Taoism in Ancient China from the Perspective of T'ien(天) (중국고대 천관에서 본 도가의 사상)

  • This study evaluates the flow of Taoism in the change of knowledge that accompany the passage of time beyond school-centered studies. In particular, it is to understand the Tao(道) and T'ien(天) of "Lao $Tz{\check{u}}$" and "Chuang $Tz{\check{u}}$" in the thought of T'ien at the time. The thought of T'ien at that time was based on the T'ien in "Mencius". There are two meanings of T'ien in "Mencius", and also of T'ien in "Lao $Tz{\check{u}}$" and "Chuang $Tz{\check{u}}$". This study examins that idea that the T'ien in "Lao $Tz{\check{u}}$" and "Chuang $Tz{\check{u}}$" were influenced by the thought of T'ien in "Mencius". It also reveals the T'ien theory of Wang Ch'ung(王充) which is influenced by Taoism. Also, in the course of examining the relation of T'ien theory of Wang Ch'ung with T'ien theories of "Lao $Tz{\check{u}}$" and "Chuang $Tz{\check{u}}$", it is more embodied that T'ien theories of "Lao $Tz{\check{u}}$" and "Chuang $Tz{\check{u}}$" were affected by the previous T'ien theories. Furthermore, the meanings of Tao in "Lao $Tz{\check{u}}$" and "Chuang $Tz{\check{u}}$" are revealed.

  • While this paper will be of interest to Convergence of Knowledge and Border Thinking, one of my main concerns has been to open the world of mind. Because the convergence of knowledge and border thinking are closely related to the problems of mind. It should be clear from this procedure that the scope of this study is limited. It is not intended to be a definitive account of all problems of mind, bur rather a clear and thorough account of that segment of mind that pertains to an analysis of convergence of knowledge and border thinking. This claim, with their supporting arguments, will be discussed as follow; 1. What our knowledge has been for? 2. Knowledge and convergence of knowledge 3. How is the convergence of knowledge made up? 1) meeting at border 2) mind as a border 3) converging at mind.

The study on the view of death in the Buddhism for well dying's culture formation (웰다잉(well dying) 문화 형성을 위한 불교의 죽음관 연구)

  • Recently, the social concerns on well dying come to the fore as important discourse on dignity of human death, which detonation by the problem of euthanasia. Well dying means 'good death' the meaning of a word, and it means 'prepared death', 'decented death' 'beautiful death' by extention of sematic context like this as a general rule. In this paper the writter have considered that how the view of Buddhism's death contribute to the discourse on well dying, which regarding death as the starting point, death conquest as the finishing point of the theory. The Buddhism's discourse on the attitude interpretation conquest process of death contributed to formation of abundant discourse on well dying, especially the view of Buddhism is able to contribute to conquest of death anxiety and death education, that death conquest interpret to spiritual psychological phenomenon not physical physiological eternal life (or immortality) and conquer death through enlightenment on reality of things by spiritual psychological change.

Meritocracy and Democracy: in the Context of Confucian Modernity (메리토크라시와 민주주의: 유교적 근대성의 맥락에서)

  • This article explore the relation between meritocracy and democracy in the context of South-Korea's confucian modernity. It starts with the confirmation that South-Korea's confucian-meritocratic tradition has positive influence on democracy, in similar way as in the western countries where meritocracy was as a basis for democracy evaluated. But meritocracy has not always the positive implication for democracy. This article shows that meritocracy is in its essence 'an ideology of the betrayal' which destroy the basis of democracy through producing and justifying extreme socio-economic inequalities between citizens. But the long confucian-meritocratic tradition of East Asia makes meritocracy ideology attractive for the people, so even the temptation of the 'political meritocracy' is strong, as we see in Singapore and China. This article argues that the political meritocracy cannot be the alternative of democracy, seeks the different way to overcome the crisis of democracy than meritocracy indicate. Finally, it discusses shortly which implications this sort of relation between meritocracy and democracy for the future of South-Korean democracy can have.

The Educational Meaning expressed in Mu-wi of Lao-tzu and κεvoς of Jesus (노자의 무위(無爲)와 예수의 케노스(κεvoς)에서 본 교육적 함의 - 『도덕경』과 「빌립보서」를 중심으로 -)

  • Education system of Korea faced to enterance examination of universities in modern capitalism society. Education authority is confused by this, and then schools lost their goal for education. Mu-Wi in "Tao Te Ching" of Lao-tzu in one of Chinese old philosophers and ${\kappa}{\varepsilon}vo{\varsigma}$ of "Philippians" 2:6-11 give important meanings to modern people. Mu-Wi is anti-meaning of Jak-Wi or In-Wi, and means doing with natural state. This means that politicians do follow natural rule returing Jak-Wi or In-Wi to Mu-Wi in society with Jak-Wi or In-Wi. In addition, the meaning of ${\kappa}{\varepsilon}vo{\varsigma}$ is to love and serve people for calling of mankind from God through Jesus who gave himself to death in the society with hate and Jealous. It is great lesson of the saint and gives valuable and important meaning in education reality of Korea.

