Lipid metabolic effects of caffeine using meta-analysis (메타분석을 이용한 카페인의 지질대사효과)

  • The present study was carried out to summarize the effect of caffeine in the lipid metabolic by meta-analysis. The association measure to test effect of caffeine was the Hedges's standardized mean difference (HG). In this particular fixed-effect model of Hedges's standardized mean difference, weight gain, heart weight, serum total lipid, serum triglycerides and liver triglycerides were significantly decreased (p < 0.05). Also, serum HDL cholesterol and serum LDL cholesterol were significantly increased. In this case of heterogeneous variable, random effect model was applied. In this model, weight gain, heart weight, serum total lipid, serum triglycerides, serum LDL cholesterol and liver triglycerides were significantly decreased in caffeine treated group. Also HDL-cholesterol was significantly increased in caffeine treated group.

Relationship of Initial Chick Weight to Body Weight in Broiler (브로일러의 발생시 체중이 출하체중에 미치는 영향)

  • The study was carried out to determine if a difference in initial chick weight was still evident in market body weight(6 or 8 week body weight) of broilers. The data of a total of 800 broiler commercial chick raised at Poultry Breeding Farm, Seoul National University from Aug. 6, 1981 to Oct. 1, 1981 were analysed. The results were summarized as follows: 1. Although the initial chick weight was about the same, male chick grew more rapidly than female and sex difference was the most striking factor in growth rate of broiler in this analysis. 2. The relationship between initial chick weight and body weight after hatching was decreased to the increase of weeks of age in both sexes. Though the correlation coefficients of the 6 week and 8 week body weight to the initial chick weight were 0.15 & 0.15 in female and 0.18 & 0.17 in male, the relationship was highly significant in both sexes. 3. Regressions of 6 and 8 week body weight on the initial chick weight in both sexes indicate that, for each increase of one gram in weight of chick at hatching, the average increase in body weight was 8.33 gram & 10.07 gram in female and 7.85 gram & 11.28 gram in male. Results show that the initial chick weight (1 day of age) influence average body weight of commercial broiler at 6 and 8 weeks of age.

The Effect of Nutrition Education on Visceral Fat Reduction and Diet Quality in Postmenopausal Women (폐경 여성의 내장지방 및 식사의 질에 미치는 영양 교육의 효과)

  • This study investigated the effects of the nutrition education on body weight, visceral fat and diet quality in the postmenopausal women. The subjects (n = 101) were randomly divided into two groups: Nutrition education + Exercise (NEE) group (n = 51) and Exercise only (EO) group (n = 50). Nutrition education was consisted of counseling in portion control, food selection for low carbohydrate, high fiber food items and for the improvement in micronutrient intakes and diet quality. After 6 months, the reduction in the body weight and visceral fat area was significantly greater in the NEE than in the EO group. The NEE subjects were further divided into two groups according to the amount of visceral fat area reduction; high visceral fat area loss (HVL) group with a visceral fat area reduction 2.35% or greater and low visceral fat area loss (LVL) group with a reduction less than 2.35%. In the HVL group, the reduction in body weight, BMI, percent body fat, waist to hip ratio and visceral fat area was significantly greater than that in the LVL group. We observed a significant increase in the serum HDL-cholesterol level and a decrease in systolic blood pressure, fasting blood sucrose, total and LDL-cholesterol levels in the HVL group compared to the LVL group. The energyadjusted protein, fiber, calcium, vitamin $B_6$, vitamin C, vitamin E intakes were significantly increased in the HVL compared to LVL group. The index of nutritional quality (INQ) and mean adequacy ratio (MAR) were also increased in the HVL group compared to the LVL group. These results show that our nutrition education program was an effective intervention measure for the reduction of body weight and visceral fat, blood pressure, glucose and lipid levels in the blood and also for the improvement of nutrient intake and diet quality in postmenopausal women who are overweight.

