Reliability of Nonlinear Direct Spectrum Method with Mixed Building Structures (복합구조물에 대한 비선형 직접스펙트럼법의 신뢰성)

  • Most structures are expected to deform beyond the limit of linearly elastic behavior when subjected to strong ground motion. Seismic evaluation of structure requires an estimation of the structural performance in terms of displacement demand imposed by earthquakes on the structure. The nonlinear response history analysis(NRHA) among various nonlinear analysis methods is the most accurate to compute seismic performance of structures, but it is time-consuming and necessitate more efforts. The nonlinear approximate methods, which is more practical and reliable tools for predicting seismic behavior of structures, are extensively studied. Among them, the capacity spectrum method(CSM) is conceptually simple, but the iterative procedure is time-consuming and may sometimes lead to no solution or multiple solutions. This paper considers a nonlinear direct spectrum method(NDSM) to evaluate seismic performance of mixed building structures without iterative computations, given dynamic property T from stiffness skeleton curve and nonlinear pseudo acceleration $A_{y}$/g and/or ductility ratio $\mu$ from response spectrum. The nonlinear response history analysis has been performed and analyzed with various earthquakes for estimation of reliability and practicality of NDSM with mixed building structures.

Resistance Curves of Concrete CLWL-DCB Specimens (콘크리트 CLWL-DCB 시험편의 저항곡선)

  • The resistance curves (R-curves) for 381 m crack extension of CLWL-DCB specimens had been determined. The average velocities of the crack extension measured with strain gages were 0.70 and 55 ㎜/sec. The measured rotation angle of the notch faces showed the existence of the singularity at least before 171 and 93 mm crack extensions for the 0.70 and 55 ㎜/sec crack velocities, respectively. The maximum slopes of the R-curves occurred between 25 and 89 ㎜ crack extensions for 0.70 ㎜/sec crack velocity and between 51 and 127 ㎜ crack extensions for 55 ㎜/sec crack velocity During the maximum slopes of the R-curves, the micro-crack localization can be expected, and faster crack velocity may form longer micro-cracking and micro-crack localizing zones. The fracture resistance of 0.70 ㎜/sec crack velocity reached a roughly constant maximum value of 143 N/m at 152 ㎜ crack extension, while that of 55 ㎜/sec crack velocity increased continuously to 245 N/m at 254 ㎜ crack extension and then decreased to the value of 0.70 ㎜/sec crack velocity. The R-curve of 55 ㎜/sec crack velocity was similar to that of the small size three-point bend test, and it showed that small size specimen or fast crack velocity could cause more brittle behavior.

  • The prognosis for class III patients in growing child can be made in mixed dentition and the severity of the symptom is often amenable to early intervention. Class III malocclusion can be classified as functional class lit and skeletal origin. Skeletal Class III malocclusion is usually characterized by overdeveloped mandible, underdeveloped maxilla, but the cause of pseudo class III is most dentoalveolar or functional shift of mandible. The primary goal of early intervention of malocclusion is to supply an environment that is conducive to the development of favorable occlusal relationships and avoiding of worsening of the problems. Inverted labial bow appliance is introduced as an appliance to combine the advantage of active plate and activator. It is undemanding with this appliance to initiate not only dentoalveolar expansion of upper dentition but also to orient the functional retrusion of mandible. With simple design the compliance for patients such as mouth breathing problem can be improved. For successful use of this appliance it is utmost important to make accurate and early diagnosis between pseudo- and skeletal class III malocclusion. This article will demonstrate the use of an Inverted labial bow appliance for early treatment of a functional Class III malocclusion. After 4 month treatment, anterior crossbite was treated and the results were achieved mainly dentoalveolar change of upper and lower anterior teeth.

