Real-Time Multiple Face Detection Using Active illumination (능동적 조명을 이용한 실시간 복합 얼굴 검출)

  • This paper presents a multiple face detector based on a robust pupil detection technique. The pupil detector uses active illumination that exploits the retro-reflectivity property of eyes to facilitate detection. The detection range of this method is appropriate for interactive desktop and kiosk applications. Once the location of the pupil candidates are computed, the candidates are filtered and grouped into pairs that correspond to faces using heuristic rules. To demonstrate the robustness of the face detection technique, a dual mode face tracker was developed, which is initialized with the most salient detected face. Recursive estimators are used to guarantee the stability of the process and combine the measurements from the multi-face detector and a feature correlation tracker. The estimated position of the face is used to control a pan-tilt servo mechanism in real-time, that moves the camera to keep the tracked face always centered in the image.

  • In the MPLS(Multiprotocol Label Switching) forwarding paradigm, once a packet is assigned to a FEC(Forwarding Equivalence Class), no further header analysis is done by subsequent routers; all forwarding is driven by the labels. This has a number of advantages over conventional network layer forwarding. The MPLS LER(Label Edge Router) is located at the boundary of MPLS domain and plays a role in connecting with the existing Internet as an ingress or an egress router. That is, the MPLS LER as an ingress router assigns a label to a packet which enters the MPLS network from the Internet by analyzing its header and forwards to a corresponding next router in MPLS domain. As an egress router, the MPLS LER turns the packets out of the MPLS network by performing the reverse operation. In this paper, we analyze the traffic performance of an MPLS LER system and estimate the IP(Internet Protocol) packet processing capacity of the system using queueing model and simulation. It is found that the maximum IP packet processing capacity of the system is estimated by 420,000 through 460,000 packets/sec.

A Successive Region Setting Algorithm Using Signal Strength Ranking from Anchor Nodes for Indoor Localization in the Wireless Sensor Networks (실내 무선 센서 네트워크에서의 측위를 위하여 고정 노드 신호들의 크기 순위를 사용한 순차적 구역 설정 알고리즘)

  • Researches on indoor localization using the wireless sensor network have been actively carried out to be used for indoor area where GPS signal is not received. Computationally efficient WCL(Weighted Centroid Localization) algorithm is shown to perform relatively well. However, to get the best performance for WCL all the anchor nodes must send signal with power to cover 96% of the network. The fact that outside the transmission range of the fixed nodes drastic localization error occurs results in large mean error and deviation. Due to these problems the WCL algorithm is not easily applied for use in the real indoor environment. In this paper we propose SRS(Succesive Region Setting) algorithm which sequentially reduces the estimated location area using the signal strength from the anchor nodes. The proposed algorithm does not show significant performance degradation corresponding to transmission range of the anchor nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed SRS algorithm has mean localization error 5 times lower than that of the WCL under free space propagation environment.

Design of HEVC Motion Estimation Engine with Search Window Data Reuse and Early Termination (탐색 영역 데이터의 재사용 및 조기중단이 가능한 HEVC 움직임 추정 엔진 설계)

  • In HEVC variable block size motion estimation, same search window data are duplicatedly used in each block size. It increases memory bandwidth, and it is difficult to exploit early termination. In this paper, largest block size and its corresponding smaller block sizes with same positions are performed at the same time. It reduces memory bandwidth and computation by reusing search window data and computation results. In the early termination, image quality can be degraded when it determines early termination by observing largest block size only, since smaller block sizes cannot be equally terminated due to their relative positions. So, in this paper, processing order of early termination is changed to perform smaller block sizes in turns. The designed motion estimation engine was described in Verilog HDL and it was synthesized and verified in 0.18um process technology. Its gate count and maximum operating frequency are 36,101 gates and 263.15 MHz, respectively.

  • Lee(2009) proposed the boundary-adaptive despeckling method using a Bayesian model which is based on the lognormal distribution for image intensity and a Markov random field(MRF) for image texture. This method employs the Point-Jacobian iteration to obtain a maximum a posteriori(MAP) estimate of despeckled imagery. The boundary-adaptive algorithm is designed to use less information from more distant neighbors as the pixel is closer to boundary. It can reduce the possibility to involve the pixel values of adjacent region with different characteristics. The boundary-adaptive scheme was comprehensively evaluated using simulation data and the effectiveness of boundary adaption was proved in Lee(2009). This study, as an extension of Lee(2009), has suggested a modified iteration algorithm of MAP estimation to enhance computational efficiency and to combine classification. The experiment of simulation data shows that the boundary-adaption results in yielding clear boundary as well as reducing error in classification. The boundary-adaptive scheme has also been applied to high resolution Terra-SAR data acquired from the west coast of Youngjong-do, and the results imply that it can improve analytical accuracy in SAR application.

Numerical Study on Prediction of Flare Slamming Load on Container Ship under Head Sea and Oblique Sea Conditions (선수파 및 사파조건에서 컨테이너선의 선수 플레어 슬래밍 하중 추정에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • A ship operating under rough sea conditions is exposed to a slamming load due owing to its motion relative to encountered waves. In the process of reentering the water, the ship's structure is temporarily subjected to an impact pressure. In particular, bow flare slamming often occurs in large container ships with a large flare angle, and can cause structural damage. Numerical simulations were performed in this study, and the results were compared with reliable experimental results. The simulation results were also used to estimate the bow flare slamming pressures on a container ship under head sea and oblique sea conditions. It was found that a maximum impact pressure of 475 kPa was generated near the 0.975 station of the container ship under a head sea condition.

