended to extract the lower 2nd molars when the lower 3rd molars are Nolla's Stage 4 or 5 2 With the pre-extraction variables obtained by factor analysis, it was possible to predict the long axis of the lower 3rd molars after 2nd molar extraction. 3 There were no impacted 3rd molars.
This study was undertaken to determine the adequate bracket slot torque degrees in Korean The subjects were consisted of plaster casts of 30 male and 30 female They had acceptable profile, normal occlusion, no loss of tooth and no experience of dental treatment Labiolingual or buccolingual inclinations of individual tooth were estimated as +, - degrees on the fixed model by use of dental surveyor, contact angle gauge and measuring grid The following conclusions were obtained 1 Adequate degrees of bracket slot torque in Korean were obtained 2 The degrees of labiolingual or buccolingual inclination of every tooth were very variable according to the individuals 3 Almost constant torque degrees were observed on the maxillary buccal segments 4 Progressive increase in minus torque degrees were observed from the mandibular canines to the 2nd molars.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the root resorption and repair pattern of human teeth under intrusive orthodontic loadings of varying magnitude and duration. 50 gms, 100 gms, 200 gms of force applied to the 96 experimental teeth with duration of 2, 5, 7, 10 weeks, after removing the arch wire and retaining during 2 and 6 weeks, experimental teeth were extracted. Results were as follows: 1. The initial resorption site was visible in the apex within 2 weeks with 50 gms, 100 gms samples. 2. The sites of resorption increased markedly with duration of the force. 3. The 50 grams samples of the all duration reveal the shallow resorption and the 100 gms samples of the all duration except 2 weeks reveal the shallow and deep resorption sites. 4. After 7 weeks with 50 gms and 100 gms, cellular cementum repair accompanied the continuing resorption. 5. 2 and 6 weeks after removing the force with 200 gms, the same cellular cementum repair accompanied with 50 gms, 100 gms samples.
The center of resistance is a important determining factor of tooth movement pattern. Laser speckle interferometry, recently developed for noninvasive measurement of small displacements (microns), was used to detect the center of resistance of a maxillary canine which has normal tooth axis and distal curved root in dry human skull. Laser holographic interferometry was used to verify the results of laser speckle interferometry The following result were obtained; 1. In measurement of the degree of rotation, center of resistance was localized when the traction line passed 4.4/18.0 level from alveola crest to root apex. 2. In measurement of the degree of tipping, center of resistance was localized when the traction line passed 4.6/18.0 level from alveola crest to root apex. 3. In holographic determination, the center of resistance was observed when the traction line passed between 3mm to 6mm level from alveola crest to root apex, therefore the results using laser speckle interferometry was coincided with holographic results.
The lingual multibracket appliance was developed to overcome the unesthetic nature of traditional fixed orthodontic labial appliances; however, treatment with this appliance was regarded as very difficult as well as a time-consuming. Recently, these problems have been reduced because of advances in lingual bracket systems, improved indirect bonding technique and the development of more flexible wires. There has been a marked increase in the number of adults desiring orthodontic treatment over recent years and many of these patients tend to seek invisible orthodontic appliances due to esthetic reasons. Although the lingual multibracket treatment is not ideal, this form of treatment is currently the best option for the patients with esthetic concerns. Here, I would like to present a case treated successfully with lingual multibracket appliance.
Orthodontic closure of old, edentulous spaces in the mandibular posterior region is a major challenge. In this report, we describe a method of orthodontic closure of edentulous spaces in the mandibular posterior region accelerated by piezoelectric decortication and alveolar ridge expansion. Combined piezosurgical and orthodontic treatments were used to close 14- and 15-mm-wide spaces in the mandibular left and right posterior areas, respectively, of a female patient, aged 18 years and 9 months, diagnosed with skeletal Class III malocclusion, hypodontia, and polydiastemas. After the piezoelectric decortication, segmental and full-arch mechanics were applied in the orthodontic phase. Despite some extent of root resorption and anchorage loss, the edentulous spaces were closed, and adequate function and esthetics were regained without further restorative treatment. Alveolar ridge expansion-assisted orthodontic space closure seems to be an effective and relatively less-invasive treatment alternative for edentulous spaces in the mandibular posterior region.
Utilizing the repelling force of permanent magnet of find out weather it shows the findings of molar intrusion histologically and compares the result with the resin bite plane. As for the experimental animals, 10 cats of completion of permanent dentition with mean weight of 2.2kg which have flat occlusal plane of molar areas were used. I raised the cats under the condition of their being attached with manufactured appliance by direct bonding system and of their wearing vertical chin strap anesthetized for 12-14 hours per day through 5 days. Then, observing the root apex areas with lightmicroscope. The results were as follows; 1. In the group with resin bite plane, osteoblasts and osteoclasts could not find out but could find out periodontal ligment fiber obliquely angulated in the apical and lingual direction. 2. In the group with the permanent magnet, not only the obliquely angulated periodontal ligament fiber but also the osteoclasts at the apical areas were observed.
Metal brackets were recycled by variable methods for economic reason. Such recycling methods had a great effect on bracket slot width and bonding strength. Therefore, the recycling methods that don't change the properties of original bracket were suggested. In this study, debonded brackets were recycled with 30 kinds of solvents and bracket surfaces were examined by S.E.M. (Super IIIA, ISI International Scientific Instruments, Japan) and Stero Microscope (Sz-Tr, Olympus Tokyo, Japan) methods. The following results were obtained. 1. Thermosetting resin adhesives (eq. $Monolok^{(R)}$, $Concise^{(R)}$) were swelled most in sulfuric acid (assays 95%) and slightly in alcohol groups. 2. The solvent was exchanged every 24 hours during the brackets were recycled with sulfuric acid (assays 95%). As the passage of time, the adhesives were removed more clearly, and after 72 hours adhesives were nearly detached from bracket base. 3. Chemical recycled metal bracket surface showed no irregular structure by S.E.M. method.
