  • This study was done to evaluate current spiritual distress assessment tools and to assess nursing research adapted this spiritual distress assessment tools. Spiritual distress assessment tools were identified through systematic review. Ten studies about spiritual distress assessment tools were identified. In these studies, three international and one domestic standardized assessment tools were found. The purpose of developing these tools was to provide spiritual care through assessing spiritual distress. Domestic assessment tool had low reliability, was not proved by constructive validity, and did not include multidimensional spiritual concepts. International assessment tools may take into account cultural and religious backgrounds in the context for cultural adaptation of instruments. Based on these results, the development of Korean version of spiritual distress assessment tool is recommended.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a mathematics anxiety scale for elementary students in South Korea. Based on the literature review, I developed two types of survey items measuring elementary students' mathematics anxiety. Teachers or students may use survey measurements selectively according to the students' participants in mathematics private institutions. In order to assess the reliability and validity of survey items, I conducted surveys with elementary students. The sample consisted of 300 elementary students in public elementary schools in Seoul. A total of 28 items were developed and examined for the internal consistence. The results showed that the proposed scale was appropriate to represent the mathematics anxiety of elementary students. The survey items of this study could be applied for assessing elementary students' mathematics anxiety regardless of their gender and age factors.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a patient safety nursing activities scale for clinical nurses and to verify validity and reliability it. A preliminary scale was developed through various processes and pilot study. Data were collected from 900 nurses at 28 hospitals selected by proportionate stratified sampling with 331 general hospitals nationwide. The final scale was a 4-point scale, consisting of 72 items in 10 domains. The construct validity was found to be appropriate by exploratory factor analysis and 70.3% of the variance in the total scale and over .74 of factor loading. There was a significant correlation between scale and patient safety culture (r=.52, p<.001) and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was .99. This scale developed to measure patient safety nursing activities of clinical nurses was found to be reliable and valid and will be a useful tool in practical field.

  • Objectives: This study is an explorative study for developing an instrument to measure habitual physical activity level of school-aged children. Methods: HPAQ-S consists of 41 items and a self-reported 5-day recall instrument designed to assess habitual physical activity level for school-aged children. For the validity and reliability test, a sample consisted of 28 children, aged 10-11 years old. Results: 41 question items showed an acceptable internal consistency (cronbach's alpha=.89). A significant positive correlation with the pedometer results (r=.69, p<.001) and with Borg's questionnaire (r=.76, p<.001) support the validity of HPAQ-S. Conclusion: HPAQ-S may be more useful for measuring habitual physical activity level of elementary school-aged children in large populations.

  • The objective of this research is to develop a measurement instrument for service recovery quality in the Internet commerce setting. To this same end, Parasuraman et al.(2005) have devised a scale called E-RecS-QUAL, which we revised and supplemented to develop another instrument named eSR-Q. To guarantee its reliability and validity, this instrument went through the refinement and validation processes for internal consistency and construct validity in terms of convergent, discriminant, and nomological validity. Our final scale consists of four dimensions including responsiveness, compensation, contact, and apologies altogether with fourteen measures. Overall, this research deals with the related research background, the scale development and validation processes, its limitations, and future research directions.