  • The setting of the target area for ground stability evaluation during ground excavation is categorized into theoretical and empirical estimation methods and numerical analysis methods. Generally, the applied theoretical and empirical estimation methods include those by Peck (1969), Caspe (1966), and Clough et al. (1990). The numerical analysis method comprehensively considered the current status of the task section (maximum excavation depth section, ground condition vulnerable section, etc.). It reflected the results of performing two and three-dimensional numerical analyses on the weakest section. Therefore, this study shows an example of setting the scope of influence when excavating the vertical and tunnel sections of a 000-line double-track private investment project through the above theoretical, empirical, and numerical analysis methods.

  • 우리나라 친환경 에너지 생산의 주요 축을 담당하고 있는 양수발전댐의 홍수 시 정교한 수계운영을 위한 방안으로 강우-유량-댐 수위 매트릭스(이하, PDH Matrix)를 개발하고 양수발전소상-하부댐 연계 운영에 따른 홍수 영향을 분석하였다. 연구 대상지역은 강원도 양양군 서면에 위치하고 있는 국내 최대 양수발전소인 양양양수 발전소로 총 저수용량 92만 m3의 콘크리트 중력식댐으로 유역면적은 약 125 km2이다. 양양양수 발전댐의 수계운영을 위한 PDH Matrix는 지속기간별 강수량 규모에 따른 홍수량 및 댐 최고수위 추정치를 판단할 수 있는 조견표로 강우규모 30 - 360 mm (30분 간격, 12개 강우규모) 및 지속기간 1-24시간 (1시간 간격, 24개 지속기간)인 총 288개의 강우조건별 홍수수문곡선을 개발하였다. 개발된 홍수수문곡선을 입력자료로 기존 댐 운영 방식인 AutoROM을 적용하여 저수지 홍수추적을 HEC-ResSim 모형으로 수행하고 최종적으로 개별 강우사상에 대한 강수량-유량-댐 수위 테이블을 작성하였다. 홍수기 댐 운영에 따른 최고수위는 초기 댐 수위조건에 따라 변동되므로 초기 댐 수위 조건(EL. 115 - 117 m, 1 m 간격)별 PDH Matrix를 각 각 개발하였다. 또한, 양수발전소의 특성상 상부댐으로 양수 또는 발전 방류에 따라 홍수 시 댐의 치수안전성에 미치는 영향이 크므로 상, 하부댐 운영에 따른 홍수영향 분석을 수행하였다. 구체적으로 하부댐에서 상부댐으로 양수 시 시간에 따른 하부댐 저수지의 수위변화 양상을 추정하였으며 극한적 홍수상황을 고려하기 위하여 상부 저수지가 만수인 상황에서 불가피하게 하부댐으로 방류가 필요한 상황에 대비한 홍수기 운영방안을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 하부댐-상부댐을 연계하여 운영하는 양수발전댐의 홍수기 수계 운영 방안을 수립한 첫 연구로 향후 연구에서 개발한 강우-유량-댐 수위 매트릭스(PDH Matrix) 작성 기법을 타 양수발전소 수계 운영 시 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Estimation of Available Recurrent Water in Small Watershed of Agricultural Reservoirs (농업용 저수지 소유역 순환용수 가용수량 추정)

  • 최근 기후변화에 따른 가뭄의 상습화와 농촌용수 수요증가에 대비할 수 있는 가뭄대책의 수립을 통한 용수부족 문제에 대한 근본적인 해소의 필요성 증가하고 있는 가운데 기존 수자원을 효율적으로 활용하기 위한 4차 산업기술을 적용한 순환형 농업용수 관리시스템의 개발이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 2017년 가뭄이 극심하였던 충청남도 대사저수지, 풍전저수지와 경기도 마둔저수지에 대하여 기상분석, 관개분석, 수리분석 등을 수행하여 이수관리, 관개만족도, 회귀수의 재이용 등을 예측 관리할 수 있는 순환형 농업용수 관리 시스템을 개발하여 적용하고자, 선제적으로 가뭄 발생 들녘의 용수공급을 위한 농업용 저수지 소유역 순환용수 가용수량을 추정하였다. 2010년부터 2019년까지의 강우유출 모형을 적용하기 위하여 수원, 천안, 이천관측소의 강우, 최고/최저기온, 상대습도, 풍속, 일사량자료를 일자료로 활용하였고, 10년 평균 유출량을 순별로 산정하여 기본자료로 구축하여 주요 취입보 유입수량을 산정하였다. 주요 취입보 유입수량 산정과 취입보의 용적을 산출하기 위하여 시설별 높이차와 하천의 길이 및 폭을 측정하였으며 물수지는 보유용수량과 유입량의 합에서 공급수량을 제외한 값으로 정의하였고, 내용적을 초과하는 경우에는 범람되는 것으로 구현하여 마둔, 대사, 풍전저수지의 임의 지점(하천)별로 순환용수 가용을 위한 모의를 실시하였다. 공간 범위는 평야부 말단부로 선정하였고, 가상으로 약 2m 높이의 임시보를 적용하여 관개기 강우유출수 및 퇴수에 의한 가용수량을 산정하였다. 이를 위하여 하천의 폭과 표고를 이용하여 길이를 산출하여, 내용적을 산출하였다. 소유역별로 TANK 모형적용 결과를 입력자료로 활용하여 일 공급 양수량을 내용적 최대로 하였을 때 회복 기간에 대한 모의를 수행하였다. 강우유출수에 의한 소유역별 가용수량을 4월부터 모의 분석한 결과 유역별로 차이는 발생하지만 만수위에 도달하는 기간은 특이 유역을 제외하고는 약 50일 이상 걸리는 것으로 분석되었고, 관개기가 계속되면서 회복되는 기간이 짧아지는 경향을 보였다. 이를 통해 소유역별 농업용수 부족분 투입을 위한 위치선정과 용수량 판단이 가능할 것으로 예상된다.
