In this study, an experimental study to evaluate the seismic performance of beam-to-column connection for medium and low-rise building was conducted. Five connections using SHN490 steel were made with test variables such as flange welded or bolted, web welded or bolted. Specimen SHN-W-W is web welded and flange welded type. Specimen SHN-W-B is web welded and flange bolted type. Specimen SHN-B-W is web bolted and flange welded type. Specimen SHN-B-B is web bolted and flange bolted type. Specimen SHN-EP is a connection with the end plate to the beam ends. Cyclic loadings was applied at the tip of beam following KBC2009 load protocol. The load vs rotation curves for different connection are shown and final failure mode shapes are summarized. The connections are classified in terms of stiffness and strength as semi-rigid or rigid connection. Energy dissipation capacities for seismic performance evaluation were compared.
This study was programmed to fabricate a beam-to-column connection that is limited to a steel-welded moment connection with full-scale members, using SN steel. A cyclic seismic test was conducted of the nine specimens that were fabricated by choosing the test variable for the weld access hole geometry, connection design method, and RBS. From the test results, failure modes, the moment-drift behavior, and the strain distribution were provided. From the specimen material properties, the beam's nominal plastic flexural capacity and classified qualified connection as a special moment flame were calculated. By analyzing the skeleton part and the baushinger part, a range of strength-raising effects, and deformation ratios were provided, with which the seismic performance of the specimens were evaluated. The test results showed that the specimens eliminated their weld access holes that demonstrated higher seismic performance than the specimens' existing weld access holes, and that the WUF-W connection that was reinforced by the supplemental fillet weld around the shear tap that was fastened by five bolts demonstrated superior seismic performance.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of the frame which is assumed to be used with Welded Unreinforced Flange-Bolted web (WUF-B) connections and detailed in compliance with FEMA 350 recommended seismic design criteria. In FEMA 350, these types of connections are only valid for Ordinary Moment-Resisting Steel Frames (OMRSFs). For this purpose, based on test results, we proposed an analytical model for the Post-Northridge WUF-B connections with different panel zone strength ratios. Using the connection model, SAC Phase II three and nine-story frames were modeled and analyzed. From a nonlinear static pushover analysis, ductility, maximum strength, and the maximum interstory drift ratio were investigated for buildings with Post-Northridge details. Moreover, the maximum interstory drift ratio of each performance level (IO and CP) was also investigated through Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA). Analytical results were compared with those of buildings with either Pre-Northridge connection or ductile connections with no fracture. The analytical results showed that buildings with Post-Northridge WUF-B connections provide superior strength and interstory drift ratio capacity than buildings with Pre-Northridge WUF-B connections.
In this study, a five-story steel frame was designed in accordance with KBC2005 to evaluate the effects of the beam-column connection on the structural behavior. The connections were designed as fully rigid and semi-rigid. The fiber model was used to describe the moment-curvature relationship of the steel beam and the column, the power model for the moment-rotation angle of the semi-rigid connection and the three-parameter model for the hysteretic behavior of the steel beam, column, and connection. The structure was idealized as separate 2-D frames and as connected 2-D frames. The peak ground accelerations of four earthquake records were modified in a time-history analysis for the levels of the mean return period and for the maximum base-shear force in a pushover analysis. The top story displacement, base-shear force, story drift, demanded ductility ratio for the semi-rigid connection, maximum bending moment of the column, beam, and connection, and distribution of the plastic hinge were examined in the time-history analysis. The frame with the semi-rigid connection yielded a lower base-shear force, less magnitude, and increasing ratio in the bending moment of the column, beam, and connection than the frame with a fully rigid connection. The TSD connection was deemed to have secured the economy and safety of the sample structure that was subjected to seismic excitation for the Korean design level.

