Analysis of Liquefied Layer Activities Considering Erosion and Sedimentation of Debris Flow (토석류의 침식 및 퇴적을 고려한 유동층의 거동 분석)

  • Heavy rainfall is in causing debris flow by recent climate change and causes much damage in the downstream. The debris flow from the mountainous area runs to the downstream, repeating sedimentation and erosion, and appears as a fluidized soil-water mixture. Continuity equation and momentum equation were applied to analyze the debris flow with strong mobility, and the sedimentation and erosion velocity with fine particle fractions were also applied. This study is to analyze the behavior of debris flow at the downstream end for the variation of the amount of sediments can occur in the upstream of the mountain. Analysis of sediment volume concentration at the downstream end of the channel due to the variance of the length of pavement of the granulated soils resulted in the higher the supply flow discharge and the longer the length of pavement, the greater the difference in the level of sediment concentration and the earlier the point of occurrence of the inflection point. The results of this study will provide good information for determining the erosion-sedimentation velocity rate which can detect erosion and sedimentation on steep slopes.

An Experimental Research About Settling and Consolidation Characteristic of Dredged Soil in West Coast (서해안 준설토의 침강압밀특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, settling experiment was performed about cohesive and sandy soils among representative sample expected to dredge and dump for analysis of settling and consolidation characteristic. The analysis showed the definite difference between cohesive soils and sandy soils of relationships with settling and consolidation coefficient, a water content, interfacial heights. But directly after a dredged reclamation, prediction results about a initial volume change showed that cohesive soil of a water content change was decreased rapidly as time goes by, but sandy soils made no difference in a water content change. Results were compared and analyzed with the settling and consolidation coefficient and a initial settling velocity by real soil amounts for a feasibility check about test conditions applied to these experiment: we judge that test conditions are appropriate, each material by such these analyses suggests the scope of settling and consolidation coefficient, average and the representative relational formula.

Propagation of Elastic Waves in Fiber Reinforced Composites (섬유강화 복합재료 내의 탄성파 전파)

  • A dynamic self-consistent method previously proposed and validated for the composites containing spherical inclusions is applied to the simplest two dimensional problems : SH wave propagation in unidirectional fiber reinforced composites. The self-consistent conditions for SH wave are derived without limitation on frequency and the wave speed and coherent attenuation are calculated for two composites. THe results of the present theory are compared with those of the multiple scattering theories and another self-consistent theory. At low volume fractions, the present theoretical results coincide with those of the multiple scattering theory using exact pair-correlation function, whereas the results based on another self-consistent theory deviate markedly from the others. As the volume fraction increases, the three theories give different results although they have qualitatively similar trends. The present theoretical results for composites considered in this paper exhibit less dispersion and physically realizable attenuation. An important observation is that the multiple scattering theory predicts vanishingly small attenuation at low frequency with volume fraction is high.

A Study on Simulation of Dam-break Wave Using Two-dimensional Finite Volume Model (2차원 유한체적모형을 이용한 댐 붕괴파 모의에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, in order to reduce the numerical oscillation due to the unbalance between source and flux terms as the HLLC scheme is applied to the flow analysis on the irregular bed topography, a unstructured finite volume model based on the well-balanced HLLC scheme and the shallow water equations is developed and applied to problems of dam-break waves. The well-balanced HLLC scheme considers directly the gradient of bed topography as the flux terms is calculated. This scheme provides the good numerical balance between the source and flux terms in the case of the application to the steady-state transcritical flow. To verify the numerical model developed in this study, it is applied to three cases of hydraulic model experiments and a field case study of Mapasset dam failure (France). As a result of the verification, the predicted numerical results agree relatively well with available laboratory and field measurements. The model provides slightly more accurate results compared with the existing models.

