A rubber diaphragm is a critical element of accumulators. The material of a diaphragm is nitrile rubber so as to recover and adjust the large deformation under external pressure fluctuation. The performance of accumulators is influenced by the deformation behaviors of the diaphragm. A large deformation behavior of the diaphragm has been investigated using the commercial finite element program MARC K7.1. The several elastic moduli have been used in linear analysis and Ogden's coefficients have been used in non-linear analysis. As a result, it has been shown that the deformation behavior with a elastic modulus of $0.3 kg/mm^2$ is similar to the behavior of non-linear analysis. And, the modified diaphragm shape to reduce the stress concentration has been proposed.

Two-dimensional hydrodynamic analysis was performed to analyze the attenuating characteristics of shock waves generated by the detonation of the bulkhead initiator. Through the interlocking analysis between HNS and HMX stacking initiator and STS bulkhead, we have precisely simulated detonation growth and pressure wave attenuation phenomena. The free surface velocity at the surface of the bulkhead was measured for quantitative comparison with the test data by VISAR. As a result, it was confirmed that the pressure attenuating pattern of the shock wave exponentially decreased according to the bulkhead thickness. The observed inflection point at the particle velocity measured over time is due to the subsequent propagation of the shock wave due to the rapid spallation of the interface between the detonator and the bulkhead.

In this paper, supersonic jets impinging on axisymmetric cone were investigated to obtain fundamental design data for jet deflector case of example being VTOL/STOL or rocket launch. It was of interest to study flow phenomena such as shock interactions and separation induced by shear layer. Experiments were conducted to obtain schlieren flow visualization and measurement of surface pressure. Numerical results are compared with the experimental result. The dominant feature of the flow is the shock pattern induced by the interaction between the cone shock and the barrel shock. This pattern can take a wide variety of forms depending on the structure of the free jet and strongly influences the form of the surface pressure distributions.

The shock wave and boundary layer interaction patterns in an over-expanded rocket nozzle are associated with the production of undesirable side-forces during the start-up and shut-down processes of the engine. In the present work, a computational study is carried out to investigate the effect of the transient nozzle pressure ratio (NPR) on the flow fields inside the nozzle. The unsteady, compressible, axisymmetric, Navier-Stocks equations with SST k-${\omega}$ turbulence model are solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. NPR is varied from 2.0 to 10.0, in order to simulate the start-up and shut-down processes of the rocket engine. It is observed that the interaction patterns and the hysteresis phenomenon strongly depend on the time variation of NPR, leading to significantly different characteristics in the lateral forces.

This paper is on the prediction and response of the ship hull girder due to slamming of foreward flat bottom plate. The response with respect to foreward flat bottom is divided two kinds by estimating method. One is the estimation of impact forces by slamming, Another is the response of hull girder due to impact forces, that is, displacement, velocity, acceleration, etc. must calculate the values for considered ship hull girder. In this paper, therefore, was estimated only impact forces along ship ordinate of foreward. The analysis of data for estimation followed mainly papers of Ochi. These estimated data shall contribute for ship gull construction for basic optimum design. In particular, the estimated impact forces shall be given for the response of ship gull girder on the foreward flat bottom plate with characteristics of external forces.

Empirical design is still used to avoid a structural damage because impact phenomenon and structural behaviour due to wave impact load can not examined accurately. The damage due to wave impact load is largely affected by impact pressure impulse and impact load area. The objective of this study is, as the second step, to develop an efficient scantling program of bow flare structure, and to predict its impact load area by comparing maximum dented deformations at center of idealized panel structure model of bow flare structure of 300k DWT VLCC using LS/DYNA3D code, which will be used for its verification of dynamic structural analysis, as the next step. Through this study, the impact load area was estimated as $1.5s{\times}1.5s$ stiffener space(s) in the case of panel with stiffeners and as $2.5s{\times}2.5s$, with stringers, under impact pressure curve with peak height 6.5MPa, tail height 1.0MPa, and duration time 5.0msec.

Past few years have seen the growing importance of micro shock tubes in various engineering applications. A pharma ballistic technique is one such application which uses micro shock tube to accelerate drug particles and penetrate into skin, thus avoiding the usual injection drug delivery system. But for the efficient design of such instruments requires the detailed knowledge of shock characteristics and flow field inside a micro shock tube. Due to many factors such as boundary layer, low Reynolds number and high Knudsen number shock propagation inside micro shock tubes will be quite different from that of the well established macro shock tubes. In the present study, experimental studies were carried out on a micro shock tube of 3 mm diameter to investigate flow characteristics and shock propagation. Pressure values were measured at different locations inside the driven section. From the experimental values other parameters like shock velocity, shock strength were found and shock wave diagram was constructed.