The structural design of the steel eccentrically braced frame (EBF) was developed and analyzed in this study through multiobjective optimization (MOO). For the optimal design, NSGA-II which is one of the genetic algorithms was utilized. The amount of structure and interfloor displacement were selected as the objective functions of the MOO. The constraints include strength ratio and rotation angle of the link, which are required by structural standards and have forms of the penalty function such that the values of the objective functions increase drastically when a condition is violated. The regulations in the code provision for the EBF system are based on the concept of capacity design, that is, only the link members are allowed to yield, whereas the remaining members are intended to withstand the member forces within their elastic ranges. However, although the pareto front obtained from MOO satisfies the regulations in the code provision, the actual nonlinear behavior shows that the plastic deformation is concentrated in the link member of a certain story, resulting in the formation of a soft story, which violates the capacity design concept in the design code. To address this problem, another constraint based on the Eurocode was added to ensure that the maximum values of the shear overstrength factors of all links did not exceed 1.25 times the minimum values. When this constraint was added, it was observed that the resulting pareto front complied with both the design regulations and capacity design concept. Ratios of the link length to beam span ranged from 10% to 14%, which was within the category of shear links. The overall design is dominated by the constraint on the link's overstrength factor ratio. Design characteristics required by the design code, such as interstory drift and member strength ratios, were conservatively compared to the allowable values.
This study that is a successive secondary study right after the primary bending strength test of a new form of U-shape hybrid composite beam is a cyclic seismic test of U-shape hybrid composite beam and column conncetion. Three specimens are built for the variables which are kinds of columns, depth of beam, continuity or discontinuity of upper plate of beam, and a number of steel bars of end-beam. Kinds of columns are a reinforcement concrete column and a ACT column of CFT shape, and beam depth are 300, and 500 mm. Detail of connection is bolt connection with using a short bracket that is commonly use. As the result, deformability of 2~4% is ensured the floor displacement angle. If it is the negative moment, the maximum moment shows that its capacity is above the nominal moment.
A double split tee connection is used as a connection that is suitable for ordinary moment frames or special moment frames according to the combination of variables of the thickness of the T-stub flange and the gauge distance of the high-strength bolts. In order to demonstrate safe structural behavior, a double split tee connection must meet the requirements for inter-story drift angles and the moment of connection, as defined in the Korea Building Code-Structural. In order to determine whether the these requirements are met, it is necessary to predict rotational stiffness and the ultimate plastic moment of the connection. Therefore, this study primarily aimed to propose an analytical model for predicting the rotational stiffness of a double split tee connection under a static load. Toward this end, a three-dimensional, non-linear finite element analysis was carried out. Then, the applicability of the proposed model was verified after comparing the test results of this study with other studies.
In this study, the seismic details of a concrete-encased, U-shaped steel beam-to-RC column connection were developed. Three specimens of the beam-to-column connection were tested under cyclic loading to evaluate the seismic performance of the connection. The test parameters were the beam depth and the column section shape. The depths of the composite beams were 610 and 710 mm, including the slab depth. For the RC columns, a square section and a circular section were used. Special details using diagonal re-bars and exterior diaphragm plates were used to strengthen the connections with the rectangular and circular columns, respectively. The test results showed that the specimens exhibited good strength, deformation, and energy dissipation capacities. The deformation capacity exceeded 4% interstory drift angle, which is the requirement for the Special Moment Frame.
This paper discusses generalized modeling schemes for both reinforced concrete (RC) and post-tensioned (PT) flat plate buildings. In this modeling approach, nonlinear behavior due to slab flexure, moment and shear transfer at slab-column connections, and punching shear was included along with linear secant stiffness of each member or connection that accounts for concrete cracking. This generalized model was capable of simulating all different scenarios of slab-column connection failures such as brittle punching, flexure-shear interactive failure, and flexural failure followed by drift-induced punching. Furthermore, automatic detection of drift-induced punching shear and subsequent backbone curve modifications were realistically modelled by incorporating the limit state model, in which gravity shear versus drift capacity relations were adopted. The validation of the model was conducted using one-third scale two-story by two-bay RC and PT flat plate frames. The comparisons revealed that the model was robust and effective.

In this study, the effective properties were numerically calculated for laminated plain weave textile composites with arbitrary s tacking orientation angles. A single-field macroelement with modified sub-domain integration was used in the analysis to reduce computer resource requirement while efficiently accounting for the internal microstructure. A sample calculation procedure based on the Monte Carlo method was employed to consider the random shift between the layers. Results showed that a significant deviation occurred when the orientation angles were near 0 deg for extensional modulus and Poisson's ratio and 45 deg for the shear modulus. It was also found that the average properties calculated by the 2-layer numerical specimen had large differences compared to the CLT results, which indicated that a caution must be needed when designig of thin plain weave composite structures.