  • Heat transfer phenomena during inward freezing process of the water in a horizontal cylinder were experimentally studied. The cooling temperature of a wall more significantly affects the timewise average temperature than the initial superheating temperature of the water. In addition, it was absolved that the timewise average temperature was influenced by the initial volume ratio of the water($V_l/V_{tot}$) at the same temperature conditons. One the other hand, the freezing speed of the upper part in the water-ice interface was quickly progressed due to natural convection. Furthermore, experimental observation showed that the frozen mass fraction($M_s/M_{tot}$) was influenced by the initial volume ratio of the water($V_l/V_{tot}$). It was noted that the frozen mass fraction for each $V_l/V_{tot}$ represented by $Ste^*$ and Fo.

  • 댐 및 제방 등의 수공구조물 붕괴에 의한 극한홍수 전파를 해석하기 위한 2차원 홍수 해석기법에는 현재까지 다양한 기법들이 개발되어 왔고 다양한 모형들이 상용화 또는 범용화 되고 있다. 그 중 흐름의 전파양상을 정확하게 반영할 수 있는 상류이송기법인 Godunov형태의 유한체적기법은 충격파와 같은 불연속적인 해를 가지는 문제를 정확히 해석할 수 있고, 비구조적 격자 사용의 용이성 등의 장점 때문에 2차원 홍수파 전파 해석에 있어서 최근 십수년간 가장 활발하게 연구되어왔다. 하지만 이러한 기법은 양해법을 근간으로 하는 해석 기법으로써, 계산거리의 간격이나 계산시간의 간격, 격자망의 구성 등 엄격한 제한이 필요하다. 특히 방대한 계산시간을 요구하는 기법의 약점은 홍수예 경보 등을 위한 실시간 모형의 구동에 있어서 큰 제약이 되어 왔다. CPU의 성능이 지속적으로 발전하면서 이러한 문제는 점차 극복되어 왔으나, 발열 등의 문제와 이를 극복하기 위한 멀티코어의 등장으로 인해 단일 코어의 성능개발은 매우 더딘 것이 사실이다. 현재까지 연구되고 개발되어 온 모형들은 특별한 처리 없이는 단일 코어만을 사용하여 계산할 수 밖에 없기 때문에 멀티코어의 장점을 전혀 이용할 수 없다. 이러한 점을 극복하기 위해 프로그램을 병렬화하여 단일 문제에 대해 멀티코어를 사용할 수 있다면 계산시간 단축에 큰 효과를 거둘 수 있을 것이다. 현재까지 IT분야에서 다양한 병렬프로그래밍 기법들이 개발되고 소개되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 병렬프로그래밍 기법중 가장 널리 사용되고 있는 MPI(Message Passing Interface)기법을 적용함으로써 기 개발된 고정확도 유한체적모형을 병렬화 하여 계산시간을 단축하고자 하였다. 개발된 모형을 장애물이 존재하는 실험하도의 댐 붕괴 문제와 2002년 태풍 루사 시 큰 피해를 입은 강릉시 일원의 섬석천 유역에 위치한 장현저수지와 동막저수지의 붕괴사례에 대해 적용하였다. 모형을 코어 개수별로 다양하게 모의함으로써 기존모형과의 결과에 대한 일치성을 확인하였고, 기존 모형 대비 계산시간 단축의 효과를 입증할 수 있었다. 개발된 본 모형을 실시간 홍수범람해석을 위한 시스템으로 구축할 수 있다면, 실시간 홍수예 경보에 있어 주요지점에서의 수위해석 뿐만이 아닌 제내지 범람 예보 분야까지 확대 적용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Droplet Transport Mechanism on Horizontal Hydrophilic/Hydrophobic Surfaces (친수성/소수성 수평 표면상에서의 액적이송 메커니즘)

  • A fluid transport technique is a key issue for the development of microfluidic systems. In this study, the movement of a droplet on horizontal hydrophilic/hydrophobic surfaces, which is a new concept to transport droplets without external power sources that was recently proposed by the author, was simulated using an in-house solution code(PowerCFD). This code employs an unstructured cell-centered method based on a conservative pressure-based finite-volume method with interface capturing method(CICSAM) in a volume of fluid(VOF) scheme for phase interface capturing. The droplet transport mechanism is examined through numerical results that include velocity vectors, pressure contours, and total kinetic energy inside and around the droplet.

Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Flows in Inlet Duct of Heat Recovery Steam Generator (배열회수 안내덕트 내부의 난류유동 수치시뮬레이션)

  • Turbulent flows are numerically simulated in the three dimensional inlet duct for heat recovery steam generator. The present study is aimed to analyze the effect of a variation in turbulent flow pattern by the change of roof angle in the transition duct. The finite volume based Navier-Stokes equations with unstructured grids are solved to make clear the flow dynamic phenomena. Reviews are made on with the data of path lines, velocity vectors, dynamic pressure, residuals for numerical convergence and so on. The k-epsilon, k-omega, Reynolds stress and RNG k-epsilon are used for generation of turbulence. Two types of roof angle are applied with and without the swirl in the duct. Turbulent flow patterns could be investigated for the optimum duct design based on the computational results.

The Effects of Pulsating Flow on Volumetric Efficiency in the Intake and Exhaust System in a Turbocharged Diesel Engine (흡.배기 시스템의 맥동류가 과급디젤기관의 체적효율에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper deals with the effects of pulsating flow on volumetric efficiency, which may be generated during the gas exchange procedure, due to piston motion, valve event on intake and exhaust stroke and unsteady flow of turbocharger of a three-cylinder four stroke turbo-charged diesel engine. Consequently, volumetric efficiency affects significantly the engine performance; torque characteristics, fuel economy and further to emission and noise level. As the expansion ratio became larger the engine speed varies and torque increases, the pressure pulsation in an exhaust gas pipe acts as an increasing factor of intake air charging capacity totally. The phase and amplitude of pressure pulsation in the intake system only affects volumetric efficiency favorably, if it is well matched and tuned effectively to the engine. Thus, to verify the exact phase and amplitude of the pressure variation is the ultimate solution for the air-flow ratio assessment in the intake stroke. Some experimental results of pressure diagrams in the intake pipe and gas-flow of turbine in-outlet are presented, under various kinds of operating condition.

A Numerical Study on Characteristics of Dam-break Wave Propagation through an Idealized Urban Area (가상의 도시지역을 관통하는 댐 붕괴파의 전파특성에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • 본 연구에서는 댐 붕괴시 발생하는 홍수파가 건물군으로 이루어진 가상의 도시지역을 관통하면서 이동될 경우 시간에 따라 변화되는 특성을 수치적으로 분석하였다. 분석에 적용된 수치모형은 2차원 유한체적법과 불연속 흐름을 모의하기 위해 시간과 공간상으로 1차 정확도를 가진 HLLC 기법을 적용한 모형이다. 본 연구에서 적용된 가상의 도시지역은 Soares-Frazao와 Zech(2008)에 의해 수행된 수리모형실험에 근거하여 세 가지 case에 대해 구성하였다. 첫 번째 case(Case 1)는 25개의 건물로 구성된 정방형의 도시지역이 흐름에 직각으로 배열되어 있는 경우이며, 두 번째와 세 번째 case는 각각 흐름에 대해 $22.5^{\circ}$(Case 2)와 $45^{\circ}$(Case 3)로 경사진 경우이다. 세 경우에 대해 시간에 따른 홍수파의 변화양상을 수치적으로 분석하였으며, 첫 번째와 두번째 case에 대해 모의된 수위변화결과를 수리모형실험결과와 비교하여 모형의 적용성을 검증하였다. 검증결과 수치모형을 통해 계산된 수위변화는 수리모형실험결과와 비교적 일치하는 결과를 얻었다. 또한 본 연구에서는 도시지역의 조도계수(Manning계수: 0.01,015,$0.025sm^{-1/3}$)와 비구조적 격자시스템을 구성하는 격자수(T1: 19759개 요소, T2: 193859)에 따른 홍수파의 변화양상을 분석하였다.
