  • This study was performed to find a method to decrease the radiation exposure of patients when obtaining anteroposterior pelvic images maintaining the quality of the image by using the copper filter built in the DR equipment now being used in our hospital. We measured the level of radiation by changing the filters from none filter to 0.1mmCu, 0.2mmCu, and 0.3mmCu and detected the organ level of radiation by PCXMC program. As a result, high levels of radiation were detected in the bladders and testicles and the levels were decreased as the thickness of the filter was increased and the amount of decrease was the highest in 0.1mmCu. And we asked for the expert opinions to 3 radiologists and as a result, only images obtained by 0.1mmCu filter out of all the images on which copper filters were used were accepted as the ones with diagnostic value same as none filter. At this time, the incident dose on the pelvic region was 0.895mGy which was smaller than the one in none filter by 47%. Therefore, using 0.1mmCu when obtaining anteroposterior pelvic images can effectively decrease the radiation exposure of patients.

  • In this study, we analyzed the computed tomography (CT) measurements of lung volume and density in dogs with relation to body weight, age, sex, and breed. The multi-detector CT examination of the thorax was performed on dogs without respiratory or cardiovascular diseases. Three-dimensional reconstruction of CT images facilitated measurement of lung volume and density. There was a statistical significant correlation between body weight and lung volume (p < 0.0001). Lung density significantly decreased with an increase in body weight (p = 0.0078). However, no correlation was seen between these lung parameters and either sex or age of the dogs. In conclusion, this study shows that body weight is an important factor to consider when interpreting total lung volume and density values measured by quantitative CT. We highlight the need for further study using quantitative CT in identifying the potential effects of sex, age, and disease status on these parameters.

  • The terrestrial phetogrammetry has the relative convenience of selecting the site of photo station in contrast with the aerial photogrammetry, and the flexibility in accuracy prediction of object point positioning. So it has the advantage in designing optimum photo taking system which can fulfill the required accuracy. For the convergent photos which are frequently used for the monitoring of cultural assets and ground facilities, almost all of the traditional studies for the optimum photo condition, both in theoretical or experimental, are basically depend on the symmetrical configuration at the normal direction to the center of the object. However, in many cases the surroundings of the object do not allow the normal photo direction or sufficient convergent angle, even more the object features are not always be seen as one panel like planar. In this paper, the accuracy variation of convergent photos for the multi-planar objects, which are composed by some orthogonal planes, are investigated to establish the optimum photo condition. The results of the accuracy analysis for the photo direction, convergent angle, as well as the object feature are expected to be utilized in system design of geometric configuration of convergent photos, which are adequate for the accurate monitoring of the objects, such as culural assets, facilities, precision instruments, deformation surveying, etc.

  • When an image is captured, motion blurs are caused by relative motion between the camera and the scene, In the case of the camera is moving, the extents of the motion blur are spatially variant according to distances from the camera to the objects. Although the camera is fixed, the extents of the motion blur are spatially variant according to various speeds of the moving objects. Unexpected blur effect very often degrades the quality of the image and it needs to be restored, To restore the spatially variant blurred image, each of the point spread function (PSF) should be identified, In this paper, we propose a new method for the identification of blur extent locally from the image in which the spatially variant motion blur is caused. Experiment shows that the proposed method identifies blur extent well.

  • This study aims to find out geometric parameters which practitioner adjustable to reduce dose in coronary angiography. We take fluoroscopy and cine exposure by use of phantom, and got dose use the dose-area product(DAP) meter of angiography device, than convert DAP to effective dose. As results, Cine exposure shows higher dose measurement about 6-7 times than fluoroscopy. Dose in frame per second(FPS) mode could be decrease down to 70%, as lower FPS. In view of X-ray tube angle, LAO $45^{\circ}$+Caudal $30^{\circ}$ shows highest dose measurement. More use of Collimator, lower dose measurement. Source-image intensifier distance(SID) get longer to 10cm, dose of each fluoroscopy and cine exposure increase up to 25-30%. Image magnification of field of view(FOV) could increase dose up to 1.21-2 times. Also table-image intensifier distance get longer to 10cm, dose increased 1.11-1.25 times. Practitioner can adjust several geometric parameters, as FPS mode, tube angle, Collimation, SID, table-image intensifier distance, FOV. And each factors can reduce radiation dose in coronary angiography.

