In puan area the environmental surveys were carried out at two farms of hard clam, Meretrix lusoria from April 1987 to November 1978 in order to know heather the farm environments could be rehabilitated for the cultivation of hard clam or not. The range of temperature of surface seawater was $10.7{\~}27.4^{\circ}C$, pH $7.6{\~}8.2$, salinity $22.3{\~}30.3$ ppt, COD $0.20{\~}4.71\;mg/{\ell}$, sulfide $0.04{\~}0.22\;{\mu}g-at./{\ell}$, suspended solid $34.8{\~}199.3\;mg/{\ell}$ chlorophyll a $3.71{\~}49.02\;mg/m^3$, TIN $2.01{\~}24.47\;{\mu}g-a5./{\ell}$, phosphate $0.60{\~}11.03\;{\mu}g-at./{\ell}$ and silicate $4.04{\~}476.36\;{\mu}g-at./{\ell}$. The range of temperature of substratum (bottom soil) was $14.2{\~}29.7^{\circ}C$, pH $8.3{\~}9.5$, water content of substratum was $0.28{\~}0.49\;mg/g$ dried mud, COD $2.80{\~}50.94\;mg/g$ dried mud, total organic matter $1.05{\~}1.97\%$ concentration of total Kjedhal nitrogen $31.9{\~}194.9\;{\mu}g./{\ell}$ dried mud, and sulfide $0.032{\~}0.133\;mg/g$ dried mud. Fine sand was dominant ranging over $92{\~}95\%$ and silt and clay was $2.8{\~}8.1\%$ of the composition of substratum. Some residual agricultural chemicals, ${\alpha},\;{\beta},\;{\gamma}$-BHC, heptachlor, heptachlor-epoxide, aldrin, DDE, DDT and dieldrin were detected in hard clams collected from Puan areas. Especialy, more chemical were detected during the period of rainfalls. From above results, it is considered that the hard clam frams were not yet recovered from deteriorated conditions for aquaculture.

This study was conducted to examine the changes of contents of ATP related compounds during drying of large anchovy and storage of dried large anchovy (DLA) according to storage temperature and package method. The total content of ATP related compounds of raw large anchovy was $36.0{\mu}mole/g$ and the major ATP related compounds were consisted of IMP and hypoxanthine. The IMP content of DLA was the highest in $20^{\circ}C$ cold-air drying, and the breakdown of IMP was progressed rapidly in $60^{\circ}C$ air drying, followed by $40^{\circ}C$ air drying, sun drying, and $20^{\circ}C$ cold-air drying. During storage of DLA, ATP was not detected while ADP and AMP was detected in a very small amount, and the changes of ATP related compounds were coincided with the changes of contents of IMP, inosine and hypoxanthine. The changes of ATP related compounds with different package method did not show distinct differences, while with different storage temperature showed clear difference. The content of IMP was over $8.88{\mu}mole/g$ on 60 days at $-20^{\circ}C$, while were over $0.83 {\mu}mole/g$ and$ 0.202 {\mu}mole/g$ on 16 days at$ 5^{\circ}C$ and$ 25^{\circ}C$, respectively. These results suggest that the breakdown of IMP depends on storage temperature and frozen storage affects good quality of DLA during storage.

The effective components of Schisandra chinensis are lignans (schizandrins and gomisins), which have various physiological functionalities such as anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities. This study was carried out to determine the different parts of fruits in Schisandra chinensis to elevate their usefulness. Schisandra chinensis was separated into skin (epicarp), pulp (mesocarp), and seeds, and raw Omija and hot-dried Omija (HDO) were used as control. The most abundant component was nitrogen free extract (6.88~56.70%) followed by crude lipids (1.65~19.04%). The main mineral was K (383.10~2,024.10 mg/100 g), except in seeds where P was the main mineral. The main lignan in all parts of fruit was schizandrin, and the highest content of schizandrin was 9.46 mg/g in dried seeds. Total lignan content was 25.97 mg/g and 14.97 mg/g in dried seeds and HDO, respectively. A total of 17 components of fatty acids in seeds and HDO were detected, of which linoleic acid (72.66~73.78%), oleic acid (14.78~17.39%), palmitic acid (2.88~3.54%), and capric acid (1.70~4.93%) were determined as the major components. Main lignans and fatty acids of Schisandra chinensis fruit contain mainly seeds. Therefore, it is more efficient to use seeds than pulp and extract of fruit itself to use the components of Omija.

