Comparison of Cleaning Performance of CFC 113 and the Alternatives (CFC 113과 대체세정제의 세정성능 비교)

  • According to the Montreal Protocol, CFC 113, one of the ozone-depleting substances, will be prohibited to use as a cleaning solvent essentially in the electronic industry. Therefore, the development of the alternative cleaning solvents to CFC 113 is being accelerated. A number of the alternative cleaning solvents are avialable on the market. The alternatives of Axarel 32(DuPont), Cleanthru 750H(KAO Chemical), and EC-Ultra(Petroferm) are chosen for the comparison of cleaning performance with CFC 113. The test methods for measuring the cleaning performance were composed of the measurement of the physical properties, the experiments on the material compatibility with cleaning solvents, the measurement of the evaporation rate, and finally the experiments of the removal efficiency. Normally the basic physical properties of the alternatives had higher boiling points, viscosity and surface tension, which were quite different to those of CFC 113. In terms of solubility of rosin-based flux, the solubilities of abietic acid (nonpolar organic) were similar, but those of the activator (polar organic) in the alternatives were better than CFC 113. The evaporation of the alternatives was very slow, compared to CFC 113, which had much lower boiling point. All the cleaning solvents showed the good material compatibility with FR4 and Cu-coated PCB. The better removal efficiencies of abietic acid were obtained when using the ultrasonic mechanical energy over the dipping method. The experiments also indicated the very slow-eavaporating solvent was not desirable with the dipping cleaning method, and the differences in the removal efficiency of the alternatives with the ultrasonic cleaning method were negligible. Among the alternatives, the overall cleaning performances were obsorved as almost similar. Before selecting the ultimate cleaning solvent, the application of cleaning machine, environmental issues, and economics are simultaneously considered with the cleaning performance.

Evaluation of Cleanness and Physical Properties of W/O Microemulsion (W/O Microemulsion 세정제의 물성 및 세정성 평가)

  • Using four components - nonionic surfactants, water, hydrocarbon oil and an alcohol as cosurfactant, 12 types of cleaning agents were prepared, and their physical properties such as surface tension, viscosity, electroconductivity and phase stability were measured. As the formulated cleaning agents have low surface tensions(30.5-31.1 dyne/cm) and low viscosities (1.6-7.2 c.p.), they are satisfied with the general physical properties of water-in-oil(W/O) microemulsions for their industrial use. They showed a tendency that their temperature range for stable one-phase microemulsion decreased in accordance with the increase of alcohol/surfactant(A/S) ratio in the formulations. However, the temperature range of one-phase microemulsion was much more affected by hydrophilic lipophillic balance(HLB) value of the nonionic surfactant which increased its temperature range and it increased in accordance with the higher HLB value in the formulations. And the maximum content of water which can keep stable one-phase W/O microemulsion was measured at each sample. In addition, their temperature range for stable one-phase microemulsion was also measured. It was confirmed that the selection of surfactant type was very important for formulating a cleaning agent, since the W/O microemulsion system with the nonionic surfactant of the lower HLB value showed better cleaning efficacy that of the higher HLB value for abietic acid as a soil, which was used for preparing a rosin-type flux. In the formulated cleaning agents with the increase of A/S ratio in the formulations, however, there was no significant difference in cleaning efficacy. It was investigated that the differences of their cleaning efficacy was affected by the change of the condition of temperature and sonicating frequency as important factors in the industrial cleaning. That is, the higher, their cleaning temperature and the lower, their sonicating frequency, the more increased, their cleaning efficacy. Furthermore, using optical instruments like UV/Visable Spectrophotometer and FT-IR Spectrometer, their cleaning efficacy for abietic acid was measured. The removal of soil from the contaminated rinse water was measured by gravity separation method in the rinse bath. As a result, the cleaning agent system having the nonionic surfactant of HLB value 6.4 showed over 85% water-oil separation efficacy at over $25^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it was demonstrated in this work that the formulating cleaning agents were very effective for cleaning and economical in the possible introduction of water recycling system.