교류형 플라즈마 방전 표시기 방전유지 전압의 전압 상승 시간의 변화에 따른 방전 현상의 변화

  • 교류형 플라즈마 방전 표시기(AC Plasma Display Panel, AC PDP)의 구동에서의 방전 현상은 기입방전, 유지방전, 소거 방전이 있다. 이중 유지 방전은 표시장치로서의 휘도와 계조의 표현을 위한 방전으로 표시기로서의 효율을 결정하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 유지 방전 전압의 상승 시간의 변화에 따른 방전현상과 휘도, 효율의 변화를 살펴 보았다. 방전 현상에서의 가장 큰 변화는 교류형 플라즈마 방전 표시기의 방전 개시 전압과 방전 유지 전압의 변화이다. 유지 전압의 상승시간이 증가할수록 방전 개시 전압과 방전 유지 전압의 변화이다. 유지 전압의 상승 시간이 증가할수록 방전 개시 전압과 방전 유지 전압의 차(sustain margin)는 감소하여 상승 시간이 1$\mu$s/100V 이상의 영역에서는 방전 개시 전압과 방전 유지 전압이 차이가 없어지게 된다. 이는 방전 유지 전극 위의 유전체에 쌓이게 되는 벽전하(wall charge) 양의 감소에 의한 방전 약화의 영향을 보여질 수 있다. 그러나 방전 유지 전압의 형태와 전류의 시간적인 변화를 살펴보면 이러한 약한 방전은 벽전하의 감소에 의한 방전 시의 전계 감소보다는 방전 전류의 발생 시간이 방전 전압이 증가하여 최고점에 이르지 못한 시간에 위치하여 방전이 형성될 때의 전계가 강하지 못하기 때문인 것을 알 수 있다. 방전 전류를 측정한 결과에 의하면 방전 전류의 시작은 변위 전류가 흐르고 난 후부터 시작되며 그 결과 방전 전류가 최고점에 도달하는 시간은 방전 전압 상승 시간이 길어질수록 낮은 전압에서 형성되게 된다. 또한 방전 유지 전압의 상승 시간이 길어질수록 플라즈마 방전표시기의 휘도와 효율은 낮아지고 이 결과 또한 약한 전계에서의 방전에 의한 결과로 생각되어진다.플라즈마의 강도값을 입력하여 플라즈마의 radiation을 검출하고, 스퍼터링 공정중 실질적인 in-situ 정보로 이용하였다. PEM을 통하여 In/Sn의 플라즈마 강도변화를 조사하였다. 초기 In/Sn의 플라즈마 강도(intensity)는 강도를 100하여, 산소를 주입한 결과, plasma intensity가 35 줄어들었고, 이때 우수한 ITO 박막을 얻을 수 있었다. Pulsed DC power를 사용하여 아크 현상을 방지하였다. PET 상에 coating 된 ITO 박막의 표면저항과 광투과도는 4-point prove와 spectrophotometer를 이용하여 분석하였고, AES로 박막의 두께에 따른 성분비를 확인하였다. ITO 박막의 광투과도는 산소의 유량과 sputter 된 In/Sn ion의 plasma emission peak에 따라 72%-92%까지 변화하였으며, 저항은 37$\Omega$/$\square$ 이상을 나타내었다. 박막의 Sn/In atomic ratio는 0.12, O/In의 비율은 In2O3의 화학양론적 비율인 1.5보다 작은 1.3을 나타내었다.로 보인다.하면 수평축과 수직축의 분산 장벽의 비에 따라 cluster의 두께비가 달라지는 성장을 볼 수 있었고, 한 축 방향으로의 팔 넓이는 fcc(100) 표면의 경우 동일한 Ed+Ep값에 대응하는 팔 넓이와 거의 동일한 결과가 나타나는 것을 볼 수 있다. 따라서 이러한 비대칭적인 모양을 가지는 성장의 경우도 cluster 밀도, cluster 모양, cluster의 양 축 방향 길이 비, 양 축 방향의 평균 팔 넓이로부터 각 축 방향의 분산 장벽을 얻어낼 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 기대할 수 있는 여러 장점들을 보고하고자 한다.성이 우수한 시