[ $Interferon-\gamma$ ] has been suggested as a cytokine of connective tissue stabilizer. In addition, it has also been demonstrated that this cytokine inhibited bone remodeling activities of the bone derived cells. In order to illuminate the effects of this cytokine in orthodontic force induced bone remodeling, it was administered to primary cultured periodontal ligament cells which have been known to have some osteoblast like characteristics. $Interferon-\gamma$ slightly decreased $[^3H]thymidine$ incorporation rate without a significant change in the total cellular DNA content up to 1000 U/ml, which meant these doses were not cytotoxic to the cell. Total protein synthesis was not influenced by various concentration of interferon-y whether it was determined by the $[^3H]proline$ incorporation rate or by the Lowry smethod. The effect of $interferon-\gamma$ on the individual protein was, however, differential, ie, it increased $[^3H]proline$ incorporation into the noncollagenous protein marginally, while it decreased $[^3H]proline$ incorporation into the collagen, so that it caused dose-dependent suppression of the relative collagen synthesis. On the contrary, the fibronectin synthesis determined by the ELISA was increased by 1000 U/ml of $interferon-\gamma$. The differential effects of the interferon-y on the collagen and fibronectin synthesis exhibited not only their protein level but also the steady state mRNA level. $Interferon-\gamma$ decreased steady state level of ${\alpha}1(I)$ procollagen mRNA significantly, while showing no significant changes in the fibronectin mRNA level. In addition to this, it was also found that indomethacin did not affect on the $interferon-\gamma$ induced collagen decrease in this cell, which meant prostaglandins were not involed in the process of $interferon-\gamma$ induced collagen decrease. So it can be concluded that the incubation of periodontal ligament cells with 1000 U/ml of $interferon-\gamma$ for 24 hr showed differential effects on the type I collagen and fibronectin gene expression. The decrease in relative collagen synthesis in the protein level was related with decrease in the steady state level of mRNA, while the increase in the fibronectin synthesis in the protein level was not correlated with the mRNA level.

Purpose: One of the critical aspects on dispensing glasses is to match the center of pupils to the optical center of lenses as the mismatched glasses are able to induce uncomfortable effects called prism which has been known to induce phoria, a main cause for asthenopia in many cases. Therefore, we investigated the induced prism occurred by mismatching centers between the center of pupils and the optical center of lenses. Methods: In this study, total 103 subjects were examined whether the center of pupils and the optical center of lenses are matched in horizontal and vertical directions, and then, the data was categorized into 4 groups based on the structural components of glasses. Total amount of prism was compared to show the effect of the glasses frame on the prism induction, and the value of measured prism was compared with the German RAL-RG 915 regulations. Results: The results in respect to the horizontal component showed that the induced prism was not found in 10.7% of total subjects. 73.8% of total subjects were influenced by induced prism, the range of prism was in a tolerance level. However, the 15.5% of total subjects seemed to be influenced by prism which is out of the criterion of tolerance. In case of vertical component, 23.3% of total subjects showed no effects of prism while early adopting glasses, 54.4% of total subjects showed a little prism effect within the criterion of tolerance, and 22.3% of total subjects showed the prism effect out of the tolerance range. This data indicates that group A and B that are less likely adjustable by fitting induce more prism than group C and D in horizontal and vertical components. Conclusions: In higher refractive error condition, it was found that aligning the optical center of lenses with the center of pupils by pre-fitting of glasses frame minimized prism induction in horizontal and vertical components, which ameliorates ocular fatigue. Therefore, appropriate optometric dispensing through fitting by opticians and precise design about monocular PD and monocular Oh are necessary to improve visual perception.
The following policy implications can be drawn from this study: 1) The Air Pollution Emission Amount Report published by the Ministry of Environment since 1991 classifies industries into 4 sectors, i. e., heating, manufacturing, transportation and power generation. Currently, the usability of report is very low and extra efforts should be given to refine the current statistics and to improve the industrial classification. 2) Big pollution industries are as follows - s7, s17 and s20. The current air pollution control policy for these sectors compared to other sectors are found to be inefficient. This finding should be noted in the implementation of future air pollution policy. 3) s10 and s17 are found to be a big polluting industrial sector and its pollution reduction effect is also significant. 4) The effect of emission coefficient (${\Delta}f$) has the biggest impact on the reduction of emission amount change and the effect of economic growth coefficient (${\Delta}y$) has the biggest impact on the increase of emission volume. The effect of production technology factor (${\Delta}D$) and the effect of the change of the final demand structure (${\Delta}u$) are insignificant in terms of the change of emission volume. 5) Further studies on emission estimation techniques on each industry sector and the economic analysis are required to promote effective enforcement of the total volume control system of air pollutants, the differential management of pollution causing industrial sectors and the integration of environment and economy. 6) Korea's economic growth in 1990 is not pollution-driven in terms of the Barry Commoner's hypothesis, even though the overall industrial structure and the demand structure are not environmentally friendly. It indicates that environmental policies for the improvement of air quality depend mainly on the government initiatives and systematic national level consideration of industrial structures and the development of green technologies are not fully incorporated.
In present paper, we examined the flayer constituents and functionality of two stage enzyme hydrolysates (TSEH) of purplish clam and oyster, and also examined reappearance of oyster flavors through repreparation of individual flayer constituents. Total free amino acid contents in TSEH was $1943.0mg\%$ for purplish clam and was $5066.2 mg\%$ for oyster, respectively, Major free amino acids in purplish clam extracts were taurine, glutamic acid, glycine, alanine, Iysine and arginine, and in oyster extracts were taurine, asparagine, glutamic acid, valine, leucine, alanine, Iysine and arginine. As for nucleotides and related compounds, AMP was the principal component though small amounts in TSEH of purplish clam and oyster, and also contents of TMAO, total creatinine, and betaine were $41.2 mg\%,\;35,9 mg\%$ and $220.9 mg\%$ for that of purplish clam and $3.51 mg\%,\;33.4 mg\%$ and $380.9 mg\%$ that of oyster, respectively. The major inorganic ions in TSEH of both samples were Na, K, P, Cl and $PO_4$, and major non-volatile organic acid was succinic acid. The TSEH of purplish clam and oyster revealed very higher inhibition effect ($84.1\%,\;77.0\%$) in ACE inhibition than that ($0\~44.7\%$) of water and autolytic extract. A synthetic oyster extract prepared from pure chemicals on the basis of the analytical data on the TSEH, satisfactorily reproduced the taste of the natural extract except for a slight lack of mildness and odor. From the omission test the major taste compounds of oyster extract were free amino acid and inorganic ions. The quaternary ammonium bases, nucleotides and related compounds seemed to net an auxiliary role in taste of that.