Debris removal efficiency depend on different ultrasonic irrigation protocols (초음파 세정 프로토콜에 따른 근관 내 잔사 제거의 효율성 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is comparing the efficiency of debris removal of passive ultrasonic irrigation depend on different protocols. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight mandibular premolars were randomly divided into 2 groups depend on vibration power (Weak and Strong, n = 24). And then two groups were subdivided into 3 groups depend on the number of times that PUI used (1, 2 and 3, n = 8). After standardization, teeth were split into two halves. On the wall of one half of root canal, three depressions were cut at 1, 3 and 5 mm from the apex and in the same way two depressions were cut on the other half of root canal at 2, 4 mm from the apex. Each depression was filled with mixture of dentine and NaOCl. After irrigation, images of the root canal wall were taken, and then the amount of remaining dentine debris was evaluated. Results: There was no significant difference between weak and strong power of vibration groups. Weak vibration groups did not show significant difference depend on the different number of times PUI used. But in the strong vibration groups, twice and three times used groups show better removal efficiency. Conclusion: The removal efficiency of dentine debris is not significantly different depend on the power of vibration. And multiple use of PUI could have better irrigating effects at the apical third area in the strong vibration group.

Ultrasonic Bonding of Au Flip Chip Bump for CMOS Image Sensor (CMOS 이미지 센서용 Au 플립칩 범프의 초음파 접합)

  • This study was focused on the feasibility of ultrasonic bonding of Au flip chip bumps for a practical complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor with electroplated Au substrate. The ultrasonic bonding was carried out with different bonding pressures and times after the atmospheric pressure plasma cleaning, and then the die shear test was performed to optimize the ultrasonic bonding parameters. The bonding pressure and time strongly affected the bonding strength of the bumps. The Au flip chip bumps were successfully bonded with the electroplated Au substrate at room temperature, and the bonding strength reached approximate 73 MPa under the optimum conditions.

  • Poly(lactic acid)(이하 PLA라 칭함)는 1970-80년대의 초기 연구에서는 높은 제조비용과 희귀성에 의해 봉합사와 약물전달시스템으로 용도가 제한적이었으나 1980년대를 거쳐 1990년 이후 농업의 혁신적인 변화를 거쳐 옥수수의 다양한 측면의 이용의 하나로서 6-7년 전부터 양산화에 성공하여, 의류, 필름 및 플라스틱의 여러 가지 분야에서 적용가능성을 모색하고 있다. PLA의 장점은 석유가 아닌 천연 원료에서 얻을 수 있으며, 기존의 합성섬유와는 달리 일정한 조건하에서 미생물 등에 의해 물과 이산화탄소로 90% 이상 분해되는 친환경적인 소재이다. 합성섬유에서 의류용으로 대부분 사용되는 폴리에스테르(이하 PET라 칭함)와 유사한 물성을 가지고 있는 PLA섬유는 PET섬유와 유사한 분산염료로 염색할 수 있다. 따라서 PLA섬유는 분산염료에 의한 염색법을 중심으로 연구되어지고 있으나, PET 섬유의 융점이 $254^{\circ}C$부근인 반면, PLA섬유는 $160-170^{\circ}C$부근이다. 이로 인해 PLA를 섬유로 용도전개에 있어서 약점으로 작용하고 있다. 그러나 PLA섬유는 특유의 경량감과 새로운 촉감 등의 많은 장점을 지니고 있어 여러 가지 용도전개가 되어지고 있다. 초음파는 사람이 들을 수 없는, 사람마다 한계값은 다르지만, 주파수 약 25kHz이상의 음파를 말하며, 주파수가 높고 파장이 짧기 때문에 강한 진동을 수반한다. 초음파의 이용 원리는 Cavitation이라는 현상으로 생성된 기포가 터지면서 강력한 에너지를 방출한다. 이것은 강력하여 사방으로 퍼져 물질표면이나 내부에 영향을 미친다. 섬유에서는 표면에 뭍은 불순물을 제거하는 세정 등에 응용되고 있으며, 염색분야에서도 다양하게 연구되어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 초음파에 의한 PLA섬유의 염색성을 조사하였다. PLA섬유를 정련하여 초음파작용의 유무에 따라 염색하여 그 결과를 고찰하였다. 초음파 작용에 따른 분산염료의 표면 색변화는 없었으며, 섬유 표면 색 농도의 차이는 초음파 작용에 의하여 저온에서는 차이가 나타나지만, 고온인 $80^{\circ}C$에서는 오히려 낮아졌다.

