Synthesis of Iron Nanopowder from FeCl3 Solution by Chemical Reduction Method for Recycling of Spent Neodymium Magnet (네오디뮴 폐자석 재활용을 위한 화학환원법을 이용한 철 나노 분말 제조)

  • Recycling process of iron should be developed for efficient recovery of neodymium(Nd), rare metal, from acid-leaching solution of neodymium magnet. In this study, $FeCl_3$ solution as iron source was used for synthesis of iron nanoparticle with the condition of various factors, etc, reductant, surfactant. $Na_4O_7P_2$ and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) as surfactants, $NaBH_4$ as reductant, and palladium chloride($PdCl_2$) as a nucleation seed were used. Iron powder was analyzed with instruments of XRD, SEM and PSA for measuring shape and size. Iron nanoparticles were made at the ratio of 1 : 5(Fe (III) : $NaBH_4$) after 30 min of reduction time. Size and shape of iron particles synthesized were round-form and 50 nm ~ 100 nm size. Zeta-potential of iron at the 100 mg/L of $Na_4O_7P_2$ was negative value, which is good for dispersion of metal particle. When $Na_4O_7P_2$(100 mg/L), PVP($FeCl_3$ : PVP = 1 : 4, w/w) and Pd($FeCl_3$ : $PdCl_2$ = 1 : 0.001, w/w) were used, iron nanoparticles which are round-shape, well-dispersed, near 100 nm-sized can be made.

Crystallization and high purification of aluminium chloride hexahydrate from kaolin leaching solution (고령토 침출용액으로부터 고순도 염화알루미늄 결정화 분리)

  • For the separation and purification of aluminium chloride hexahydrate crystals from kaolin leaching solution the effects of crystallization conditions, such as crystallization temperature, concentration of aluminium chloride concentration in the leaching solutin and gas flow rate of HCl into the leaching solution, on purity of the aluminium chloride hexahydrate crystals were investigated. The supersaturation level of aluminium chloride in the leaching solution gave great influence on the purity of the crystals. When supersaturated concentration of the aluminium chloride in the leaching solution was generated in low level, the aluminium chloride hexahydrate crystals were produced with high purity ; that is, the crystals hving a low Fe-ion concentration. The supersaturation level of aluminium chloride in the leaching solution was mainly determined by crystallization temperature, concentrations of aluminium chloride and hydrochloric acid in the solution. However, in spite of changes of the above crystallization coditions, a needle shape morphology of aluminium chloride hexahydrate crystals did not modified. To measure hydrochloric acid concentration in the kaolin leaching solution, we applied the oxalate titration method, which was suggested by shank [9] and it was prove that this method could titrate hydrochloroic acid concentration in multi-component ionic solution such as kaolin leaching solution.

  • This study were carried out sulfation roasting and selective leaching test for the effective recovery of copper component in concentrate obtained by froth floatation of Autrallian low grade copper ore. The optimum conditions of sulfation roasting were temp. $450^{\circ}C$, $Na_2SO_4$ 2 mole ratio and time 1.5 h, and then selective leaching were room temperature and $H_2O$ or 1M $H_2SO_4$ solutions. Leaching efficiency of optimum sulfation product were 90 wt.% of copper, 20 wt.% of iron and 15wt.% of nickel elements. In this results, it was possible to selective decomposition leaching of the copper component under optimum conditions in this research.

  • This review describes the involvement of different microorganisms for the recovery of uranium from the ore. Mainly Acidithiobacillus forrooxidans, Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans are found to be the most widely used bacteria in the bioleaching process of uranium. The bioleaching of uranium generally follows indirect mechanism in which bacteria provide the ferric iron required to oxidize $U^{4+}$. Commercial applications of bioleaching have been incorporated for extracting valuable metals, due to its favorable process economics and reduced environmental problems compared to conventional metal recovery processes such as smelting. At present the uranium is recovered through main bioleaching techniques employed by heap, dump and in situ leaching. Process development has included recognition of the importance of aeration of bioheaps, and improvements in stirred tank reactor design and operation. Concurrently, knowledge of the key microorganisms involved in these processes has advanced, aided by advances in molecular biology to characterize microbial populations.