  • Modern and contemporary humanities and social sciences supported the freedom and abundance of people. Today, however, freedom and abundance do not support human dignity, and are not sustainable. Therefore, we must reflect again on the direction of today's life and civilization. As part of this project, this essay analyzes the modern and contemporary humanities and social sciences and examines the meaning of Korean traditional thoughts. The lines presented to us by Korean traditional thought can be summed up 'the Three Elements of the Universe(Heaven, Earth and Man)' and 'Perfect Harmony between the Soul and the Body' and 'true humanitarianism.' These lines can be a starting point to overcome the problems posed by the lines of freedom and abundance in two contexts : First, while the lines of freedom and abundance today were biased toward the elements of the Earth or the Body, the traditional Korean thoughts have been both elements of the Heaven and the Soul since the beginning, which can therefore serve as a true humanitarian. Second, the true humanitarian line is as much sustainable as it criticizes the uncontrolled freedom and abundance, and seeks the right moderation to become a man of dignity.

Standard Codes of the Study of Chunchu during Chosun Dynasty (1): through Park Sechae's Chunchubopyeon Gangnyung (조선조 『춘추』 공부의 표준 강령(1) - 박세채의 『춘추보편(春秋補編)』 「강령(綱領)」을 중심으로 -)

  • This paper examines the standard codes (Gangnyung: 綱領), basis of the study of Chunchu in Chunchuhak tradition during Chosun dynasty, through Park Sechae's Chunchubopyeon. The author aims to uncover the common awareness of, or an agreed view of, Chunchu among scholars of Chosun dynasty. Since Chunchubopyeon represents the Neo-Confucian understanding of Chunchu, it can be argued that the Gangnyung section of this book contained the standard codes which formed the basis of Chunchu studies. Of five key themes in Gangnyung, this paper addresses two in detail, and . The first argues that Chunchu is the grand principle of governing the world; a living law which drives the reality. The second theme, through a detailed recording of Chunchu, examines the grand principle of Chunchu. When studies after the present paper address the remaining themes in Gangnyung, it is expected that an access to the general characteristics or features of Chunchuhak during Chosun dynasty will be granted.

컴퓨터를 통한 창의력 수학 프로그램 개발

  • 본 연구에서는 LOGO를 개발한 Papert의 철학에 따라 아동이 자유롭게 학습할 수 있는 Microworld를 통해 수학을 새로운 관점에서 접근하고, 아동에 맞게 수학을 재구성하여 제공한다는 적극적인 교육적 배려에서 정규교육과정(교실), 특기적성, 자기 주도 학습 등 다양한 학습 환경에 가능한 컴퓨터 창의력수학 프로그램을 개발하고자 한다. 많은 관심에 비해 창의력 교육이 구체적으로 학습과 관련되어 있지 않고, 체계적인 교육과정을 따라 이루어지지 않고 있으며, 컴퓨터 교육 역시 한글 워드나 Excel과 같은 기능 위주의 학습으로 컴퓨터 학습에서 기대하는 알고리즘 학습은 소홀히 다루는 문제점이 있다. 이러한 창의력 교육과 컴퓨터 교육에 대한 문제점에 주목하여 학교 교과과정과 연계된 컴퓨터 알고리즘 학습과 수학 학습이 함께 가능한 컴퓨터를 통한 수학적 창의력 향상 프로그램을 개발하고자 한다. 이에 학교 교과과정에 연계하여 컴퓨터 알고리즘 학습과 수학적 창의력 향상에 적합한 매체로 LOGO 마이크로월드를 택하고, 이를 이용한 컴퓨터 창의력 수학 프로그램이 가지는 특징을 살펴본다. 이렇게 개발된 프로그램은 검증을 위해 봄학기 초등학교에서 실험연구가 계획되어 있다.

버지스-로젠 딜레마와 유명론

  • 최근 가장 영향력 있는 수학적 실재론과 관련된 논변은 버지스와 로젠의 딜레마이다. 일종의 반-유명론적 논증인 버지스-로젠 딜레마는 유명론자들이 취할 수 있는 제한된 선택지를 제시한 후 그 어느 선택지도 적절하지 못함을 주장하는 것이다. 논자 역시 버지스-로젠 딜레마가 성립한다면 유명론이 가망 없는 전략임에 동의한다. 그러나 논자는 그들의 논의가 유명론 대 실재론이라는 대립구도 대신, 유명론 대 수학 및 과학이라는 잘못된 대립구도를 전제하고 있음을 본 논문을 통해 밝히고자 한다. 간략히 말해, 논자는 버지스-로젠 딜레마는 수학자 및 과학자들의 주장이 글자 그대로 실재론을 함의함을 전제하는데, 이것은 실제 수학 및 과학 활동과 일치하지 않을뿐더러, 이를 입증하기 위해서는 철학적 가정이 개입해야 함을 밝히고, 그 과정에서 유명론의 가능성을 모색하고자 한다. 이러한 논자의 전략은 유명론 진영 안의 특정한 입장을 지지하는 것은 아니다. 버지스-로젠 딜레마는 특정한 유명론의 문제라기보다는 유명론 자체의 가능성과 관련된 것이기 때문이다.

Philosophical Background of East Asian Mathematics and Its Educational Implication with a Focus on GyeSaJeon (동아시아 수학의 철학적 배경과 교육적 함의: 계사전을 중심으로)

  • This paper briefly examines the Book of Changes that is the philosophical background of East Asian ancient mathematics and its collection of complementary(ShíYì), and then examines the structure and contents of GyeSaJeon, which explains the basic principles of Book of Changes as one of ShíYì. GyesaJeon reveals the unique East Asian thought of dealing with numbers in the process of explaining the formation of Eight-Gwae(Bagua) and Sixty-four-Gwae based on Yin-Yang theory. It understands numbers in terms of symbols, not quantitative, and use them to represent characteristics or hierarchy of certain classes, and to explain certain principles. Based on this, the implications of using East Asian mathematics history in the mathematics classroom are discussed.