  • The purpose of this work was to examine the effect of peptide on blood pressure and serum lipid concentration of spontaneously hypertensive rat(SHR). This peptide was extracted from beef muscle hydrolysates and identified as hexapeptide, V-L-A-Q-Y-K. This peptide showed angiotensin converting enzymc(ACE) inhibition activity in vitro experimentation$(IC_50: I38.34{\mu}\ell$/ml). Diets containing 0.2g. 0.5g. and 1.0g of the peptide per kg body weight were fed to SHR every day for 8 weeks while the control group was ted on a diet and lml of drinking water instead of the peptide. Total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol concentrations of the treatment groups were lower than those of the control diet feeding group. The significant suppression of systolic blood pressure was shown by increasing the concentration of peptide supplement. especially by 3 weeks of feeding. although it started fluctuating later. These results suggest that the peptide may beneficially affect blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rat by the 3-week administration.

Effect of Synagis (palivizumab) prophylaxis on readmission due to respiratory syncytial virus in very low birth weight infants (극소 저체중 출생아에서 Synagis (palivizumab) 접종이 respiratory syncytial virus 감염으로 인한 재입원에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of $Synagis^{(R)}$ (palivizumab) in reducing the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) readmission rate in very low birth weight infants (VLBWI ) and the subgroup that showed the most effective vaccination. Methods : We enrolled 350 VLBWI who had been discharged alive from the neonatal intensive care unit of Samsung Medical Center from January 2005 to December 2007 and were followed up for at least one year. A retrospective study based on medical records was performed for a period of one year after discharge. RSV readmission rate was investigated according to BPD (bronchopulmonary dysplasia, requiring oxygen at postnatal day 28) and $Synagis^{(R)}$ prophylaxis. We categorized the subgroups by the severity of BPD gestational age, and birth weight and compared the RSV readmission rates between subgroups. Results : Eleven VLBWI were readmitted. $Synagis^{(R)}$ prophylaxis resulted in a 86% reduction in the rate of readmission due to RSV infection (prophylaxis group, 0.7% and no prophylaxis group, 5.0%; P =0.02). Readmission rate in BPD patients was also reduced in the prophylaxis group (0.7% in the prophylaxis group vs. 5.2% in the no prophylaxis group, P =0.03). The readmission rate in patients without BPD was reduced in the prophylaxis group (0% in the prophylaxis group vs. 4.9% in the no prophylaxis group, P =1.00), but this was not statistically significant.Conclusion : $Synagis^{(R)}$ prophylaxis was effective at reducing RSV readmission in VLBWI. Its efficacy was verified irrespective of BPD, gestational age, or birth weight.

  • 당뇨병을 앓고 있는 환자들 중 비만 때문에 고생하는 환자들이 매우 많다. 당뇨병의 발병 원인이 아직 완전히 다 밝혀진 것은 아니지만 유전적인 원인과 근육이나 지방조직 등 말초조직에서의 인슐린저항성, 췌장에서의 인슐린분비기능의 감소 등이 가장 큰 원인인 것으로 알려져 있다. 특히 비만이 관계하는 말초조직의 인슐린 저항성이 당뇨 발병 원인의 주요 요인으로 꼽히고 있다는 것은 주목해야 할 사항이다. 또한 비만한 당뇨인들은 체중조절이 되지 않는 만큼 혈당조절에도 실패할 수밖에 없다. 비만한 당뇨병환자분들, 올해는 체중감량으로 건강한 한해를 보냅시다.

Effects of a low glycemic load diet on body weight loss in overweight or obese young adults (식단의 당부하량에 따른 20대 성인의 체중 감량 효과 연구)

  • Purpose: This study compared the effects of a high glycemic load (high GL) diet and low glycemic load (low GL) diet on the body weight, body fat, blood pressure, and blood lipid indicators. Methods: Twenty-one young adults aged between 21 and 28 years who were overweighted or obese (body mass index [BMI] between 23 and 33.5 kg/㎡) before the study and after calorie reduction diets with either low GL or high GL for 2 weeks each were examined. The study was a randomized crossover design with a 2-week washout period between the 2 types of diet. The order of the low GL and high GL diet periods was randomized. The body weight, body fat, blood pressure, levels of blood lipids, fasting glucose, insulin, homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) insulin, C-peptide, and HOMA C-peptide were measured at the baseline, as well as 2, 4, and 6 weeks after starting the experiment. Results: When subjects were on the low GL diet, they lost more weight than those eating the high GL diet (mean ± SD, -2.77 ± 1.09 vs. -1.56 ± 0.78 kg; p < 0.001); there were greater decreases in body fat mass (-1.62 ± 1.19 vs. -0.88 ± 0.91 kg; p = 0.024) and BMI (-0.95 ± 0.32 vs. -0.56 ± 1.08 kg/㎡; p < 0.001). On the other hand, there were no significant differences in changes in biochemical parameters, such as blood lipids and fasting glucose levels, and blood pressure. The body weight, body fat mass, BMI, percent body fat, blood pressure, cholesterol (total, low-density lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein), fasting glucose, C-peptide, HOMA-insulin resistance-C-peptide levels were decreased significantly at 6 weeks. Conclusion: The low GL diet may be more effective in losing body weight, body fat mass, and BMI than the high GL diet for 2 weeks in healthy young overweight or obese adults.