  • 국내에 자연 방치된 폐광산에 대한 문제가 대두되면서 폐광산 주변지역에 대한 산성광산폐수와 중금속 광산폐기물의 오염실태조사가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 폐광산의 유출수와 광산폐기물에 주변 오염지하수 내의 중금속 As, Cd, Pb, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu에 대하여 무기 응집제의 첨가와 pH의 조절에 의한 제거효율을 .실내 배치실험을 통하여 규명하였다. 본 실험을 통하여 황산알루미늄(Al$_2$(SO$_4$)$_3$ㆍ13~14$H_2O$), 염화 제2철(FeCl$_3$ㆍ6$H_2O$), 황산 제2철(Fe$_2$(SO$_4$)$_3$ㆍ n$H_2O$)을 이용하여 오염수내 중금속을 90%이상 제거할 수 있었으며, 폐광산 침출수나 오염 지하수의 중금속 제거에 0.1 wt%의 응집제 첨가만으로 응집제를 이용한 화학적 처리 방법이 효과적으로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 판단되었다.

Separation of Ni and Fe from $H_2SO_4$ leaching solution of scrapped Fe-Ni alloy (Fe-Ni 합금(合金) 스크랩의 황산(黃酸) 침출액(浸出液)으로부터 Ni와 Fe의 분리(分離))

  • Cementation and solvent extraction processes were studied to separate nickel and iron ions from the $H_2SO_4$ leaching solution with 47 g/L $Fe(Fe^{2+}/Fe^{3+}=1.03),$, 23.5 g/L Ni and 0.90M $H_2SO_4$ which leached from Fe-Ni alloy. Iron powder was used as a reducing agent for the cementation of Ni ion from the leaching solution. The reduction percentage of Ni ion was $17{\sim}20%$ by adding 4 times stoichiometric amount of iron powder at $60{\sim}80$. This may result from the fact that the cementation of Ni ion occurred after the reduction of $Fe^{3+}$ to $Fe^{2+}$ and the neutralization of $H_2SO_4$ with iron powder. The cementation process was proved to be unfeasible for the separation/recovery of Ni ion from the leaching solution including $Fe^{3+}$ as a major component. $Fe^{2+}$ present in the leaching solution was converted to $Fe^{3+}$ for solvent extraction of Fe ion using D2EHPA in kerosene as a extractant. The oxidation of $Fe^{2+}$ to $Fe^{3+}$ was completed by the addition of 1.2 times stoichiometric amount of 35% $H_2SO_4$. 99.6% $Fe^{3+}$ was extracted from the leaching solution (23.5 g/L $Fe^{3+}$) by 4 stages cross-current extraction using 20 vol.% D2EHPA in kerosene. $NiSO_4$ solution with 98.5% purity was recovered from the $H_2SO_4$ leaching solution of scrapped Fe-Ni alloy.

  • EAFD (Electric Arc Furnace Dust) is considered as pernicious pollutant, assigned hazardous waste. Since this dust is a by-product of industry, it contains valuable metals such as Fe, Zn, Ni, Cu which can be turned into resources by recycling process. In this study, hydrometallurgical process was applied to recover Zn from Electric Arc Furnace Dusts. The result showed 95% Zn recovery at 3M $H_2SO_4$, Solids/Liquid ratio 1:2 and aeration of 1.8L/min for 2hr. However there was 80% Zn recovery at lower $H_2SO_4$ concentration apply for pilot scale plant.

  • In waste lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, the cathode material contains approximately 4% lithium. Recycling the constituent elements of batteries is important for resource circulation and for mitigating the environmental pollution. Li contained in the waste LFP cathode powder was selectively leached using persulfate-based oxidizing agents, such as sodium persulfate, potassium persulfate, and ammonium persulfate. Leaching efficiency and waste LFP powder properties were compared and analyzed. Pulp density was used as a variable during leaching, which was performed for 3 h under each condition. The leaching efficiency was calculated using the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis of the leachate. All types of persulfate-based oxidizing agents used in this study showed a Li leaching efficiency over 92%. In particular, when leaching was performed using (NH4)2S2O8, the highest Li leaching percentage of 93.3% was observed, under the conditions of 50 g/L pulp density and an oxidizing agent concentration of 1.1 molar ratio.
