  • Catalytic combustion of benzene over $CeO_2$-supported copper oxides has been investigated. The supported copper oxides catalysts were prepared using ball mill method and characterized by XRD, FT-IR, TEM and TPR. In the CuO/$CeO_2$ catalysts prepared using ball mill method, highly dispersed copper oxide species were shown at high loading ratio. The CuO/$CeO_2$ prepared using ball mill method showed the higher activity than those prepared using impregnation method. The catalytic activity increased with an increase in the CuO loading ratio, 10 wt% loaded CuO/$CeO_2$ catalyst giving the highest activity. In addition, the promoting of 10 wt% loaded CuO/$CeO_2$ catalyst with $Fe_2O_3$ and CoO enhanced the dispersion of CuO and then increased the catalytic activity.

  • CO oxidation was performed with Cu-Mn and Cu-Zn co-precipitated catalysts as differential precipitant, metal ratio and calcination temperature. The effects of differential metal mole ratio and calcination temperature in mixed metal oxide catalyst were investigated with CO oxidation reaction. Physiochemical properties were studied by XRD, $N_2$ sorption and SEM. 2Cu-1Mn with $Na_2CO_3$ catalyst calcined at $270^{\circ}C$ has a large surface area $43m^2/g$ and the best activity for CO oxidation. $Cu_{0.5}Mn_{2.5}O_4$ in XRD peak shows the lower activity than others. The catalytic activity over the catalyst calcined $270^{\circ}C$ displayed the highest conversion, and it was better activity comparing with Pt catalysts CO conversion.

  • This study characterized the reforming of methane with carbon dioxide, which is a major cause of global warming. The methane decomposition reaction with carbon dioxide was carried out using transition metal catalysts. The reactivity of tin was lower than that of a transition metal, such as nickel and iron. Most of the decomposition reaction occurred in the solid state. The melting point of tin is 505.03 K. Tin reacts in a liquid phase at the reaction temperature and has the advantage of separating carbon produced by the decomposition of methane from the liquid tin catalyst. Therefore, deactivation due to the deposition of carbon in the liquid tin can be prevented. Methane decomposition with carbon dioxide produced carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Ni was used to promote the catalyst performance and enhance the activity of the catalyst and lifetime. In this study, catalysts were synthesized using the excess wet impregnation method. The effect of the reaction temperature, space velocity was measured to calculate the activity of catalysts, such as the activation energy and regeneration of catalysts. The carbon-deposited tin catalyst regeneration temperature was 1023 K. The reactivity was improved using a nickel co-catalyst and a water supply.

  • The object of the present study is to apply KF/MgO catalysts to remove sulfur dioxide from dibenzothiophene sulfone, a by-product of oxidative desulfurization. Potassium fluoride was deposited via an impregnation method on MgO. The effects KF loading and calcination on the characteristics of the KF/MgO catalysts were investigated through the BET surface area, XRF, XRD, and temperature-programmed desorption of $CO_2$. The catalytic performances of the samples were investigated during the decomposition of dibenzothiophene sulfone to biphenyl and sulfur dioxide gas. KF loaded on MgO prepared by the impregnation method showed high catalytic activities for the decomposition of dibenzothiophene sulfone. The higher activity of KF/MgO just dried at 373 K, avoiding the usual activation at high temperature, than that over the calcined catalyst is ascribed to increase of the amount of basic sites. The high basicity probably may be due to the coordinately unsaturated $F^-$. The simply dried 10 % KF/MgO catalyst, without the usual activation at high temperature, showed the optimal catalytic properties.

  • In order to investigate the effect of cerium oxide addition, Cu-ZnO-CeO2 catalysts were prepared using co-precipitation method for water gas shift (WGS) reaction. A series of Cu-ZnO-CeO2 catalyst with fixed Cu Content (50 wt%, calculated as CuO) and a given ceria content (e.g., 0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 wt%, calculated as CeO2) were tested for catalytic activity at a GHSV of 95,541 h-1, and a temperature range of 200 to 400 ℃. Cu-ZnO-CeO2 catalysts were characterized by using BET, SEM, XRD, H2-TPR, and XPS analysis. Varying composition of Cu-ZnO-CeO2 catlysts led the difference characteristics such as Cu dispersion, and binding energy. The optimum 10 wt% doping of cerium facilitated catalyst reduction at lower temperature and improved the catalyst performance greatly in terms of CO conversion. Cerium oxide added catalyst showed enhanced activities at higher temperature when it compared with the catalyst without cerium oxide. Consequently, ceria addition of optimal composition leads to enhanced catalytic activity which is attributed to enhanced Cu dispersion, lower binding energy, and hindered Cu metal agglomeration.

  • The catalytic effect induced by activated carbon (AC) was evaluated during the phenol treatment using an ozone/AC ($O_{3}/AC$) process. In the case of the addition of AC to the ozone only process, the decomposition efficiency of dissolved ozone and phenol increased with increasing the amount of AC input. It was that the OH radical generated from the decomposition of dissolved ozone by AC had an effect on the removal of phenol. It was shown as the catalytic effect of AC ([$\Delta$phenol]/$[{\Delta}O_{3}]_{AC}$) in this study. The maximum catalytic effect was approximately 2.13 under 10~40 g/L of AC input. It approached to the maximum catalytic effect after 40 min of reaction with 10 and 20 g/L of AC input, while the reaction time reached to the maximum catalytic effect under 30 and 40 g/L of AC input was approximately 20 min. Moreover, the removal ratios of total organic carbon (TOC) for ozone only process and ozone/AC process were 0.23 and 0.63 respectively.

  • In the skeletal isomerization of 1-pentene over various solid acid catalysts, we have studied catalytic reactivity, selectivity, reaction mechanism and the relation between acid strength of catalysts and catalytic activity. Natural zeolite shows highest activity among the all catalysts and the modified ${\eta}$-alumina with fluorine and sulfuric acid shows higher activity than unmodified ${\eta}$-alumina. The yield of isopentene increases with increasing temperature and increasing contact time. However the cracking products increase at the high temperature and very high contact time. In addition, the activity of natural zeolite exchanged with metal cation decreases and shows good relation with the polarizing power of metal cation. According to the result of ammonia TPD, the acid strength of catalysts has an effect on catalytic activity.

  • The catalytic activity of the used catalyst, $V_2O_5/TiO_2$, for MSW incinerators was investigated focusing on its regeneration. As the result of the experimental analysis, the NOx removal efficiency difference between the fresh catalyst and used catalyst is about 60% at $260^{\circ}C$ and 1, 2-dichlorobenzen (1, 2-DCB) removal efficiency difference is about 14% at $200^{\circ}C$, in honeycomb test. And the catalysts, both the fresh and used, were characterized by XRD, TGA, and ICP techniques in order to investigate the deactivation. On the basis of the results, it is found that the used catalyst is deactivated by ammonium-sulfates, heavy metals (Pb, As etc.), alkali metals (Ca), and phase transfer of $TiO_2$. Also calcination treatment under nitrogen and air condition was excellent than washing and calcination treatment.