  • 목적 : 적소두가 비만에 관하여 어떠한 효능을 발휘하는 가를 살펴보고자 하였다. 방법 : 적소두의 추출물을 고지방식이 흰쥐에 투여한 후 체중, 혈청 중의 변화 및 조직화학적 변화에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 결과 : 체중에 미치는 영향을 살펴보면, 대조군에 비하여 체증이 감소되었으나, 유의성은 없었다. 혈청 중 triglyceride, free fatty acid 함량이 대조군에 비하여 유의성 있게 감소하였다. 부고환 지방세포의 평균 면적에서는 대조군에 비하여 감소 되었으나 유의성은 없었으며 , 간소엽내 지방면적 비율의 감소는 대조군에 비하여 유의성이 있었다. 결론 : 적소두는 임상에서 비만증의 치료에 응용할 수 있을 것으로 생각되며, 특히, 이수소종의 치료법이 필요할 경우에 더 좋은 효능을 발휘할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

기능성 탄수화물소재를 이용한 당뇨치료식 개발

  • 본 연구는 저열량 기능성 탄수화물 소재(저항전분, 식이섬유)를 이용하여 당뇨병 환자의 혈당과 지방대사를 조절하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 치료식을 개발하기 위해 동물실험과 임상실험을 수행하여 제품의 혈당 및 지방대사 조절, 혈당조절호르몬, 장내기능조절 효과를 검증하였다. 또한 동물실험을 통해 대장에서 염증을 일으키는 것으로 알려진 deoxycholate (DOC)를 식이무게의 2%로 첨가하고, HAS는 일반전분의 50%로 대체시켰을 때 HAS가 DOC의 염증작용에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보아 HAS의 장기능 개선에 대한 기능성을 환인해보았고 저항전분이 혈당 및 혈액내 지질조성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 인체실험 연구결과는 저항 전분을 섭취한 군에서 체중이 유의적으로 감소하였고 비만도를 나타내는 BMI도 감소하여 개발된 선식제품의 체중감소 효과가 입증되었다. 당대사 결과는 동물실험의 경우는 저항전분을 섭취한 군에서 혈당감소를 나타내고 있으나 인체실험의 경우 선식제품 섭취 후 혈당과 인슐린의 농도가 영향을 받지 않았으며 혈액 내 지방성분은 동물실험에서는 혈액내 총지방과 중성지방이 저항전분 섭취시 감소하였고, 인체실험의 경우 저항전분 시제품 섭취 후에 혈액내 중성지방량은 약간 증가하였으나 총지방량과 총콜레스테롤량, LDL-콜레스테롤량은 감소하는 효과를 보여주었다. 또한 면역능력에 대한 지표는 저항전분 시제품 섭취 후 혈액 내 면역글로부린 G가 유의적으로 증가 하였다. 동물실험을 통한 저항전분의 장기능에 관한 연구결과는 저항전분의 한 형태인 HAS의 섭취가 대장길이와 맹장무게를 증가시키며, 맹장에서의 비피더스균의 증식을 가져와 장내 SCFA의 생산을 증가시키고, 맹장내 pH 감소를 가져오며 대장 점막에서의 PGE2의 생산을 감소시켜 장 기능개선의 효과를 나타내고 있다. 그리고 이러한 효과는 DOC섭취에 의한 부작용을 완화시키는 작용을 하였다. 또한 저항전분의 동물실험 겨로가는 혈당을 감소시키며, 혈액지방 수준을 감소시키는 효과를 나타내므로 저항전분의 섭취는 장긴\ulcorner 개선, 혈당유지, 혈액지방수준 개선의 효과가 있는 것으로 보인다.