This study was conducted in order to evaluate nutritive values of yeasts (Kluyveromyces fragilis and Candida utilis) according to growth stages (early log phase, log phase, stationary phase and death phase) and chemical treatment of their cell wall, Proximate, amino acids, fatty acids and nucleotides composition of the yeast samples was determined. Crude protein content was high in K. fragilis ($48\~59\%$) compared to C. utilis ($26\~43\%$). Crude lipid and fiber contents of the yeasts were below than $1.6\%$ and $3.3\%$, respectively. Conposition of aspartic acid, glycine, proline, leucine, Iysine and valine of K. fragilis were higher than those of C. utilis, and glutamic acid and arginine of C. utilis were higher than those of K. fragilis. Proximate and amino acids composition was not siginificantly influenced by growth stage of the yeasts. Major fatty acids of the yeasts in all growth stages were $C_{10-18}$. $C_{16-18}$ contents were relatively high in the early log or log phase and $C_{10-12}$ contents were relatively high in the stationary or death phase. However, n-3 highly unasturated fatty acids (C$\ge$20) in the all growth stages were not observed. This result indicated that these yeast strains could not be adequate as a dietary lipid source for marine fish. Composition of nucleotides and their related compounds (ATP ADP AMP, IMP and inosine) in the early log phase yeasts were lower than those in the log, stationary and death phase yeasts.

The proximate composition, mineral content, fatty acid composition, ATP related compounds, amino acid composition, color and texture were investigated with dorsal and ventral muscle from olive flounder, spotted flounder and hybrid (olive flounder m $\times$spotted flounder f). Spotted flounder and hybrid were higher in moisture content, and lower in crude protein content than those of olive flounder, Potassium content in hybrid was higher than that in olive flounder and spotted flounder. Hybrid was lower in calcium, iron, manganese content, and higher in magnesium content than olive flounder and spotted flounder. The contents of saturated fatty acid, unsaturated fatty acid and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in hybrid were intermediate level of spotted flounder and olive flounder. Fatty acid composition of dorsal muscle was slightly similar to ventral muscle. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and its related compounds contents and amino acid content in hybrid were intermediate level of spotted flounder and olive flounder, and these compounds of dorsal muscle were slightly similar to those of counterpart. The major amino acids such as aspartic acid, glutamic acid, leucine and Iysine were very similar to all the samples. Total amino acid and essential amino acid contents in dorsal muscle were slightly higher than those in ventral muscle. Free amino acid content and composition in hybrid were similar to spotted flounder, and free amino acid content in dorsal muscle was higher than in ventral muscle, The lightness of hybrid and spotted flounder was stronger than that of olive flounder, and was stronger in dorsal muscle. The breaking strength of hybrid was slightly lower than that of spotted flounder, and was stronger in dorsal muscle.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the carcass and meat quality of broiler chicken when slaughtered after treating with different source of grain(T1, 100% corn; T2, 50% corn + 50% brown rice; T3, 100% brown rice) in broiler diet. The carcass weight was decreased when feeding level of rice increased. The yield of breast was higher in T2(18.6%) than T1(17.3%) and T3(l7.9%). The L values(L *) and b values(b*) in meat color were decreased as the feeding level of rice increased when compared to T1(P < 0.05). Warner-Bratzler shear force(WBS) values were higher in T2 and T3 compared to T1. Cooking loss(%) was increased for T2(23.49%) and T3(24.50%) compared to T1(22.90%). In fatty acid composition, linoleic acid(C18:2, n6) contents were significantly lower in T2(31.89%) and T3(27.89%) when compared to TI(33.21%)(P < 0.05), and the total contents of unsaturated fatty acids(UFA) were 76.85%(T1), 77.22%(T2), or 75.49%(T3). The ratio of n6/n3 was decreased as the level of rice increased in the feed(T1 19.89%, T2 17.73%, and T3 17.01%). In conclusion, the meat quality was not significantly different between T1 and T2 from the results of carcass weight, meat color, WBS, and fatty acid composition; therefore, brown rice can be substituted for 50% of corn in the broiler diets.
