  • There is a variation in the range of normal occlusion, and we must fit our treatment to the needs of each patient. If the upper or lower incisors are congenital)y missing, malformed, or crowded, the extraction of the incisor has some advantages over the extraction of premolars and nonextractions. The advantages are 1)simple mechanics, 2)reduced treatment time, 3)less relapse tendency, and 4)fewer facial profile changes. In order to decide which incisor should be extracted, we must consider certain factors 1)discrepancies in anterior arch length, 2)anterior tooth ratio, 3)periodontal and tooth health condition, and 4)the relationship between the upper and lower midline. Diagnostic set-up can be helpful to plan the treatment and show us the post treatment result.

  • Treatment of adult patients with Class III malocclusion frequently requires a combined orthodontic and surgical approach. However, if for various reasons, nonsurgical orthodontic treatment is chosen, a stable outcome requires careful consideration of the patient's biologic limitation. This case presents the orthodontic treatment of an adult with a Class III malocclusion, which was treated nonsurgically using indirect skeletal anchorage.

  • Tooth impaction make various problems which are pathologic changes, functional defect and esthetic troubles. Sometimes impacted tooth are extracted. But surgical exposure of impacted tooth and orthodontic forced eruption are usually used a lot to solve these problems. Impacted tooth for orthodontic treatment has two impacted patterns 1) Simple impaction outside alveolar bone covered soft tissue, 2) Fully impaction under alveloar bone. So I introduce way to exposure of impacted tooth for orthodontic treatment with various cases and literatures.

  • Treatment options for impacted permanent molars include orthodontic traction, surgical repositioning, transplantation, and extraction of the impacted teeth. Orthodontic traction is recommended because it is the most conservative method. However, it has limitations, such as loss of tooth anchorage. In an effort to overcome these limitations, skeletal anchorage devices tailored for orthodontic use were developed. In this case report, 3 patients were diagnosed with impacted permanent molars. The impacted teeth of these patients were surgically exposed, the orthodontic devices were attached, and the skeletal anchorage devices were implanted for the successful traction of the impacted teeth.

  • There are clinical cases that always give us trouble in our daily practice. But, those kind of difficulties may be from our intradisciplinary approach not from interdisciplinary approach. Many dentists are getting good results from interdisciplinary treatments, involving periodontics, operative dentistry and prosthodontics. But, the orthodontics is the discipline can't be missed to the dentists trying to esthetic treatment. Here, I'd like to share the following cases because I couldn't get esthetic outcomes if there was no orthodontic involvement, with periodontics, operative dentistry and prosthodontics.

  • Distributions trends were examined in 9159 malocclusion patients who had been examined and diagnosed at Department of Orthodontics, College of Dentistry Yonsei University over a 6 year-period from 1992 to 1997. The results were as follows ; 1. The total number of orthodontic patients in 1997 increased in comparing with that of 1992(86%) and after 1995, the number of annual patients showed an increase. 2. Age distribution had shown over-19 year-old group being the largest(39.9%) but percentages of pre-adolescent patients had been decreasing while that of adult patient had gradually increased. 3. Distributions in the types of malocclusion, the Angle's Classification had shown : 33.3% for Class I, 28.6% for Class II and the largest 38.1% for Class III. 4. Among Class I patients, crowding showed the largest(32.6%) and protrusion group had gradually increased to 33.9% in 1996. Otherwise openbite and crossbite groups tend to decrease, annually. 5. Geographic distribution showed a majority of patients from Seoul(above 70%). Among the patients from Seoul, group within the distance 3-6Km from Yonsei dental hospital was the largest(32.3%) and group within 9Km showed 69% of total patients.

  • To restore a tooth with a fracture line extending below the marginal bone level, a surgical crown lengthening procedure accompanied by ostectomy could be considered to expose the fracture line and reestablish the biologic width. However, this procedure could lead to esthetic failure, especially in the anterior teeth. Therefore, orthodontic extrusion, which elevates the fracture line from within the alveolar socket without sacrificing the supporting bone and gingiva, is recommended. This technique allows for the proper placement of the crown on a sound tooth structure, with the reestablishment of the biologic width. Alternatively, surgical extrusion is an one-step procedure that is simpler and less time-consuming than orthodontic extrusion; placing and adjusting the orthodontic appliance does not require multiple visits. This study presents successful restoration in 2 cases with a crown-tooth root fracture of the maxillary central incisor treated using a multidisciplinary approach through orthodontic extrusion or surgical extrusion followed by successful restoration.

  • The introduction of smart technology provides accuracy, safety, and efficiency to both physicians and patients. Although interest in a clear aligner is increasing among users worldwide, the current clear aligner requires a visit to the hospital every one or two weeks for replacement, which is a very cumbersome process. There is also confusion among dentists and patients because about 40 to 80 devices are made, and calibration is done based on the order and duration of the clear aligner. Therefore, this study designed and developed a clear aligner management system so that communication between the patient and dentist can be smoothly performed by inserting the QR code into the transparent correction device. As a result, the size of the QR code was recognized as $6{\ast}6mm^2$ which can be used in the oral and the recognition distance was 100% within 12 cm. Since the dentist can remotely manage the patient with the proposed system and improve the correction effect, it is possible to manage patients abroad, as well as domestically.