Dynamic Behaviour of Masonry inFilled Reinforced Concrete Frames with Non-Seismic Details (진동대실험을 통한 비내진상세를 가지는 RC 골조의 조적채움벽 유무에 따른 동적 거동 평가)

  • In this paper, the shake table test for the masonry infilled reinforced concrete frame with non-seismic details was carried out in order to evaluate its dynamic behaviour and damage under seismic condition. The tested specimens were the RC frame and the masonry infilled RC frame and the dynamic characteristics, such as a resonant period, acceleration response, displacement response and base shear force response, were compared between them. As a result of the shake table test, RC frame specimen had flexural cracks at the top and bottom of the column and shear cracks at the joints. In the case of masonry infilled RC frame, the damage of the frame was relatively minor but the sliding cracks and diagonal shear cracks on the masonry wall were severe at the final excitation. The resonant period of infilled RC frame specimen was shorter than that of the RC frame specimen because the masonry infill contributed to increase the stiffness. The maximum displacement response of the infilled RC frame specimen was decreased by about 20% than the RC frame specimen. It was analyzed that the masonry infill wall applied in this study contributed to increase the lateral strength of the RC frame with non - seismic detail by about 2.2 times and the stiffness by about 1.6 times.

A Simple Numerical Procedure for Assessing the Effect of Ground Improvement Around a Circular Tunnel Excavated in Mohr-Coulomb Rock Mass (Mohr-Coulomb 암반에 굴착된 원형터널의 보강효과 해석을 위한 간편 수치해석법)

  • When a tunnel is excavated in a rock mass of poor condition, the adjacent zone of excavation surface may be reinforced by adopting the appropriate methods such as grouting and rock bolting. The reinforced effect can be evaluated by use of various numerical approaches, where the reinforcing elements may be expressed as distinct discretizations or smeared into the equivalent material properties. In this study, a simple numerical method, which can be classified as the latter approach, was developed for the elasto-plastic analysis of a circular tunnel. If a circular tunnel in a Mohr-Coulomb rock mass is reinforced to a finite thickness, the reinforced annulus may have different material properties from the in-situ rock mass. In the proposed elasto-plastic method for assessing the reinforcing effect, Lee & Pietruszczak (2007)'s method is applied to both the reinforced annulus and the outer insitu rock mass of the fictitious tunnel, and then two results are combined by enforcing the compatibility condition. The method were verified through comparing the results with the proposed method and the commercial finite difference code FLAC. When taking the variation of deformation modulus and strength parameters in the reinforced zone into account, the distributions of stress and radial displacement were much different from those obtained with the assumption of homogeneous rock mass.

Estimating Stability Indices from the MODIS Infrared Measurements over the Korean Peninsula (MODIS 적외 자료를 이용한 한반도 지역의 대기 안정도 지수 산출)

  • An algorithm was developed to estimate stability indices (SI) over the Korean peninsula using Terra Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) infrared brightness temperatures (TBs). The SI is defined as the stability of the atmosphere in the hydrostatic equilibrium with respect to the vertical displacements and is used as an index for the potential severe storm development. Using atmosphere temperature and moisture profiles from Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System (RDAPS) as initial guess data for a nonlinear physical relaxation method, K index (KI), KO Index (KO), lifted index (LI), and maximum buoyancy (MB) were estimated. A fast radiative transfer model, RTTOV-7, is utilized for reducing the computational burden related to the physical relaxation method. The estimated TBs from the radiative transfer simulation are in good agreement with observed MODIS TBs. To test usefulness for the short-term forecast of severe storms, the algorithm is applied to the rapidly developed convective storms. Compared with the SIs from the RDAPS forecasts and NASA products, the MODIS SI obtained in this research predicts the instability better over the pre-convection areas. Thus, it is expected that the nowcasting and short-term forecast can be improved by utilizing the algorithms developed in this study.