A Study on the Effectiveness of Remanufacturing Technology for the Catalyzed Diesel Particulate Filter-trap(DPF) Deactivated by Diesel Exhaust Gas (촉매가 담지된 사용후 경유차 매연저감장치 DPF의 재제조 효과에 관한연구)

  • The deactivated catalyzed diesel particulate filter-trap (DPF) was remanufactured by ultrasonic wave treatment with various prepared solutions, followed by active component re-impregnation, and the emission control performance and surface properties of remanufactured DPF were studied at various remanufacturing conditions. The proper ultrasonic wave cleaning time at various prepared solutions and optimal re-impregnation amounts of active component for the best emission control performance of DPF were investigated and its performance tests were also carried out with various temperatures for the conversions of CO, THC (total hydrocarbon) and PM (particulate matter) by catalytic reaction test unit using bypass gas from the diesel engine dynamo system. It was found that the emission control performance of DPF remanufactured with the high-temperature air washing, ultrasonic wave cleaning at acid/base solutions and active component re-impregnation method was recovered to 95% level of its activity compared to that of the fresh DPF, which was caused by removing the deactivating materials from the surface of the DPF, through the analyses of performance test and their surface characterization by Optical microscope, EDX, ICP, TGA, and porosimeter.

Visualization of Disruptive Bubble Behavior in Ultrasonic Fields (초음파장내 파괴적인 기포의 운동 가시화)

  • The bubble oscillations play an important role in ultrasonic cleaning processes. In the ultrasonic cleaning of semiconductor wafers, the cleaning process often damages micro/nano scale patterns while removing contaminant particles. However, the understanding of how patterns in semiconductor wafers are damaged during ultrasonic cleaning is far from complete yet. Here, we report the observations of the motion of bubbles that induce solid wall damage under 26 kHz continuous ultrasonic waves. We classified the motions into the four types, i.e. volume motion, shape motion, splitting or jetting motion and chaotic motion. Our experimental results show that bubble oscillations get unstable and nonlinear as the ultrasonic amplitude increases, which may exert a large stress on a solid surface raising the possibility of damaging microstructures.

  • This paper describes a shower type ultrasonic cleaning system using particle acceleration, developed for better effectiveness in washing out agricultural chemicals from fruits or vegetables, compared to the existing bath type ultrasonic cleaning system. The shower type system consists of a signal generator, a transducer, and a spouting nozzle, mainly. The system has been tested based on the method recommended by Korea Food and Drug Administration. It is found that shower type system shows better performance and cost-effectiveness than the bath type system that is commercially available .

Ultrasonic Field Analysis Using a Sound-Ray Method (음선 기법을 이용한 초음파 음장 해석)

  • This paper deals with the application of a sound-ray method to the analysis of the sound field in an ultrasonic cleaner. In order to include the wave interference phenomenon, the method has been modified to consider the phase of sound rays, The improved algorithm has been implemented by developing a Visual C++ program, The algorithm has been verified by comparing the analysis results of BEM reported earlier. It has been shown that the algorithm can be used to calculate ultrasonic fields in a cleaning- container with an object to be cleaned.