  • Purpose: Various diagnostic imaging modalities have been used to evaluate the effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for osteosarcoma early and noninvasively. We evaluated the effectiveness of imaging studies of plain radiographs and positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in predicting neoadjuvant chemotherapy effect for osteosarcoma and tried to establish a general principle in interpretation of PET/CT parameters. Materials and Methods: Eighteen patients who underwent two cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and surgical excision for osteosarcoma were enrolled. There were 13 males and 5 females, with a median age of 19 (11-63) years. Fifteen patients of 18 had the American Joint Committe on Cancer (AJCC) stage IIB. They had plain radiographs and PET/CT before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The resected tumor specimens were pathologically examined to determine histological response grade using a conventional mapping method. Statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the correlation between histopathological necrosis rate, and radiographic finding category, post-chemotherapy maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), average standardized uptake value and metabolic tumor volume (MTV) as well as reduction rates of them. Results: Eight patients were good responders to neoadjuvant chemotherapy based on histological evaluation. Median SUVmax reduction rate was 73 (23-77) % in good responders and 42 (-32-76) % in poor responders. Median MTV reduction rate was 93.5 (62-99) % in good responders and 46 (-81-100) % in poor responders. While radiographic finding category was not different according to histological response (p=1.0), SUVmax reduction rate was significantly different (p=0.041). Difference in MTV reduction rates approached statistical significance as well (p=0.071). Conclusion: While radiographic finding category was not reliable to assess neoadjuvant chemotherapy effect for osteosarcoma, reduction rate of SUVmax was a useful indicator in this study. As parameters of PET/CT can be influenced by various factors of settings, different centers have to make an effort to establish their own standard of judgement with reference of previous studies.

  • The purpose of our study was to determine the eyeradiation dose when performing routine multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT). We also evaluated dose reduction and the effect on image quality of using a bismuth eye shield when performing head MDCT. Examinations were performed with a 64MDCT scanner. To compare the shielded/unshielded lens dose, the examination was performed with and without bismuth shielding in anthropomorphic phantom. To determine the average lens radiation dose, we imaged an anthropomorphic phantom into which calibrated photoluminescence glass dosimeter (PLD) were placed to measure the dose to lens. The phantom was imaged using the same protocol. Radiation doses to the lens with and without the lensshielding were measured and compared using the Student t test. In the qualitative evaluation of the MDCT scans, all were considered to be of diagnostic quality. We did not see any differences in quality between the shielded and unshielded brain. The mean radiation doses to the eyewith the shield and to those without the shield were 21.54 versus 10.46 mGy, respectively. The lens shield enabled a 51.3% decrease in radiation dose to the lens. Bismuth in-plane shielding for routine eye and head MDCT decreased radiation dose to the lenswithout qualitative changes in image quality. The other radiosensitive superficial organs specifically must be protected with shielding.

  • Our objective was to develop and evaluate a non-invasive device for rigid immobilization and surface disease non-contact of the table in the lower extremity during CT angiography. The immobilization device consists of two components. The patient's lower limb device stabilizing elements made of polyethylene resin soft materials, and pelvis parts foam pad is used for non-contact surface. In a Prospective study the lower extremity device was used in patients who underwent a CT angiography of the lower limb. Immobilization with our device was well tolerated by all patients. The quality of the resulting images in the popliteal and infrapopliteal region was rated by five-point scale. The rigid immobilization resulted in a complete absence of motion artifacts. The new device is an effective, well tolerated and easily used immobilization that is suitable of use in 3D lower extremity CT angiography.
