Rapid and Accurate GPS Data Processing with Ultra-rapid Orbits (초신속궤도력을 이용한 신속한 고정밀 GPS 데이터 처리)

  • Rapid and accurate data processing is required in many GPS(Global Positioning System) applications including surveying. While one can use four different kinds of GPS satellite orbits, we evaluated the accuracy and precision of each kind of orbits to find the best candidate for rapid and accurate data processing. The four different kinds of orbits we: broadcast orbits from GPS satellites; and ultra-rapid orbits, rapid orbits, and precise orbits provided by international GPS data analysis centers such as IGS. With GIPSY and ultra-rapid orbits, we could get the positioning accuracy of 1.5cm from seven days of GPS data. From this study, we conclude that rapid and accurate data processing is achieved with GIPSY and ultra-rapid orbits.

Calculates of GPS Satellite Coordinates Using Rapid and Ultra-Rapid Precise Ephemerides (신속정밀제도력과 초신속정밀궤도력을 이용한 GPS 위성좌표 계산)

  • IGS provides so accute a final precise ephmerides which is offered in the 13rd, and it also offers a rapid precise ephmerides for more prompt application and an ultra-rapid precise ephmerides for real-time application. The purpose of this study is to analyze the accuracy of a rapid precise ephemerides and an ultra-rapid precise ephemerides based on a final precise ephmerides and determine the degree of the Lagrange Interpolation which needs to decide the location of a satellite. As the result of this study, the root mean square error of x,y,z coordinates of a rapid precise ephemerides was $\pm$0.0l6m or so, and the root mean square error of an observed ultra-rapid precise ephemerides was approximately $\pm$0.024m. The root mean square error of an ultra-rapid precise ephemerides predicted for 24 hours was $\pm$0.07m or so and the one of an ultra-rapid precise ephemerides predicted for 6 hours was $\pm$0.04m or so. Therefore, I could figure out that it had higher accuracy than a broadcast ephemerides. Also, in case that the location of a satellite was calculated with the method of the Lagrange Interpolation, it was confirmed that using the 9th order polynomial was efficient.

  • Every time laboratory in the world follows an international standard time scale and GPS (Global Positioning System) is playing an important role. Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science is also operating a permanent GPS station for time transfer. To improve the accuracy and precision of the clock offsets derived from GPS we used carrier phase measurements. In addition, we tested four different kinds of GPS satellite orbits and compared the results. The precision of the time offsets using rapid and ultra-rapid orbits was about 0.5 nanoseconds (ns). Tn the case of broadcast orbits, the precision was better than 2 ns.

GPS Satellite Repeat Time Determination and Orbit Prediction Based on Ultra-rapid Orbits (초신속궤도력 기반 GPS 위성 repeat time 산출 및 궤도 예측)

  • To plan a GPS survey, they have to decide if a survey can be conducted at a specific point and time based on the predicted GPS ephemeris. In this study, to predict ephemeris, we used the repeat time of a GPS satellite. The GPS satellite repeat time was determined by analysing correlation among three-dimensional satellite coordinates provided by the 48-hour GPS ephemeris in the ultra-rapid orbits. By using the calculated repeat time and Lagrange interpolation polynomials, we predicted GPS orbits f3r seven days. As a result, the RMS of the maximum errors in the X, Y, and Z coordinates were 39.8 km 39.7 km and 19.6 km, respectively. And the maximum and average three-dimensional positional errors were 119.5 km and 48.9 km, respectively. When the maximum 3-D positioning error of 119.5 km was translated into the view angle error, the azimuth and elevation angle errors were 9.7'and 14.9', respectively.

Anomaly Detection of IGS Predicted Orbits for Near-Real-Time Positioning Using GPS (GPS기반 준실시간 위치추적을 위한 IGS 예측궤도력 이상 검출)

  • IGS (International GNSS Service) predicted orbits contained in IGS ultra-rapid orbits is suitable for real-time or near-real-time precise positioning. In this paper, we analyzed orbit anomalies of the IGS predicted orbits and detected the anomalies NANU (Current Notice Advisories to NAVSTAR Users) messages and IGS BRDC (Broadcast Ephemerides). As a results, the orbit anomalies of the predicted orbits were observed 93 times in 2010. In case of using the NANUs, we could get detection performance of 88% about the IGS predicted orbits's anomalies. And we could achieve 95% detection performance when the NANUs and BRDCs were used together.

PROCESSING STRATEGY FOR NEAR REAL TIME GPS PRECIPITABLE WATER VAPOR RETRIEVAL (준 실시간 GPS 가강수량 생성을 위한 자료처리 전략)

  • For the application to the numerical weather prediction (NWP) in active service, it is necessary to ensure that the GPS precipitable water vapor (PWV) data has less than one hour latency and three millimeter accuracy. The comparison and the verification between the daily products from GPS measurement by using the IGS final ephemeris and the conventional meteorological observation has been done in domestic researches. In case of using IGS final ephemeris, GPS measurements can be only post processed in daily basis in three weeks after the observation. Thus this method cannot be applied to any near real-time data processing. In this paper, a GPS data processing method to produce the PWV output with three mm accuracy and one hour latency for the data assimilation in NWP has been planned. For our new data processing strategy, IGS ultra-rapid ephemeris and the sliding window technique are applied. And the results from the new strategy has been verified. The GPS measurements during the first 10 days of January, April, July and October were processed. The results from the observations at Sokcho, where the GPS and radiosonde were collocated, were compared. As the results, a data processing strategy with 0.8 mm of mean bias and 1.7 mm of standard deviation in three minutes forty-three seconds has been established.

Development of an Internet Based GPS Data Processing Service (인터넷 기반 GPS 데이터 처리 서비스에 관한 연구)

  • As GPS equipments improve, one can acquire GPS data easily in the field. To obtain precise and accurate coordinates, however, post processing is additionally required and the processing needs high degree of skills. Besides, it is very common that we cannot operate processing softwares in the field because the required system environment is usually not prepared. The aim of this study is the development of an internet-based GPS data processing service. For post processing, we used GIPSY developed by JPL. It has many advantages such as obtaining coordinates quickly by using precise or predicted ephemeris. This service proceeds as following orders by interlocking GIPSY software and internet service which is operated on a Linux platform: Users upload the raw data file on the internet, then GIPSY runs automatically and then the user gets the result in the field. We use an Apache web server as the hosting program and PHP scripts are used in coding web pages. The total processing time including data-uploading was around 30 seconds for a 24-hour data with a 30-second sampling rate.