Experimental study on the Flexural Capacity of U-shape Composite Beam (U-형 복합보의 휨 성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, a U-shape composite beam was developed to be effectively used for a steel parking lot which is 8m or lower in height. When the U-shape composite beam was applied to a steel parking lot, essential considerations were story-height and long-span. In addition, due to the mixed structural system with reinforced concrete and steel material, the U-shape composite beam needed to have a structural integrity and reliable performance over demand capacity. The main objective of this study was to investigate the performance of the structure consisting of the reinforced concrete (RC) slab and U-shape beam. A U-shape composite beam generally used at a parking lot served as a control specimen. Four specimens were tested under four-point bending. To calculate theoretical values, strain gauges were attached to rebar, steel plate, and concrete surface in the middle of the specimens. As the results, initial yielding strength of the control specimen occurred at the bottom of the U-shaped steel. After yielding, the specimen reached the maximum strength and the RC slab concrete was finally failed by concrete crush due to compressive stress. The structural performance such as flexural strength and ductility of the specimen with the increased beam depth was significantly improved in comparison with the control specimen. Furthermore, the design of the U-shape composite beam with the consideration of flexural strength and ductility was effective since the structural performance by a negative loading was relatively decreased but the ductile behavior was evidently improved.

Pile-cap Connection Behavior between Hollow-Head Precast Reinforced Concrete Pile and Foundation (프리캐스트 철근콘크리트 중공 말뚝과 기초 접합부 반복가력 거동)

  • Recently, most of the pile foundations have been applied as a method to transfer the heavy load of the structure to the ground with high bearing capacity. In this study, the pile-cap behavior between foundation and hollow-head precast reinforced concrete(HPC) pile reinforced with longitudinal rebar and filling concrete was experimentally evaluated depending on the cyclic load and reinforcement ratio. As the drift ratio increases, it was found that the cracks pattern and fracture behavior of two types of pile-cap specimens according to the reinforcement ratio were evaluated to be similar. As the reinforcement ratio increases by 1.77 times, the BS-H25 specimen increases the maximum load by 1.47 times compared to the BS-H19 specimen. However, the ductility ratio of positive and negative was decreased by 76% and 70% respectively. After the yielding of the pile-cap reinforcing rebars, the positive and negative stiffness of the all specimens were decreased by a range from 66% to 71% and a range from 54% to 57% respectively, and the average stiffness of BS-H25 specimen is 13% higher than that of BS-H19 specimen. The cumulative dissipated energy capacity of BS-H19 and BS-H25 specimen under ultimate load state is 5.5 times and 6.6 times higher than that of service load state.

Construction of Logic Trees and Hazard Curves for Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Analysis (확률론적 지진해일 재해도평가를 위한 로직트리 작성 및 재해곡선 산출 방법)

  • Due to the difficulties in forecasting the intensity and the source location of tsunami the countermeasures prepared based on the deterministic approach fail to work properly. Thus, there is an increasing demand of the tsunami hazard analyses that consider the uncertainties of tsunami behavior in probabilistic approach. In this paper a fundamental study is conducted to perform the probabilistic tsunami hazard analysis (PTHA) for the tsunamis that caused the disaster to the east coast of Korea. A logic tree approach is employed to consider the uncertainties of the initial free surface displacement and the tsunami height distribution along the coast. The branches of the logic tree are constructed by reflecting characteristics of tsunamis that have attacked the east coast of Korea. The computational time is nonlinearly increasing if the number of branches increases in the process of extracting the fractile curves. Thus, an improved method valid even for the case of a huge number of branches is proposed to save the computational time. The performance of the discrete weight distribution method proposed first in this study is compared with those of the conventional sorting method and the Monte Carlo method. The present method is comparable to the conventional methods in its accuracy, and is efficient in the sense of computational time when compared with the conventional sorting method. The Monte Carlo method, however, is more efficient than the other two methods if the number of branches and the number of fault segments increase significantly.
