Analysis of Powder Packing for Alumina Using Design of Experiment with Mixture and Vibration (혼합물실험계획법과 가진을 이용한 알루미나 파우더의 충진율 분석)

  • Alumina powder is one of the widely used materials for industry, but there is a problem that the strength of the product changes depending on the powder packing state. To solve the above problem, previous studies have been conducted to increase the particle packing efficiency, but most of the existing studies analyzed the packing characteristics of millimeter-scale particles, so the physical properties are different from those of the micrometer scale. It is difficult to apply to the micrometer scale. In this paper, a three-step experiment was performed using a statistical method to increase packing using micrometer-scale alumina powder. First, a size combination with high packing and a mixing ratio were selected using the mixture test design method, and an appropriate excitation frequency was selected by analyzing the height change according to the frequency change in the vibration test apparatus. Finally, an alumina powder packing experiment was performed based on the experimental results mentioned above. As a result, it was confirmed that the maximum height variation was 42% higher than the maximum value of the 155 measurements performed when selecting the packing size combination. It is thought that this study will serve as basic data for processing and packing research using fine powder.

  • Approximate optimization has become popular in engineering field such as MDO and Crash analysis which is time consuming. To accomplish efficient approximate optimization, accuracy of approximate model is very important. As surrogate model, Kriging have been widely used approximating highly nonlinear system . Because Kriging employs interpolation method, it is adequate for deterministic computer simulation. Because there are no random errors and measurement errors in deterministic computer simulation, instead of classical DOE ,space filling experiment design which fills uniformly design space should be applied. In this work, various space filling designs such as maximin distance design, maximum entropy design are reviewed. And new design improving maximum entropy design is suggested and compared.

  • As many scientific phenomena are now investigated using complex computer models, the effective use of Kriging on physical problems has been expanded to provide global approximations for optimization problems. This paper is focused on the two types of strategies to improve efficiency and accuracy of approximate optimization models using Kriging. These methods are performed by the stochastic process, stochastic-localization method(SLM), as the criterion to move the local domains and the design of experiments(DOE), the classical design and space-filling design. The proposed methodology is applied to the designs of 3-bar truss, Sandgren's pressure vessel, and honeycomb upper platform of a satellite structure.
